As above. We put the little bastard away on the evening of December 23rd last year, neither of us can remember where! Any ideas?!

Ooooooh Matron!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Love a good carry on binge at Christmas!

BatshitBanshee · 28/11/2022 20:02

Guessing you're also an Irish mumsnetter OP so... Hot Press? Under the stairs? Go back on your camera roll (if you have Google photos you can put a code in for the date) and look at what you were doing on the 23rd last year. Might trigger something. Or search your WhatsApp for "elf" and see if you messaged any family or friends along the lines of we've sent the bastard elf packing, DH has shoved him in (...). That's what I do!

whereistheelf · 28/11/2022 20:03

@Shunkleisshiny 😂😂😂😂😂

It’s always the freezer for us - lost a pan lid/scissors/mug etc. it’s always in the freezer.

I've just managed to find our main elf but stupid me decided to buy baby elves last year too. My DD has just this evening written to Santa asking him to fix baby elf's nose before he comes back this year as it got damaged.
I has no idea where the little turd elf is.
My contingency is a letter from Santa saying little elf is being mischievous but soft toy gingerbread man has come to help until little elf turns up
Therefore adding another soft toy to the mix that I need to keep track of for next December.
Praying for us all.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 28/11/2022 20:08

Your DC is testing the theory of Elf on the Shelf and has kept it in a cupboard/drawer etc all year to see if it actually disappears and returns at will?

This is hilarious! It's hard enough to keep track of one!! Dh would think this is a great idea... a whole family of them😂😂 and a gingerbread man too!!

@RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway I wondered... he's a bit young for doubts and I've checked all of his drawers🤦🏼‍♀️

Where did you hide the presents last year. When we lost ours, I'd threw him in the hiding place I'd had all the presents.
Failing that, can you remember where elf was on the 23rd, then look in the nearest cupboard right at the back in case you'd forgot to move him so grabbed him and shoved him away before the kids saw him.

mac1974 · 28/11/2022 21:37

The gingerbread man is meant to be one of her presents...I'm going back into the loft tomorrow to have an elf hunt

Shoemadlady · 28/11/2022 22:00

You can have ours, he's a right little wanker 😂

You are doing this all wrong!

Tell the kids the elf is playing hide and seek and make their job to find him.

Hesma · 29/11/2022 06:42

I lost mine last year… my kids got a little letter from her saying they’d had an outbreak of elf flu and she had to help in Santa’s workshop for a few more days…

MrSnowmansCarrotStickNose · 29/11/2022 06:48

This happened us one year too. He was in a box in the wardrobe.

ComfortablyDazed · 29/11/2022 06:53

This happened to us a couple of years ago.

Looked everywhere. Couldn’t find it. Had to buy a new one. 🤬

One afternoon, I’m in the kitchen and I hear blood curdling screams coming from the living room where DD and friend are. Adrenaline coursing through my veins - I assumed one of them had lost a limb or possibly even actually died.

Appear in living room to see two girls white as a sheet, and an elf in the tree.

Friend had a stocking in their hand - apparently they’d felt something in it, reached in, and the elf had flown out of its own volition causing the screams.

DD is now 12 and is still semi-convinced the elf actually flew out, and can’t get her head around what actually happened.

Now we have two, and every time November rolls around, I have a mild panic that I’m not going to be able to locate the mofos and have to buy two more….. 😑

Addicted2Sugar · 29/11/2022 07:05

Top of the wardrobe, right at the back!
We lost an elf years ago when ours were very little had to buy another one. He did turn up again but here's the warning, ensure your new elf is the same. My youngest was looking at a pic of sibling and noticed the elf looked different (hair was a different colour).

MayThe4th · 29/11/2022 07:08

I have no idea why anyone has allowed themselves to be sucked in by this marketing shite

I’d be telling the DC that it’s all a load of bollocks, that the elf was never real, and that they should go into school and tell all their friends. Bet the parents in their class who have been equally sucked in would be ecstatic… 😀

PizzaEater54 · 29/11/2022 07:10

Under the stairs? Elf missed being put away with the decorations last year, so he is under the stairs in an old shoe box.

Flavabobble · 29/11/2022 07:23

If you've bought a set of storage vacuum bags in the last 12 months, it might have ended up in one of those when you've excitedly vacuum-packed every item you can think of.

TheNoodlesIncident · 29/11/2022 07:32

I'd buy another one, hopefully the same, and tell the dc that there was a strike on the transport system the elves use. That's believable, right..? And then do what a marvellous MNer does that I read last year, and make a list of Christmas notes of important stuff to remember including where the elf has been put.

You'll find the first as soon as your replacement one has arrived. My guess is in that cupboard of doom where everything without a proper place gets stashed.

mac1974 · 29/11/2022 07:56

For those why buy a new elf, do the kids not notice? My 8yo is very attached to ours. She would definitely know. She's actually got one she cuddles every night and carries around with her. It's helpful as it jingles so we can hear her coming.

Dahliasrule · 29/11/2022 08:07

No problems here. Elves never left. Twins so distraught that they were going to leave that the elves promised to stay till their birthday. We had strange looks as elves accompanied twins to dinner in Lanzerote!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 29/11/2022 08:17

Poundstretcher (not sure if they’re in NI) have about a trillion elves on the shelves for £4. And a range of elf clothing. It’s times like this I’m glad my kids are adults 😂.
