To be annoyed at smokers when running.

NC'd Penis beaker etc.

No doubt IABU but I'm venting as I'm frustrated.

Full disclosure I can only run in the morning and whilst it's still dark its the safest route where I live.
This past week I've been running and have been caught behind a smoker and having to breath in second hand smoke. For a smoker he is a fast walker and there is no other way to pass as its a single lane if that makes sense. No roads to cross.
So 4 out of 5 runs this week I've had to breath this smoke in and twice have run past whilst hes exhaled a drag. I know have a sore throat/bad chest.
Running is the one thing I know I'm good at and now I'm ill because of this person I have to wait until I'm better or try and find a different route or time to run. Fully prepared to be flamed but why can't smokers just smoke inside their own home and if they don't want their home smelling then quit? I don't want to have to breath it in a third of a mile away.

Living with smokers who smoke inside may makeyou ill. Briefly passing one on the street won't, though it maybe uncomfortable especiallyfor babies or if you have an underlying condition.

ThierryEnnui · 27/11/2022 21:53

You haven’t become unwell from a couple of breaths of second hand smoke.

this sounds like a deliberate smoker bashing thread tbh, YABU and you sound bored.

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:53

I have asthma but not enough to be deemed to have on repeat prescription if that makes sense. I have some inhalers from a previous bout but they are running low.

I get asthma when I get ill

LMAO. Asthma doesn’t work like that. Nor do germs. Nice try.

Gymandcakes · 27/11/2022 21:53

omg this can’t be real?! Just over take him? Surely a walking smoker can’t be faster than a runner.

honestly hilarious

I vote troll

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:54

When im on my 5th mile I can be slower haha

IceReckon · 27/11/2022 21:55

If you have asthma you should always have an inhaler with you. Asthma attacks can happen without prior warning even if it's been well controlled for a while, especially if running in cold air in an isolated area that should be something you always carry.

Aside from that, try a more positive attitude. This anger is likely making you feel worse in general, it's not helpful to anyone's mental health to constantly look for things to blame and resent.
Also, far more likely than the smoke being the cause, you should probably get a covid test. Sore throat and asthma flare up was my symptoms with covid 2 weeks ago.

Bard6817 · 27/11/2022 21:55

Is this a serious post?

Im a nightmare of an anti smoker (lost my mum to C) can’t stand vapers either (it affects me) and i honestly can’t believe you posted this as a genuine post!!

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:56

It's the smell more so. I can smell it when he's further away and it's stronger as I'm approaching. Not a troll. Again was fully prepared to be told I'm an arse. Just frustrating is all. Running keeps me sane haha.

WaddleAway · 27/11/2022 21:56

Breathing in a few puffs of second hand smoke doesn’t give you a respiratory virus. You’re being absolutely ridiculous. Leave 5 minutes earlier and you won’t get stuck behind him.
I say this as someone who really hates the smell of cigarette smoke and being near smokes in general. But I know that I don’t own the ‘outside’.

Fairislefandango · 27/11/2022 21:57

Oh fgs. I'm as anti-smoking as the next person, but honestly this is ridiculous. Someone who doesn't even have asthma enough to require an inhaler doesn't get 'sick' from running past a smoker!

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:57

Thank you I'm frustrated too as I'm soooo close to losing all my pregnancy weight and wanted to have been done so I could relax for Christmas.

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 21:59

Woah woah I'm not saying I own the outside. It's just annoying trying to do something good and having to inahle fag smoke for a good minute or 2.

You are funny op. You are not ill from being behind a smoker for a few seconds a couple of times. Seriously, get a grip.

You'll live.
Sounds like you have a lot of frustration around feeling poorly and unable to run for various reasons and picked the easiest (and most unlikely) target.

TellMeWhere · 27/11/2022 22:00

He hasn't made you ill. Unless you're running down a narrow alley I don't see how you can't pass him. If necessary, speed up for 5 paces and you'll be in front.

CourtneeLuv · 27/11/2022 22:01

How is this path only the width of one person? What if someone comes the other way?

Eranzer · 27/11/2022 22:02

😂😂😂😂

gamerchick · 27/11/2022 21:47

Being behind a smoker outside has not made you unwell with a sore throat OP. A lurgy has made you unwell with a sore throat.

This, how on earth do you get through life OP 🤦‍♀️

Cwcwbird · 27/11/2022 22:03

I don't think running is keeping you as sane as you think it is. If this is even real.

GooglyEyeballs · 27/11/2022 22:04

I definitely understand you OP! I know we are BU but it's so so rank breathing in second hand smoke while you're trying to run.

thenightsky · 27/11/2022 22:04

A couple of breaths that include a bit of ciggie smoke will NOT make you ill to the point of having to buy inhalers. Get a fucking grip!

Jaboodyrudi · 27/11/2022 22:05

I did say I was prepared to be told iabu.
As for those who think I'm making my asthma up ill try to explain.
I was 2 months prem and had asthma somehow my mum made it go away and I was fine apart from when I was overweight and would get chest infections. Then I was prescribed inhalers.
Lost the weight, asthma went apart from if I got ill such as bad colds and the one time I got flu.
When I have my inhalers I get a text from gp to fill out some inhaler questionnaire. I answer it honestly and then the gp calls and says I'm not deemed as needing one. Fair enough. I had a flair up and had to order one from an online pharmacy. Obviously I will need to speak to gp and see what can be done for that.
