Would you go out this soon after COVID?

MissAtomicBomb1 · 24/11/2022 17:33

Just want opinions really.
Started with COVID symptoms last Saturday. Tested positive on weds.
Have had to isolate from work due to the job I do though explained I was happy to go in as I now feel fine.
Due to go out with friends tomorrow night. Would you want to go out with someone who'd just had covid? Will it look bad if I'm seen by someone at work?

OP posts:

Go out if you feel well, stay in if you don't, same as any illness

You're told not to go out for a set period (other notifiable diseases eg measles) or until you are no longer likely to be infectious (feeling really well but chicken pox lesions not yet scabbed)

Why should covid br different?

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 26/11/2022 07:13

If you test negative then ho out.
Otherwise you are still contagious 🤷🏻‍♀️

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 26/11/2022 07:14

"Go" out not "Ho" 🤶🏽

LizTrusssPA · 26/11/2022 07:50

I won't pay for tests, if it's that important they'll be supplied.

It was important and the only reason it stopped being important is because it was costing too much in their eyes. Every single TV and Radio station in the UK still has covid control measures and people testing + are required to isolate until negative whilst they sit there and tell the country it's a lot less harmful now. Ever noticed how they all sit there on the panels on the daytime TV shows still socially distanced still too? If it wasn't that important they wouldn't be supplied anywhere free or otherwise.

If you don't want to test fine but anyone who's a true believer in freedom of choice will be just as content with others who chose to test where they feel it is necessary too.

@sleepwouldbenice still lacking comprehension skills then? Or not reading all my posts?

Shall I spell it out for you again?

@Hummingbird11 you may also want to read this?

If I'm not well, I don't go out. I do not rely on some flawed tests that give me permission or not. The tests as OP have demonstrated are flawed, they presumably gave a false negative at the beginning of her having covid, because a cold etc doesn't develop into covid, it's covid or not right from the start. So by your reasoning it was ok for OP to go out to begin with, because she could wave her negative test at everyone, even though it was wrong?

I know people where their OH and DC are covid positive, they have symptoms but are just saying "well I'm testing negative, so I can go out"? Only of course to test positive a few days later, unsurprisingly.

You'd prefer that?

So, I use that common sense approach of just not going out if I'm unwell.

Again, I'm not paying for teats, they are just giving people who are unwell false permission to go out.

Can you explain the maths with all that?

Your conscience not mine

And if washing your hands was important in any way, soap would be free, right?

ConfusedConfused
Of course there are people who will use tests in the wrong way
Same people who would come up with any excuse to do what they want all the time
But testing , if you can afford it, is better than not
It's that simple

Conkersareback · 26/11/2022 13:41

@sleepwouldbenice u think common sense is better that inaccurate test! It's really that simple!

That should be I think, you carry in testing if you like.

Conkersareback · 26/11/2022 13:44

Yep @Hummingbird11 my conscience is squeaky clean! No sleep lost because I don't use inaccurate tests and instead use my common sense? So you think the people going round saying I'm negative, I took a test so therefore I'm fine, so I'll go out, are better than me that stays home if unwell? Not rely on rubbish tests and hiding behind a false negative?

Your conscience on that then!

My conscience is perfectly clear thank you - and has been for the last 3 years. I have no conscience that I am putting anybody in danger by spreading my germs whilst covid positive.
Why do you think tests are inaccurate?? Without covid tests over the last couple of years there would have been a hell of a lot more deaths from this awful virus

I feel like you are misunderstanding. Most people I know will stay home if they have a positive test and if they feel unwell. It isn't an either/or situation.

Conkersareback · 26/11/2022 14:57

@takealettermsjones I think you misunderstand not everyone is the same, as you say most.. not all.

thing47 · 26/11/2022 15:17

I'm not sure why people think PCR tests are inaccurate? They're not flawless, of course, no test is. But they're pretty reliable.

DD2 (who has a BSc in biomed and a first-class MSc in infectious diseases from a top-2 university) now works in quality control for a company which produces PCR tests. I think she is qualified to comment on the accuracy of PCR tests…

She would echo @Conkersareback's point that the infectious stage can begin before a positive test, but a positive test is still close to definitive since false positives are extremely rare.

I know people where their OH and DC are covid positive, they have symptoms but are just saying "well I'm testing negative, so I can go out"? Only of course to test positive a few days later, unsurprisingly.*

Do you have comprehension issues? You don't think that test was inaccurate? Another friend had a cold as she tested negative, two days later positive, quell surprise. So off she went out and about with " I've got a cold", but that's on hers and people like yours conscience!

Exactly!

If sick, stay in!

It's really quite simple, for people with any amount of common sense, sadly as seen on here, many people lack it.

Conkersareback · 26/11/2022 17:11

@thing47 sorry posted too soon! I disagree that the amount of false negatives are few, two out of two for people I know!

Sick, stay in!
