Royal Mail!!

Was expecting a parcel today, 24 hour tracked, in all day only to discover a card through the door. I didn’t hear the knock even the dog didn’t. Went online to redirect only to find ‘sorry something went wrong’. Called them and the earliest is December 5th. This is such rubbish and sick to death of the tap and scarper approach with them.

My previous comment was aimed at IssyZee together with the language, a shining example of Royal Mail! It wouldn’t have been so bad but it was a present for my daughter’s birthday which has now gone to pot

I’m a postie. It is more work to write a card and take the item back to the office. Just answer the door/ get a doorbell/put a sign on the door saying you are deaf please hammer on the door.

The only time posties should be delivering prewritten cards is to buildings with buzzers. (Parcel delivery couldn’t acccess building on day one, writes card for delivery by walking postie on day two.)

Just answer the fucking door.

This is absolutely not true - I used to live in a house (bungalow) where the bog was right next to the front door - one day I heard the post arrive whilst I was on the throne - it included a card to say I was out. I chased after the postie who lied and claimed to have rung the bell - bollocks - the bell was 100% working but he hadn't pressed the fucker.
I don't know why they do it, but100% some do just drop the cards.

SInce I moved the post woman is fantastic and would never do this though.

tigerbearr · 29/11/2022 17:53

The amount of "caught them" putting a card through posts on here. You mean you saw them at your door doing their job?! Lol more effort to write a card and take it back with them than to actually deliver it. If you also didn't hear them putting the card through your letter box then you were obviously too far away to hear them knock too. Our posties are brilliant. If you don't hear your door or aren't in then that's not their problem. They have a job to do, they can't stand at your door all day waiting to see if you answer

Notonthestairs · 29/11/2022 17:54

"You'd be pissed off if the nurses stopped changing catheters because they're underpaid and striking no?"

One of these things could have serious implications and the other is frustrating and inconvenient.
Not really comparable.

My post service is pretty good on the whole. Occasional "sorry we've missed your cards " when we are actually in. It does annoy me but over the course of the year it's relatively infrequent.

I'm generally supportive of our postal staff, but this answer is just plain bloody rude. Perhaps you could just fucking make it clear that you are at the door? If the person AND a dog can't hear you then nobody can. It's attitudes like yours that alienate people from those who genuinely want to serve their communties and be properly rewarded for doing so.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 29/11/2022 17:55

Yanbu, I’ve stopped buying from companies that use RM for delivery. All other couriers give you a time slot.

Is it time for another Royal Mail slag-off thread already? It’s been at least five minutes.

I was about to say the same thing. That's at least 3 in 24 hours now. Simon is working hard, got to earn his £140k bonus somehow I guess.

Did you read the OP? You can't answer a door that there's no knock for.

Are any of you even aware or CARE about the strikes with royal mail, and the fact that they aren't being paid anywhere near enough? Honestly I'd put a fucking card through the door every single time with the way folks are carrying on here.

They bring you so much and all you do is moan.

Oh no, you had to make a phone call, oh no, it was inconvenient.

You know what's inconvenient? Not being paid enough and treated with respect.

Shut up. Fucking hell.

It’s a business not a charity, why would I be happy paying for a service, not getting it and then having to go and collect the parcel that I paid to have delivered to my house. Particularly the very inconvenient opening times of the depo.

“they bring you so much”
Give it a rest 😂

It can have serious implications. My nan has missed a medical appointment for results because of the postal strikes.

I can't get out and about because I am disabled so not delivering things to my house when I am in it massively inconveniences me. Why should it?

My house is small. They don't post the card all the way through the door. My dog doesnt even stir. We have a door Knocker and a bell. They don't ring it. Why do you think people are lying?

superdupernova · 29/11/2022 17:58

I chased my postie down the road after getting a card with my regular mail. She didn't actually have the parcel with her. Same thing happened with another postie a few months later. Luckily I now wfh a few days a week. Our post office only opens from 9-5.30 and I had to avoid using Royal Mail because I was never back in time.

NippyWoowoo · 29/11/2022 17:58

stuntbubbles · 29/11/2022 17:42

Is it time for another Royal Mail slag-off thread already? It’s been at least five minutes.

I find these comments really irritating. People are allowed to complain about an service/ndustry without some jobsworth jumping on to turn them into martyrs.

zen1 · 29/11/2022 17:59

Don’t really have anything bad to say about my posties. One of them even brought me round a parcel where the senders had forgotten to put stamps on it. Sorting office staff where you go to collect parcels are friendly and helpful too. Amazon and Evri on the other hand …

MaggieFS · 29/11/2022 18:00

I'm sure it happens, and as with every job, some people are marvellous and some couldn't care less.

As always, people tend to be more vocal when they have a complaint to make (understandable) so I'm quite happy to try a bad balance the thread by saying our postie is excellent.

MaggieFS · 29/11/2022 18:01

*and balance FFS

Somanysocks · 29/11/2022 18:01

A quick google tells me postal workers are paid pretty well so should be doing their job properly (mine are fine).

user374698 · 29/11/2022 18:04

Mine is fine but I think it is like all delivery services, it depends on the individual delivering it.

Bravo. Well said.
The posties have been offered a very small pay rise on the condition that they agree to work on Sundays and a bunch of other demands.
RM says it can't afford to pay a reasonable wage. Meanwhile it has two CEOs earning £2m per annum and paid £400m to shareholders last year.

Somanysocks · 29/11/2022 18:01

A quick google will tell you an awful lot of lies being peddled another how great the pay and working conditions are of a lot of job roles, including posties. It doesn't mean it's the truth.

rwalker · 29/11/2022 18:06

I work for one of the utilities many times I’ve knocked and customer swears blind I didn’t

also the general public are delightful many a time knock hard on the door to be greeted by aggressive abuse for knocking hard

Does OP genuinely think the postie would deliberately prefer to carry your parcel round for the rest of the day then off load it at the first opportunity

you didn’t hear the door

Frequency · 29/11/2022 18:08

I also try to avoid Royal Mail unless the parcel is small enough to fit through the letterbox. My dog alerts me to people walking down the garden path. I always know when the postie is on his way to the door. We still get "Sorry we missed you" cards.

On the plus side, they are happy to push small "signed for" packages through the door without me having to sign.

I equally hate Amazon delivery too if that is any comfort to the Royal Mail fans. I'm sick of them throwing clearly marked fragile items over my 6ft fence onto a concrete floor.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2022 18:08

I support anyone striking as the way people are treated in the work place is awful and the shareholders do not give a monkeys
Give them a pay rise and treat them a lot better !
Same goes for the train workers as well

It's a job, in a business. They're not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. If I'm paying for a service, I expect to receive that service.

10storeylovesong · 29/11/2022 18:10

I'm sure that this happens, but I just felt compelled to say how wonderful my postie is. Always got a smile on his face. Goes above and beyond every time. We're on name terms now and I've bought him beer every Christmas for the last few years until last year he knocked on my door to ask where my wreath was from and admired it when I told him I'd made it. He told me he'd been looking for one like it for his new front door and was over the moon when I made one for his present. He had an accident earlier this year and couldn't work for a couple of months and our whole estate missed him so much and put a collection together for him. He deserves every penny he gets, and more.
