To think Matt Hancock should have been voted off

He broke the covid rules he helped put in place. He cheated on his wife and left his children for the OW. Why the actual fuck are people voting for this Tory to stay?

Many would still have restrictions in place now if they could.

sashagabadon · 27/11/2022 10:29

But @Violashift what was the alternative course of action in your view bearing in mind we were “ 2 weeks behind “ Italy. And if all you can say is well not that! Then you have no plan and no alternative vision of what would have been better.
say no elderly were discharged to their own home ( care homes) and kept in hospital regardless and there was a tsunami of people needing hospital beds and the nhs was overwhelmed and turning people away, barricading the hospital doors to prevent too many people needing a bed all at once what would you now be saying?

Violashift · 27/11/2022 10:29

@girlmom21

Huh? Thought we were talking about care homes? It's not against the law to kiss
someone. I don't care about this.

Runningintolife · 27/11/2022 10:30

Once they are in the jungle I think people just vote on the group dynamics, it sort of strips people of their context - it becomes about who is a bully, boring, creates drama, overcomes difficulty, who is funny, pleasant about others, does well for camp. And I also wouldn't underestimate the simple spotlight effect of all the newspaper articles about him and just the fact that he is so well known to all of us for being on the podium during the crisis. And half the people voting seem to think they are voting people out and not voting to save, so that probably doesn't help!

Giving care home staff adequate pp and telling them who had the virus. As I keep saying.

Research it. It is easy to find.

Willmafrockfit · 27/11/2022 10:33

PPE came from China in the main,
and they wanted it for themselves.

sashagabadon · 27/11/2022 10:34

And don’t say better pandemic preparedness. What does that mean exactly ?
wards on standby for a pandemic that might come in 6 months or 20 years? Piles of ppe in warehouses bought just in case and slowly going “off” as yes ppe does have a shelf life.
should we be spending millions now on pandemic preparations in case of another one in the next decade as there could be or have we got more urgent needs for the money ?

Someone described it as the British Underdog reflex.

sashagabadon · 27/11/2022 10:35

But there was a world wide shortage of ppe and its a global market and ministers did try and source it from everywhere ( now getting criticised for fraud) so just saying more ppe in care homes is fine but how??

Agree.

I think people are being really disingenuous and would not actually agree with stockpiles of stuff suitable for every type of pandemic imaginable.

TellMeWhere · 27/11/2022 10:38

People can vote as they wish.

I don't think working politicians should be allowed to bunk off and earn a fortune on reality TV, but that's a different matter. He should donate his earnings to his constituency.

sashagabadon · 27/11/2022 10:38

So viola should care homes be putting aside a yearly budget and storing ppe each year in preparation for a future virus pandemic?

if not the care homes then who should do this and pay for it.
if no pandemic comes it would have to be chucked out as it ages so you would have to have a rolling programme of buying sone each year and chucking some each year. Let’s hope the daily mail doesn’t find out!

sashagabadon · 27/11/2022 10:43

One thing I think government can be criticised for is outsourcing our ppe to other nations that can put embargoes on supply. That is a risk for the future and we quite clearly need to manufacture our own.
that is a valid criticism and hopefully something we will change for the future.
but clearly not MH fault and prior to the pandemic I have never heard it brought up as a potential risk to the nhs as presumably it was never thought possible. Well now we know so any future government could rightly be criticised for lack of ppe manufacturing ability.

Read lessons learned. It's all out there. Research it.

Also listen to real people affected on radio stations. You may change your blind mind then.

I think people are stretching to blame MH for everything that’s happened. He didn’t cause Covid. He (and Boris) were advised by a team of scientific and medical experts who helped create guidelines. More people would have died if no guidelines were in place pre vaccines. Almost every country in the world followed similar rules or guidelines. Where do people suggest the elderly went instead of being sent back to care homes? There certainly wasn’t spare hospital beds to keep them in hospital. Yes he snogged his co-worker who he was working with every single day.

He’s getting votes because of how his fellow contestants treated him when he arrived. Many of them with a colourful past themselves, Boy George is especially a hypocrite when he’s been to prison. Sue caught drink driving twice. Ant & Dec also treating him very differently and ridiculing him, when Ant can’t talk either. MH might have broken the guidelines he created, but he’s not done any of the above. That’s why people are voting for him

Yes this in a nutshell.

I can’t abide the virtue signalling and hypocrisy of some of the other camp mates.

Basically, some of them thought MH would be unpopular with viewers, so in a bid to boost their own popularity they thought it was fair game to treat him differently. It backfired because many of the public were prepared to treat him at face value.

The camp mates who treated him as a normal person, and didn’t use the mistreatment of him to further their own popularity, eg Jill, Sean, Owen, have come across better and therefore received more votes.

Everyone on the show is there to further their own careers or for money or to boost their profile. Those who pretend otherwise are lying.

I agree with this. The campmates who got on with it and respected each other regardless of background are the ones still standing. It speaks volumes that the "hate the Tory scum" attitude didn't last.

MH seems like a nice guy who got thrown under a bus because he was the face of COVID as the health minister. I can't say as I blame him for going into the jungle looking for a change of career.

Irrespective of the politics, I don’t actually understand why lots of you are saying he is great to watch and doing well etc etc. He’s quite boring, slighty awkward, and with no obviously redeeming qualities. Notable that his highlight was him getting 11 stars - essentially needing to feed his ego, nothing more personal or reflective.

mike has been far more entertaining and impressive. As have all the others in my view

If you think a nasty bully as Mike is entertaining it really says more about your character any your judgement

Lollipop999 · 27/11/2022 11:11

Much of the ppe was out of date and/or rendered useless. We were actively told not to use ppe, unless treating someone confirmed as positive initially, but then they weren’t testing that many. We were old not to wear it off wards, eg in corridors or staff rooms or office areas. There wasn’t enough!

But then the alternative is keep stocks high just in case like people have said, with the high chance it will just be binned! I wouldn’t want to be in charge of how to spend the nation’s finances, but it seems many on here have all the answers…

(even though they haven’t actually said what they would have actually done if they were in power….just what they wouldn’t have done!)

Violashift · 27/11/2022 11:12

The majority of the world was unprepared for it, but yes let's blame Matt Hancock for it!

Well he was part of the people in charge. Clearly not all his fault but he was in charge.

It is like he has been in the stocks long enough that people have changed their mind.
Crackers.

And I'd love those who "hate" him to ask themselves, are you still bitter about brexit?

This is so reductive. Pray do list the Brexit benefits. I’ll wait.

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 12:08

@Withholdingvitalinfo I'll wait with you, it'll be good to see the list....
