How much do you spend on weekly shop?

2 adults and 2 dc and dog. I'm spending £230 a week. I'm buying brands. I'm wondering if this is unusual or should I cut back. It seems a lot. How much are you spending?

Roughly £190 a week for 5 people, 4 adults, 1 child. Including all cleaning stuff and wine. We could shop more cheaply but it wouldn't be as convenient.

ILOVECHEESE79 · 24/11/2022 22:08

@usernotfound0000 how on earth do you manage to spend so little on cat food?! What do you buy said feline(s)?!

LaraWearsZara · 24/11/2022 22:09

If you'd have asked me before I'd have said I spent £80 ish a week (2 adults and 2 DC age 7 and 4).
But I started keeping a spreadsheet a few months ago to track everything we spent and including top up shops (usually 1 mid week for fresh produce and milk/bread runs etc) we are actually spending £130-£150 a week. We have tried to get it below £100 but haven't suceeded

LittleBearPad · 24/11/2022 22:09

About the same as you with one less child.

chikp · 24/11/2022 22:09

If you don't drink and don't eat cheese you save a lot

Also pets. They cost looooads.

DC doesn't use so many nappies now but they cost a fortune

£150 not including dog food and alcohol. I don't scrimp, we could spend more. 2 adults 2 tweens.

happyfeet5 · 24/11/2022 22:13

Easily £125, 2 adults.

Used to be £70 but things have gone up so much.

turnedintomygran · 24/11/2022 22:14

I shop daily (it's easier than it sounds with my routine. I spend £15 per day on average (it's budgeted this way).... So that's around about £105 a week. Family of 3. Includes basic toiletries and cleaning products.

We batch cook on a Monday and it does dinners and lunches through the week. Cook on the weekends. We never get takeaways but eat out once a month on average. Never (or rarely) buy brands.

AnnieSnap · 24/11/2022 22:15

probably about £250 per week for two human adults, two dog (small), two cats (with huge appetites). This includes food and general household items. We used to buy organic. Had to stop that apart from dairy (the cows have better lives) and our shopping is still getting on for twice what we paid last year. We’re vegetarian, so no meat. We don’t drink, so no alcohol. DH makes meals from scratch and I bake our bread. The cost of food (including pet food), toiletries and household items is bloody ridiculous!

IncessantNameChanger · 24/11/2022 22:16

£90-100 for three adults, a teen and two kids. I have a well stocked food cupboard and spice rack.

I don't have £230 per week for food so I guess it's all relative. Next week I'm not buying food, I'm going to use up what I have got. I need a car battery. If I had double my income I could easily spend £150 per week but I'd struggle to spend £230. There are few brands I'm loyal too and I can even forgo my PG Tips.

gogohmm · 24/11/2022 22:17

Honestly? Don't know. I spend about £60 at the weekend but at least another £25-30 during the week plus dp sometimes goes and dsd buys junk her snacks and asked lunch stuff (adult) and dd buys junk delicious pastries. Then we eat out ...

gogohmm · 24/11/2022 22:18

It does include wine for 4 Blush

Rachaelrachael · 24/11/2022 22:18

About £100 per week for 2 adults and 2 toddlers

greenredgrass · 24/11/2022 22:18

usernotfound0000 · 24/11/2022 22:22

@ILOVECHEESE79 buy Felix box of 40 pouches on an Amazon subscribe and save. 2 boxes a month and it's £10.92 a box currently

Ontobetterthings · 24/11/2022 22:23

No I had someone comment to me I was spending a lot for 4 of us. So I just wondered what you were spending. It doesn't sound like I'm overspending from responses. I don't meal plan and buy all brands. Thank you 😊

EmmaDilemma5 · 24/11/2022 22:27

I'd say on average around £100/wk for 2 adults and 2 preschoolers.

Vegetarian and low alcohol. Inc nappies and all toiletries.

We buy mostly frozen veg, loads of fruit. A mix of brands and non-brands, depends what's on offer in Tesco.

We don't meal plan but the odd week we have, I've realised it's a lot cheaper. I also find it cheaper to online shop so I don't get carried away in the moment.

It’s a discussion site FFS! There’s nothing wrong with the OP question. You can just scroll by. Why so snippy?

It's up to you really. But you could easily save which could make a big difference to your savings/holidays

tickticksnooze · 24/11/2022 22:05

How are you spending that much?

These thread are pointless. We all have vastly different lifestyles, tastes and budgets.

you can buy £1 shampoo or £10 shampoo. People can eat salmon and steak every week, plus expensive wines while others will be having beans on toast. Some will stock up on expensive cleaning supplies, others will buy a bottle of 99p bleach.

It is very easy to spend hundreds of pounds a week on a family shop if you have the money.

AdoraBell · 24/11/2022 22:35

About £100-£125, DDs are in Uni now so that reduced our costs.

What do you buy, and could you switch some brands to cheaper options?
