Parking rant -with diagram

AIBU to still be stewing about this 3 days later?
Well, I know I am, but as I can't get it out of my mind I thought I'd get it off my chest here Grin
My sister lives in a small estate of terraced houses with no drives, but there is a fair amount of parking available, both along the road and in the cul-de-sac as per the diagram. There is no restriction at all on parking, so no permits, no disabled bays, no 'residents only' restrictions, nothing. All good. When I went to visit on Sunday there weren't many spaces, so I parked at the end of the cul-de-sac as pictured. The space available was not big enough for two cars, so I just parked reasonably close to the car next to me (normal distance away) I was only staying for an hour. I was parked perfectly normally and legitimately.
When I came out, a resident had parked on the other side of me, no more than 4 inches from my car, half on the grass, making it impossible to get in, and another car, presumably from the same family, had parked behind me to attempt to, but not quite, block me in.
The inevitable nasty note (in the plastic bag, in red pen) on the windshield) read something along the lines of ' Thankyou for parking with such disrespect to our parking. I have taken pictures of your car should you cause any damage!!'

What. The. Fuck. I stood for a moment trying to work out what my crime might have been. Couldn't figure it out. Came to the conclusion they thought I was taking up two spaces or something (I wasn't) or just didn't like me parking near their house. I was going to start knocking on doors but my daughter wouldn't let me.
So I climbed in from the passenger side, screwed up the note and threw it on the bonnet of their car, and did several swift manoeuvres to extricate my car, and drove off. Fuming.
Why are people so petty??

You’re not being unreasonable, they are wankers and feel entitled to nobody parking where THEY want to park. 10/10 for diagram.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 22/11/2022 13:40

You did nothing wrong.
if it happens again though I would take photos of wanker cars after you’ve manoeuvred out of the space, they seem like the sort who would try and claim you damaged their car even if you hadn’t.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 13:42

@HolyMilkBoobiesBatman I know I wish I'd thought of that at the time! Annoying.

Lovely diagrams!

They're eejits who think they own the space outside their house. Ignore. (Next time, if possible, reverse park so they can't block your driver side in!)

This
Best diagram and explanation I have seen on a MN parking thread but definitely next time park so drivers side won't be compromised by these idiots

RoseBucket · 22/11/2022 13:52

I love a diagram with colour added, it adds interest.

Re parking, I can’t see what you did wrong, passive aggressive arseholes. Which house is your sisters does she know the car owners?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 22/11/2022 13:52

Probably believe they own the space outside of their house.

We had a neighbour like this, he was never mean about it but on the rare occasion he went out, if anybody parked in 'his' spot he would park elsewhere but move his car back the second the spot became free. There were 4 dents in the road from where his tyres sat!

alittlequinnie · 22/11/2022 13:52

Yeah - my husband and I parked in a little area opposite my Mum's house when we went to visit.

No yellow lines, no markings - I made a point of looking around for signs to show parking restrictions etc.

We didn't block anybody in anything.

But when we got back to the car there was a really nasty note on it saying it was residents parking only.

They came out to moan at us - I said there are no signs etc to say residents only.

They said the sign had fallen off but we should "just know".

As I'm not telepathic I "just didn't"

Some people are just wankers!

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 13:54

I also wish I'd written a pithy reply on the back on the note and stuck it under THEIR windscreen. But I was so insenced I couldn't thing of anything more profound than 'FUCK OFF'
Also, I couldn't find a pen Angry

I just came for the diagram & it didn't disappoint - 10/10! Those people are definitely wankers. One day someone will most likely break their noses. If I were you I'd be festering with vengeful thoughts for a week and then forget about them. Trust in karma!

LadyHarmby · 22/11/2022 14:04

Knobbers.

Droven · 22/11/2022 14:07

Be sure to park in the same space should the opportunity arise just with the drivers side accessible. We have this type of wanker on our road.

JenniferWooley · 22/11/2022 14:09

Why are people so petty??

Because when you get home from a long day at work & providing care for your elderly parents to discover you can't park anywhere near your own house on a daily basis it's really irritating - this is a constant bugbear of mine in my street but I just quietly seethe about it & move my car when a space becomes available.

I do however do the passive aggressive parking my passenger side a bawhair width away from the drivers door of the arsehole downstairs who can't park for shit! He's always hanging over the lines & squint (he also takes up 7 communal spaces with cars/vans that aren't taxed or have a current MOT).

Sitdownnigel · 22/11/2022 14:14

They’re wankers. Ignore their petty little grievances. Park there at every possible opportunity. Don’t be put off parking there again if you have to.

I have NDN that do this. Nice people but will move their car a few inches down to be directly outside their house, completely baffles me!

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 22/11/2022 14:21

No advice, just wanted to congratulate you on your fantastic diagrams ;)

OhamIreally · 22/11/2022 14:39

My sister is like this. I drive 200 miles to see her and she flies out of the house and get me to move the car as "DN likes to park there".

Tessasanderson · 22/11/2022 15:13

If i were vindictive enough i would park elsewhere and walk in next time. You know where they like to park..........

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/11/2022 15:19

Did you park in the turning bay? I live in a cul de sac and it's rage inducing when someone parks in the turning bay.

You’re probably best moving to a property with its own drive or parking space then. No one owns the bit of road outside their house so it’s not reasonable getting het up about it being used

No, it is absolutely not a turning bay

I do as do most home owners on un-adopted roads. The property boundary extends to the middle of the road although there are restrictions regarding use of that land.
I can't however be bothered with monitoring who parks on my bit of road unlike some others on the street 😊
