Christmas decorations

AIBU to think that Christmas has been completely disregarded this year?

I usually put my decs up around mid November and still cannot be bothered. I've also noticed a lot of other people haven't either (perhaps due to cost of living rising etc). Just not feeling it this year Confused

Christmas hasn't been disregarded, it's still November! Each to there own but I will never put christmas decorations up before Dec, even the 1st is early for us.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 28/11/2022 20:17

I always wait until Ds’s birthday (late November is CNN out the way before we start on Christmas but is still early. 1st December the earliest anyone should decorate tbh

Lindy2 · 28/11/2022 20:18

Most people haven't got their Christmas decorations up yet because it's still November!

We're planning on putting ours up but not until December, which is what we always do.

I bought some new outdoor lights from Lidl the other week which say they cost 9p to run for the whole of December if on for 6 hours a day.

mondaytosunday · 28/11/2022 20:27

What about all the threads s out decs have gone up in November, which seems to be gaining momentum. I love Christmas but don't put anything up til December which is still what most people do.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 28/11/2022 20:41

lots of decorations up around my area. I’m not putting mine up until the weekend after I’ve deep cleaned the house.

DeadbeatYoda · 28/11/2022 21:05

It's not even December yet.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/11/2022 21:08

It is advent though so 🤷‍♀️

DrCoconut · 28/11/2022 21:13

It's far too early for me. There's still almost a month until Christmas. Mid December is what works for us. And they stay up until 12th night always.

ITS NOVEMBER

Hobbesmanc · 28/11/2022 21:18

Mine went up Sunday. It's usually the first weekend in December but we have house guests coming that weekend so I wanted the house looking nice and don't have time in the week.

Our village had Christmas fair at the weekend and the village lights turned on by the local mayor. So I think people are in the Christmas mood. And John Lewis was heaving last Friday.

@TheDuck2018 We live on the south coast in a large new build estate. Not one person has put anything up yet, whereas last year majority had them up by the 2nd week in November

Could that be more to do with the fact that last year we were still living in covid limbo? A lot of people put the decorations up earlier than normal to cheer themselves up. Start of/mid December is more normal

BogRollBOGOF · 28/11/2022 21:25

checks watch to confirm it's still 28th November

Admittedly yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent, but most will start from 1st December.

I haven't even bought mince pies yet.

OrigamiOwls · 28/11/2022 21:57

Bit early, it's only November

I feel like they're going up earlier than usual round here. Neighbours already have lights up and wreath on door.

Does anywhere else have year round seasonal wreaths? It’s quite the thing here. Christmas ones, Easter, Summer, Autumn.

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/11/2022 23:18

YABU in that it's not even December yet!

Christmas hasn't begun, it's a bit keen to write it off already.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/11/2022 23:18

It’s not even December!

notdaddycool · 28/11/2022 23:27

Can't wait, feels like we need it, but too busy to get decs up, they will be up within a week or so though, maybe not a tree or it will drop all it's needles, that can wait a bit longer!

catsonahottinroof · 28/11/2022 23:33

Maybe it's just going back to how it used to be? I never remember people putting decorations up until well into December until about 10 years ago. I remember being horrified the first time I saw someone's decorations up in November.
Most people's outside decorations are tacky as all hell anyway, so try to see this as a good thing.

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/11/2022 23:46

My advent candles are lit in the front windows.

I was in a roll so put the tree up, ready to be decorated in a couple of weeks. And added the garland to the mantelpiece.

So the basics are done but lots more to come inside and out.

FrangipaniBlue · 29/11/2022 06:31

I think during covid people went a bit bonkers putting their decorations up mega early in a bid to bring a bit of joy to what was a fairly miserable time.

I think this year things have returned to normal with people waiting until end of November/start of December like they used to do.

Because we've gotten used to seeing them up so early this year feels late.
