Christmas decorations

AIBU to think that Christmas has been completely disregarded this year?

I usually put my decs up around mid November and still cannot be bothered. I've also noticed a lot of other people haven't either (perhaps due to cost of living rising etc). Just not feeling it this year Confused

Several of my neighbours have had outside decorations up for a fortnight. Christmas gets earlier every year in my opinion. How can it be kept special if decorations are up for two MONTHS?

Honeybirds87 · 28/11/2022 19:47

I know very few people who put them up that early. I think im early at first weekend in December. Most people I know are excited to do it and definitely will be

BendingSpoons · 28/11/2022 19:48

Decorations have just started going up round here and there are loads of Christmas events next weekend. We the mild weather and the cost of living I suspect some people/places have pushed things back a bit e.g. lights going up later to save money. We put our tree up yesterday as DD was desperate to, but I don't feel Christmassy yet.

neverbeenskiing · 28/11/2022 19:50

We've just put ours up as we're busy the next couple of weekends. Also noticed a few houses nearby had theirs up at the weekend.

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 28/11/2022 19:51

No one around here puts them up until mid December, apart from one house but they also put halloween decorations up in September and Easter Decorations up in around mid Feb -or so it seems.

Flaunch · 28/11/2022 19:52

Thankfully very few people here put their decorations up in November.

TheChosenTwo · 28/11/2022 19:53

bloody love Christmas and the decorations; ours will be going up on 17th December though, not for a while. The pretty lights are lovely when I see them out and about though (again, in December, when I see them now I just shake my head and tut like a grumpy old woman 😂).

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 28/11/2022 19:53

This time of year always reminds me of this.

It's still November! Come back after the weekend and I'll bet loads are up. I'm a mid December decorator myself. I can't be doing with the clutter and it loses its sparkle if it's all up for too long. I haven't bought a single bottle of Baileys or tub of Quality Street yet either.

deflatedbirthday · 28/11/2022 19:55

We put our up this weekend including outside. We've had an awful last month with a very tragic bereavement and it really lifted my spirits to see the DSC so happy putting them up.

I'm usually a first weekend in December person and in all honestly if it weren't for the DSC I probably wouldn't have bothered this year. We still have a funeral to get through and putting them up has kept me occupied.

Maybe when it's nearer to the big day you will start feeling it ,mid November is far to early imo.

pecanpie24 · 28/11/2022 19:56

Maybe I'm an early bloomer! My Mum was an avid Christmas lover and and when we were much younger the decs were usually up beginning of November!
I just find it hassle putting them up, just to take them back down again after a few weeks, so like to get it out the way.
Just not feeling the 'spark' this year

I've seen loads up! Mines been up a while now 😂

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 28/11/2022 19:57

How has Christmas been totally disregarded? Its still a month away (almost)
Maybe if it was was 28th Dec and no one had decs up you'd have a point.

pecanpie24 · 28/11/2022 19:57

@deflatedbirthday So sorry to hear about your loss. Sending lots of virtual hugs x

Where do you live op?? There's quite a few up here already, way earlier than normal. This coming weekend loads, including ours, will go up.
Of course nobody is feeling Christmassy yet, it's not Christmas yet!

pecanpie24 · 28/11/2022 19:59

@TheDuck2018 We live on the south coast in a large new build estate. Not one person has put anything up yet, whereas last year majority had them up by the 2nd week in November

@pecanpie24 thank you! I'm still randomly bursting into tears and the kindness of strangers lately touches me deeply. ❤️

MistyGreenAndBlue · 28/11/2022 20:08

Well this makes a change
We've already had at least a dozen threads bemoaning all the decorations going up in November.

I guess you can't please everyone🤭

CornishGem1975 · 28/11/2022 20:10

It's not even December, chill!

ShesThunderstorms · 28/11/2022 20:11

It's still not even December, give people time! I'm spotting more everyday now!

PriamFarrl · 28/11/2022 20:12

I’ve got mine up, as have quite a few neighbours. It was the first Sunday of advent yesterday so not too early in my opinion.

BasiliskStare · 28/11/2022 20:13

We put our decorations / tree up in mid December - but possibly because DC birthday is end of November. So don't want to confuse the two. I have seen in our street this with tiny tots have already but their tree / decorations / door decorations up .

Scarecrowrowboat · 28/11/2022 20:14

I feel like they're going up earlier than usual round here. Neighbours already have lights up and wreath on door.
