Came away for a few nights.
Checked into hotel and dropped bags off.
Came back tonight and the room was so noisy.
Generator right outside our room and the air con unit in room even turned off was so so noisy.
So I went to reception and asked to change rooms
We are now in a room that's quiet (thank god)
He says I should have just put toilet roll in my ears rather than having us packing our stuff up at 10pm at night
So he's sulking
We paid over £450 for two nights so not cheap
Was aibu?

What’s his problem? He should be thanking you no?

CherrySocks · 29/11/2022 23:22

But did you just drop your bags off or had you unpacked all your stuff?

Enjoy your break!

Don't think bf is a martyr or a mug, but clearly comes from a less privileged background/ not much experience in that sort of a place. A bit of grace on both sides should bring back the peace.

YANBU. Your boyfriend sounds like he gets embarrassed easily and will accept anything which is annoying

You both sound quite immature, IMO. I'm sure it wasn't "so so noisy" that you couldn't sleep even with it switched off. I'm sure all the other people manage to sleep in the room fine or surely the hotel would have done something about it by now. He was being ridiculous for suggesting you stuff toilet paper into your ears.

You both sound about 6 years old tbh.

That's a lot of you being sure about a situation you weren't involved in....it's you that sounds like a child, not OP.

MzHz · 29/11/2022 23:25

You should have left him in the noisy room @seatsbrats

KatherineJaneway · 29/11/2022 23:25

YANBU. He sounds like a wimp.

Unless you had to move the furniture along with your luggage, your BF is being a twat. Far better to have a few minutes of upheaval than two disturbed nights.

allboysherebutme · 29/11/2022 23:30

You are not unreasonable. X

@Keyansier I can tell you the hotel and room number if you like ...then you can pay over £200 to listen to it

😂

I’d do the exact same thing tbh. I have trouble sleeping at the best of times, but in a strange bed, with noises banging on and people slamming doors etc I’d be stuffed, even with ear plugs (or loo roll!) in.

I’ve often moved rooms or tables in a Restaurant etc. if I’m paying my hard earned cash for a treat I want to actually enjoy it.

Your BF is being a prick. My ex would have happily arranged a room change (and once even a hotel change!) to make me happy.
