Boyfriend angry at me....aibu?

Came away for a few nights.
Checked into hotel and dropped bags off.
Came back tonight and the room was so noisy.
Generator right outside our room and the air con unit in room even turned off was so so noisy.
So I went to reception and asked to change rooms
We are now in a room that's quiet (thank god)
He says I should have just put toilet roll in my ears rather than having us packing our stuff up at 10pm at night
So he's sulking
We paid over £450 for two nights so not cheap
Was aibu?

Why should you pay for a sub standard room! Of course you did the right thing!

namechange27352 · 29/11/2022 22:21

Reminds me of Monica

Houseplantmad · 29/11/2022 22:21

No YANBU. I’d be packing him off somewhere else as well as packing to move rooms. Miserable git.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 29/11/2022 22:22

Ugh is he feeling emasculated because he thinks he should have sorted it?

poefaced · 29/11/2022 22:23

What a twat. Instead of being annoyed at the hotel for giving you a dud room, he has chosen to take it out on you.

For £225 pn I would expect luxury, and a noisy room is not luxury.

Rainingnow · 29/11/2022 22:25

What a prat.

OrigamiOwls · 29/11/2022 22:25

YANBU

Keyansier · 29/11/2022 22:25

You both sound quite immature, IMO. I'm sure it wasn't "so so noisy" that you couldn't sleep even with it switched off. I'm sure all the other people manage to sleep in the room fine or surely the hotel would have done something about it by now. He was being ridiculous for suggesting you stuff toilet paper into your ears.

You both sound about 6 years old tbh.

OrigamiOwls · 29/11/2022 22:26

At £225 a night I wouldn't be entertaining the idea of putting toilet roll in my ears.

Jellybean23 · 29/11/2022 22:27

BF sounds pretty spineless to accept a substandard room. And he's angry with you for speaking up? He's a worm, take note of this, it doesn't bode well.

seatsbrats · 29/11/2022 22:29

@Keyansier I can tell you the hotel and room number if you like ...then you can pay over £200 to listen to it

whiteroseredrose · 29/11/2022 22:32

YANBU. If it's not right get it sorted.

The people in the hotel wouldn't care. Why does your BF?

Why does the Op sound 6 years old for asking for and getting a different room 🙄

TrentCrimm · 29/11/2022 22:39

He sounds like a right wet fart.

WeAreTheHeroes · 29/11/2022 22:40

What's wrong with being assertive when you've been allocated a crap room? What kind of martyr would put up with it? Nothing childish about asking to be moved somewhere quieter.

Hernameisdeborah · 29/11/2022 22:41

You definitely were not unreasonable!

chevvyroo · 29/11/2022 22:44

Good for you. At that price why be fobbed off? As long as you went about it in a polite way. Your BF sounds a bit spineless, as mine can also be.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 29/11/2022 22:44

Since when did anyone put toilet paper in their ears?

Mabelface · 29/11/2022 22:59

Me, when I was 12 and ran out of cotton wool for ear drops. Had it removed at the hospital. 😊

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/11/2022 23:00

No, of course you weren’t unreasonable.

SnarkyBag · 29/11/2022 23:10

He’s a knob and it’s perfectly reasonable to expect to be comfortable in a hotel room you e paid a lot of money for including not being disturbed by constant noise.

You’ve had some weird replies on this thread maybe your boyfriend can date one of them instead!

I'd say being annoyed that the World Cup has meant less Coca Cola truck ads on TV is more child-like behaviour than OP wanting a decent night's sleep in an expensive hotel.

Newestname002 · 29/11/2022 23:15

You were absolutely not being unreasonable. I would have asked to change rooms in these circumstances and most certainly at this price. Your boyfriend is being wet as well as a sulker - not a great combination. 🌹

How is it immature to expect a quiet room when you stay in a hotel? I imagine they rely on mugs like you to suffer in silence
