Was expecting a parcel today, 24 hour tracked, in all day only to discover a card through the door. I didn’t hear the knock even the dog didn’t. Went online to redirect only to find ‘sorry something went wrong’. Called them and the earliest is December 5th. This is such rubbish and sick to death of the tap and scarper approach with them.

Bravo. Well said.
The posties have been offered a very small pay rise on the condition that they agree to work on Sundays and a bunch of other demands.
RM says it can't afford to pay a reasonable wage. Meanwhile it has two CEOs earning £2m per annum and paid £400m to shareholders last year.

I don't dictate what they get paid. Don't post cards through without knocking. That's all I ask

I work for one of the utilities many times I’ve knocked and customer swears blind I didn’t

also the general public are delightful many a time knock hard on the door to be greeted by aggressive abuse for knocking hard

Does OP genuinely think the postie would deliberately prefer to carry your parcel round for the rest of the day then off load it at the first opportunity

you didn’t hear the door

Twice this week no one knocked or rang my bell yet there was a card pushed silently through. Twice. Twats

I totally agree - I had the same - we have a loud doorbell and a big dog - sat in the lounge reading a book last Monday morning, walked by the front door on the way to the kitchen and there was a “we missed you” card through the letterbox… they didn’t knock and even the camera doorbell showed they didn’t knock!

My gosh that’s so advanced, what was he reading, 101 Dalmatians?

They are constantly harassed by management to go faster, faster, faster.
It doesn't excuse them not ringing your bell but some of them are terrified of finishing their rounds late.
The strike is about pay and working conditions — including the overload of work that leads to this poor service.

Zippedydoo123 · 29/11/2022 18:27

My vitamins took nearly a month to arrive and they were tracked posting.

Frequency · 29/11/2022 18:32

My pet's monthly flea treatment arrived a week late but I'm guessing that was due to the strikes which I support so I'm fine with that. That is another "signed for" package that just gets pushed through the letterbox.

With itch? Mine gets pushed through too. Though I am pleased about that

Frequency · 29/11/2022 18:40

Nexgaurd from Viovet. They have a prescription from the vet for 12 months which I upload to Viovet who then posts it monthly. I do like that they just push it through without bothering me and it also means if I am out or in a meeting, I don't have to go to the local delivery office to collect it but one of my cats is feral and eats the post so I have to make sure I grab it quick before she starts eating the dog's chewable treatments. The cats get Nexgaurd spot on.

I’m certainly not deaf and neither is the lab…..so do one!

What is it with mumsnetters and slagging off deaf people. I am deaf and manage to answer my door just fine!

IzzyGee · 29/11/2022 18:53

Picky Eaters
You might be interested to know that I have never been hassled to go faster to get my duty done within time. My workplace is a shambles. Our office has been designed to operate so that man hours = postal traffic on the quietest 10% of days. The other 90% we have more than can be done within our shift. So we don’t do all streets every day. This is now normal. I can see that some of my colleagues have responded to this situation by taking unauthorised short cuts.

But I ain’t apologising for wanting customers to just answer the fucking the door. They’ll hang out an upstairs window, or I can see the telly flickering in the front room, I can hear them screaming at the dog to shut up, or they fanny about with their Ring doorbell, they’re on a screen, they’ve got headphones on, I can see them moving behind the frosted glass but the fuckers just will not answer the door.

(As an aside I am sympathetic to people wfh on calls & meetings etc. I am so glad I work outdoors, no meetings and the only screen I deal with is that bloody touchscreen PDA that can’t tell the difference between a raindrop and a finger.)

Are any of you even aware or CARE about the strikes with royal mail, and the fact that they aren't being paid anywhere near enough? Honestly I'd put a fucking card through the door every single time with the way folks are carrying on here.

They bring you so much and all you do is moan.

Oh no, you had to make a phone call, oh no, it was inconvenient.

You know what's inconvenient? Not being paid enough and treated with respect.

Shut up. Fucking hell.

Well I mean if they're aren't doing their job properly then what's the issue with people complaining. I don't use royal mail anymore and i try to avoid buying anything from companies that use them; all of my bills etc are done via email so the only thing they deliver to us is useless junk mail. The reason is that they used to just deliver the card when we'd been home- i had seen them once just walk up with it as I was arriving home, they said they hadn't loaded the parcel so had to pop the card through, doesn't make sense. I do support people fighting for better conditions and pay, but I don't think that means people should be fine with crap service. Perhaps this is the beginning of the end for them.

BCBird · 29/11/2022 19:00

I experienced frustration the other day. Was expecting a parcel, specified safe place in reply to e msil saying they had my parcel,on their only to then receive an e mail saying no one in and that they could not deliver. I had to drive to pick it up. When I mentioned, very politely that I had specified a safe place, the woman, smiled and said, 'they probably didn't tell the postie ' 🙈

Morlatheancientone · 29/11/2022 19:03

I'm a postie. It's ridiculous to think we don't want to deliver your parcels, why would we want to carry them about and then just take them back to the van and back to the sorting office to sort out! We knock, we ring the bell and we can't keep trying and standing about because you can't hear. If you're expecting a parcel listen out for it maybe, track it and you'll see when it's out for delivery and if re delivery is to long for you can always come down and pick it up yourself or next time . 🙄

Or alternatively more people could use more reliable delivery services.

I did - you used being deaf as an insult. HTH.

OhmygodDont · 29/11/2022 19:08

Don’t post a sorry we missed you card when you don’t even have my parcel it’s that’s simple.

my main postie is great but when it’s not him I’ve caught many jumping over the boundary wall when not even delivering to my house so not have to walk back down the other drive to save mere seconds. Cheeky. Posting a sorry we missed you. No parcel. As per ring door bell footage.

I’d rather give Amazon my money than get any parcel bigger than my letter box via Royal Mail.

No idea. Maybe ask my postie why he does it. Maybe he doesn't have them?

I can't pick things up I'm disabled and don't drive.

NippyWoowoo · 29/11/2022 19:18

She didn’t. ‘Do one’ was addressed at the poster making incorrect assumptions based on clearly not reading the OP.

I don’t know what HTH means perhaps you can enlighten me. I know more than most people what deaf means or probably in your case hearing deficient or woke words to that effect, my long term partner was profoundly deaf and he he wouldn’t have it it any other terms. This was a thread about the Royal Mail for gods sake , lighten up

This has happened to me several times, the top two I remember is one said my driveway was obstructed.. I was literally looking out the window the minute after I heard them pop the note in there was nothing outside.. Hermes also delivered 10 mins beforehand.
The other one didn't bring the parcel with them but still wrote sorry we missed you, well after talking to them at the door I was on the phone and that was sorted out sharpish with a redelivery same day. I'd paid extra for next day delivery so was livid.

slowquickstep · 29/11/2022 19:37

Our Postie is bloody fantastic

Jaybird43 · 29/11/2022 19:46

@stopringingme he was reading the last Hairy Paw-ter book!

peanutbuttertoasty · 29/11/2022 20:06

My card didn't even make it through the letterbox today, just dumped on the doorstep. Nothing written on it either

Killingmytime · 29/11/2022 20:25

Yes, few times I’ve seen them simply a
shove the card through the door without even ringing the door!
then there’s the time the tracking said my item had been delivered and I’d signed for it when it wasn’t my signature, then when it apparently was on top of my shed, Hmm(complained) the items appeared to my door two days later magically….
