To be annoyed at smokers when running.

NC'd Penis beaker etc.

No doubt IABU but I'm venting as I'm frustrated.

Full disclosure I can only run in the morning and whilst it's still dark its the safest route where I live.
This past week I've been running and have been caught behind a smoker and having to breath in second hand smoke. For a smoker he is a fast walker and there is no other way to pass as its a single lane if that makes sense. No roads to cross.
So 4 out of 5 runs this week I've had to breath this smoke in and twice have run past whilst hes exhaled a drag. I know have a sore throat/bad chest.
Running is the one thing I know I'm good at and now I'm ill because of this person I have to wait until I'm better or try and find a different route or time to run. Fully prepared to be flamed but why can't smokers just smoke inside their own home and if they don't want their home smelling then quit? I don't want to have to breath it in a third of a mile away.

I did say I was prepared to be told iabu.
As for those who think I'm making my asthma up ill try to explain.
I was 2 months prem and had asthma somehow my mum made it go away and I was fine apart from when I was overweight and would get chest infections. Then I was prescribed inhalers.
Lost the weight, asthma went apart from if I got ill such as bad colds and the one time I got flu.
When I have my inhalers I get a text from gp to fill out some inhaler questionnaire. I answer it honestly and then the gp calls and says I'm not deemed as needing one. Fair enough. I had a flair up and had to order one from an online pharmacy. Obviously I will need to speak to gp and see what can be done for that.

Your mum made your asthma go away? You say you were fine apart from when you were overweight, perhaps your weight had something to do with your breathlessness?

You can’t blame getting a cold or flu on people smoking outside FFS.

allboysherebutme · 27/11/2022 22:51

Well I hate it when I am walking in the park and joggers are puffing and panting and breathing their dirty breath over me too, they should wear masks.
Smoking or not we should not have to suffer people breathing over us, bring back masks in public places. X

This. Stop being ridiculous @Jaboodyrudi and just run past the guy. Don’t believe there’s no way to pass someone. Where are you running that you can’t overtake a pedestrian.

If it’s a canal one side and a wall the other I guess.

Well with that mentality you should probably just stay inside if you don't like others breathing in YOUR oxygen.

I know I'm bu I'm just annoyed and it seemed to all tie together. And now I have to buy an inhaler because its quicker than getting a GPS appointment.

I’m baffled. What, why?

Haileyy · 27/11/2022 22:56

Mumsnet finest.....who made you the owner of the air?

Your mum made it go away…
as a severe asthmatic, this is possibly the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on MN

JellybellyJackanoryonetwothree · 27/11/2022 23:00

This can't be real. I refuse to believe the thread is genuine.

On repeat.

I won't be using mumsnet for advice anytime soon though. Really.... anyone can post!

Member869894 · 27/11/2022 23:00

this is such a non event I just ca't take it seriously. YABU

Bog · 27/11/2022 23:01

It is possible that you can grow out of asthma. I had awful asthma when I was younger. I sometimes get it when I have a cold or virus. Maybe that's what OP means.

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:59

Woah woah I'm not saying I own the outside. It's just annoying trying to do something good and having to inahle fag smoke for a good minute or 2.

Oh would you behave. This person is exhaling for a minute or two? Have you ever exhaled for that long? Now imagine a smoker trying to do it 😂😂What size are they? Are they a literal giant? They must have some massive lungs!! hence you not being able to side step them on the same path.

decayingmatter · 27/11/2022 23:05

If you think that being in the vicinity of one whiff of smoke is dangerous and has made you unwell, just wait until you hear about all of the other hazards in the outside world. What if someone is smoking a spliff whilst you jog past? What if you jog past a car's exhaust pipe? Or near someone who has a cough? Or stand on dog poo? Or get bitten by a midge?

ilovemotorways · 27/11/2022 23:08

Are you OK op? Seems like a very neurotic response to a smoker.

He's not made you ill. I know smokers are hated these days but they're entitled to smoke outside. Like it or not.

RedHelenB · 27/11/2022 23:09

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:44

I've tried but always manage to get caught up behind him. I'm annoyed because he has potentially made me unwell and I have dc to look after.
That run sets me up for the day.

I really doubt that has made you unwell.

whumpthereitis · 27/11/2022 23:12

Yes, it’s the smoker that’s made you unwell. It’s definitely not the myriad viruses currently circulating.

froufroulala · 27/11/2022 23:19

Seen many runners gobbing without a thought of where it would land. Vile.

poppym12 · 27/11/2022 23:21

I think your name change failed.

Maybe running on a treadmill would be better for you?
