Saint + Sophia asking for a tip. CFs?

I’ve put off buying from Saint+Sophia due to what I’ve read on here about the quality and customer service, but they have a sale on, and I really wanted to try their wide legged trousers, so I bit the bullet.

However, I was really taken aback when checking out - there was a request for a tip! You could click to pay extra - there were three buttons, offering I think 5, 10 or 20% extra on top of the price.

I’ve never, ever seen that before on a retail site (and trust me, I’ve put in the hard yards).

I declined the offer - but was I BU? It just seemed beyond cheeky, as they’re not a little cottage company, are they?

Tipped for bloody what?! That's ridiculous!

londonrach · 25/11/2022 07:55

Never ever heard of that in this situation. I'd decline too as you not been offered a service just buying clothes and they not there yet either. Strange. Yabu.

Aprilx · 25/11/2022 07:55

Well I have never heard of them so can’t comment on what size organisation. But I don’t think that is relevant anyway, I have a very small ETSY shop and I wouldn’t expect a tip, never heard of tips in retail.

londonrach · 25/11/2022 07:56

Yanbu ...no idea why it said yabu. X

DuncanBiscuits · 25/11/2022 07:57

I wish I’d taken a screenshot now. I thought it must be a charity donation at first, but no.

Their customer service is awful too. I tried their wide leg trousers, really cheap material, too short, I had a problem with delivery and the staff were so dense, just did that thing where they don't read what you've written. Sent it all back in the end and get irritated by every catalogue they send, completely overpriced tat.

So yeah don't tip!

AuntieMarys · 25/11/2022 08:01

They take ages to refund. Cheeky fuckers

imaginationhasfailedme · 25/11/2022 09:59

I remember that from when I ordered a few years back, very strange concept.
And everything I ordered went back, cheap material and nothing fit right (which might be my problem, not theirs, I don't look like the gals on their website!). Refund took forever and there was a portion removed for postage or something, I remember being cross about something...

aintnothinbutagstring · 25/11/2022 10:12

Its not a carbon neutral payment is it?

DuncanBiscuits · 25/11/2022 16:48

Nope. ‘If you fancy giving us a tip we’d be very grateful,’ or words to that effect.

This is all very informative. I've been quite tempted by their very expensive trousers so it's good to know they're shite.

Naunet · 25/11/2022 17:12

Right cheeky sods!

Yep, that’s it.

That's so weird

DuncanBiscuits · 25/11/2022 17:14

I wonder it was a covid-survival tactic that they’ve stuck with?

OP posts:
Hattie72 · 25/11/2022 17:14

How weird. Their clothes look nice on their website, but I have seen people wearing it in real life and it looks cheap so would never buy from them.

DuncanBiscuits · 25/11/2022 17:19

I’m regretting my trousers now. Does anyone have any of their stuff that they’re pleased with?

OP posts:
4thdegree · 25/11/2022 17:21

mental! although I guess their thinking is ‘if you don’t ask you don’t get’ but…surely the amount they get in tips doesn’t make up for the customers they lose because of them being cheeky fuckers

Mercurial123 · 25/11/2022 17:24

I bought an expensive dressing gown from Very Kerry they also asked for a tip. I wouldn't mind if it was going to their garment workers in India but it was to "staff".

DohaDragon · 25/11/2022 17:25

That’s insane and is going to piss people off. As if anyone is going to tip £17 for a pair of trousers.

MusselMam · 25/11/2022 17:28

@DuncanBiscuits hello! I've got the runway pants. Love them. Thick material, comfortable, don't go baggy at the knees. I also ordered the apartment pants but they were thinner and wasn't impressed. I got them in early 2021 and they have washed well. Recommended by a work friend. I paid £70 then. Don't temember being asked to tip though. Ridiculous.

fruktsoda · 25/11/2022 17:29

That's hilarious! So basically if you "serve" the public you deserve a tip, by their reasoning. I wonder what jobs don't "deserve" a gratuity...

clary · 25/11/2022 17:29

I bought two dresses from there which I thought looked lovely - and the patterns were pretty but the dresses were very thin nasty material and the fit and style did not flatter. They were £££ as well (like, £90+ for a summer dress) - to top it off, I had to pay for the returns. Very poor when most places don't charge for that - I need to see if it fits and if I like it. I was not impressed. I emailed and told them so but got no response. YY they also took ages to refund. Crossed that off the list of places I will consider shopping.

I've had a few things from them and they've been fine, but not worth full price.

I've ordered recently and not seen that tip screen.

superdupernova · 25/11/2022 17:32

I have the runway pants and love them too. So comfy but they look suitable for wearing to work.
