To keep the refund? Amazon

TheOrigRights · 29/11/2022 20:58

Amazon have refunded 4 items I ordered nearly 4 weeks ago, received and have been using.
I can find no way to report this, either via email, via the web, via chat (god I hate those chatbots), via phone (it asked me to punch in a 3 digit code, but then hung up).
Since I cannot find a way to speak to a person or contact them to inform them of their mistake, shall I just keep the £. It's just over £50.

I don't feel particularly inclined to go round in loops of 'click here to contact us'.

Im pretty much always in camp "keep it" in these kind of situations, especially with a corporate giant like Amazon. But I wouldn't spend it for a while incase they take it back out your account, it could just be a glitch. Unless you've received some sort of refund email as confirmation?

I've got an email and have checked my account on amazon where they appear under Transactions.

I would 100% keep it in that case (but Id remain paranoid for a week or two lol). Amazon can more than absorb the cost and the onus should not be on you to spend your time and effort to notify them of their error.

A few yeas ago, I was expecting an Amazon order which I needed for an upcoming trip. Several days after the supposed arrival date, there was no sign of it, so I contacted Amazon to cancel it as it was of no use to me if I couldn't get it before my trip. They promptly refunded my account, and then a few days later, the order arrived!

I kept it.

SilentAlarm · 29/11/2022 21:14

I would probably keep quiet, but if you really want to flag it to them it’s really easy to chat to someone through their app. It starts as the but but really quick and simple to talk to an actual agent in my experience.

FoodieToo · 29/11/2022 21:19

Yes it's easy to get past the Chat Bot!!

ditalini · 29/11/2022 21:29

Amazon sent me a box of plasters last year instead of a Roku player.

They point blank refused to refund me stating that the package was correct when it left them (and strongly implying I was at it).

This year I bought a Google Pixel phone that turned out to have been tampered with in some way (couldn't activate Google Pay because some of the settings had been changed). They did eventually replace but it took hours of calls/chat sessions to both Amazon and Google to resolve.

Their customer service used to be good and now not so much* so I wouldn't get involved with them if I could avoid it - keep the refund.

*I accept that they must lose a huge amount to petty scams, but still...

If your refund was under thirty quid we can call it payment for the bloody Roku I never got 🙄

Zampa · 29/11/2022 21:31

I've owned up to mistakes by Amazon, in my favour, in the past. They've always said keep the items or the refund.

By all means own up but I reckon they'll just say don't worry about it.

TheOrigRights · 29/11/2022 21:31

Anyway, I found a number : 0800 4961081 and have talked to someone.
He can't find the reason and the team who he could ask for more details work regular office hours.
He said to call back tomorrow or just keep it.

My concern is that they'll start refunding everything I've bought from Amazon in the past 20 years!

I might just regard it as my Christmas bonus.

OutofControl3 · 29/11/2022 21:33

Just keep it its there mistake, they can't exactly charge u again as then it would be a new purchase and you would receive the items again. Oh well its what they get for relying on computers and robots!

ajsbeh · 29/11/2022 21:34

If you want to get past that chat I just type in 'speak to a human' and it usually connects you to someone

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 29/11/2022 21:34

Yes, there is only so much effort I'd be prepared to go go to correct their mess up...you have tried hard enough.

underneaththeash · 29/11/2022 21:34

I’ve give some to charity. Having been in a similar situation before, I’m not even sure they have a facility for unrefunding a refund.

GreenLunchBox · 29/11/2022 21:35

They once sent me the wrong vacuum cleaner and I had to take it to a post office to return it and pay postage (very strange because they usually give you a postage label to return things free of charge).

They initially said they'd reimburse postage to a max of £4.95. I was fuming because a) it was there mistake b) it cost about a tenner to return it. I phoned customer services and eventually got the full postage reimbursed, but WTF?

PenguinTattoo · 29/11/2022 21:36

They are refusing to do anything about an electrical item they sent me that set itself on fire!!! They have told me to contact the manufacturer, claim back via my bank or prove it was faulty when they sent it (erm, how!?)
So please keep the £ and I can consider it karma at work.

poefaced · 29/11/2022 21:37

Good on you for trying, OP!

I've had this with Debenhams recently, they have refunded me for an item I returned. The thought of Debenhams customer service leaves me cold but then I realised I've sometimes returned stuff and not seen the refund go through (and have been too lazy to chase) so it's probably evened out over time.

poefaced · 29/11/2022 21:37

Sorry, I meant to say, they refunded me for an item I didn't return.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 29/11/2022 21:42

I ordered a piece of Kitchen equipment from Amazon. Not really expensive, about £15, and they sent two in the same box. I havye up trying to contact them and just kept them both.

RomeoMcFlourish · 29/11/2022 21:42

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago for items that I ordered for Halloween, ended up getting an unexpected refund of £26 for items that I had received and used. I didn’t chase it up though - it’s their mistake and I’m not wasting my time trying to correct it for them!

TheOrigRights · 29/11/2022 21:43

ajsbeh · 29/11/2022 21:34

I did get beyond the bot and to the option of 'call me', but when they called, it asked me to enter the 3 digits it read out (real person check) but didn't detect me pressing the buttons.

Same thing happened to me they randomly refunded me for an item that I definitely didn't return was only £6.50 so just left it but I was a bit Hmm

Roundandnour · 29/11/2022 21:54

They do have a weird price change policy, although most of the time you have to put in the request.

Sometimes though the system automatically does this and you get the difference in what you paid and the lowest it’s sold on the site.

Since customers have been able to sign sometimes because the system doesn’t get a signature it thinks the item didn’t reach you so a refund is issued.

Trying to return an item that has been duplicated or refunded the system cannot deal with it.

if the wrong item comes look at the details on the box label including the weight. If it should be box sizes and comes in one of those cardboard letter things again give them the details.

I don’t work for them I’ve just had refunds, wrong and extra items due to the above glitches.

If you buy high end products from them hit the record button before you start opening. Also do this if the package doesn’t feel right.

I’ve also done videos to show them shocking waste packaging.
