Parking rant -with diagram

AIBU to still be stewing about this 3 days later?
Well, I know I am, but as I can't get it out of my mind I thought I'd get it off my chest here Grin
My sister lives in a small estate of terraced houses with no drives, but there is a fair amount of parking available, both along the road and in the cul-de-sac as per the diagram. There is no restriction at all on parking, so no permits, no disabled bays, no 'residents only' restrictions, nothing. All good. When I went to visit on Sunday there weren't many spaces, so I parked at the end of the cul-de-sac as pictured. The space available was not big enough for two cars, so I just parked reasonably close to the car next to me (normal distance away) I was only staying for an hour. I was parked perfectly normally and legitimately.
When I came out, a resident had parked on the other side of me, no more than 4 inches from my car, half on the grass, making it impossible to get in, and another car, presumably from the same family, had parked behind me to attempt to, but not quite, block me in.
The inevitable nasty note (in the plastic bag, in red pen) on the windshield) read something along the lines of ' Thankyou for parking with such disrespect to our parking. I have taken pictures of your car should you cause any damage!!'

What. The. Fuck. I stood for a moment trying to work out what my crime might have been. Couldn't figure it out. Came to the conclusion they thought I was taking up two spaces or something (I wasn't) or just didn't like me parking near their house. I was going to start knocking on doors but my daughter wouldn't let me.
So I climbed in from the passenger side, screwed up the note and threw it on the bonnet of their car, and did several swift manoeuvres to extricate my car, and drove off. Fuming.
Why are people so petty??

Sure it would have been better if you had told them to ftfo, but you didn’t. You screwed up their note and left it on their car. Proper contempt. It’s what they deserve.

if you visit, do the exact same thing again. Fuck them! They’re nothing and don’t get to police parking.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 16:46

@Sistedtwister but we aren't talking about an unadapted road in this case. The residents most definitely do not own the road.

@MzHz yes. Thank you. I feel better. Grin

So they deliberately parked to try to prevent you getting out easily? And could potentially have damaged the car behind you if you’d been unable to get out? They’re idiots!

I know! Twats

@EL8888 it's a residents only car park owned by the HA but no one seems to care and no one enforces it because it's not a public highway.

FurAndFeathers · 22/11/2022 17:24

I’m probably in the minority but I think if the wanker car managed to park next to yours and the driver had space to get out, you could probably have budged up a bit to make that parking space more comfortable.

I always think it’s interesting in car parks with no marked bays how many parking spaces are wasted as each car takes an extra foot of clearance space between the next car that they manage perfectly well without in marked bays.

Sistedtwister · 22/11/2022 18:26

@InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream I know. That's why I didn't quote you I was replying to a post that said no-one owns the road in front of their house.
I agree with you. They were being twats

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 18:31

@FurAndFeathers Well,no, there was literally only half a car's width left next to mine. The available space was nowhere near big enough for two cars. They parked half up on the grass.

Fair enough, I missed that in the diagram.

they’re clearly dicks but YABU to be stewing about it days later. Don’t give them headspace

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 20:06

@FurAndFeathers well I think my diagram was sadly a bit lacking re the amount of space/grass Blush

Be sure to park in the same space should the opportunity arise just with the drivers side accessible. We have this type of wanker on our road.

Or better still park over two spaces so they can't get their car in!

JenniferWooley · 22/11/2022 14:09

Why are people so petty??

Because when you get home from a long day at work & providing care for your elderly parents to discover you can't park anywhere near your own house on a daily basis it's really irritating - this is a constant bugbear of mine in my street but I just quietly seethe about it & move my car when a space becomes available.

I do however do the passive aggressive parking my passenger side a bawhair width away from the drivers door of the arsehole downstairs who can't park for shit! He's always hanging over the lines & squint (he also takes up 7 communal spaces with cars/vans that aren't taxed or have a current MOT).

So report them?

JenniferWooley · 22/11/2022 21:10

@Conkersareback I have done - numerous times but as it's not technically a public highway DVSA aren't interested & HA have been in a battle with them for the past 10 years - the vehicles are moved when it gets close to the legal stage then moved back once it's calmed down & the process starts again.

Tbf it’s beyond my artistic capabilities so I think you did pretty well!

chocolateisavegetable · 22/11/2022 21:21

Fabulous diagram OP! Enjoy knowing that they would have been really annoyed that you got out with no problems.

SilentHedges · 22/11/2022 22:10

@InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream I can understand why you're raging. Excellent diagram with a before and after.

The way I try and rationalise these encounters is this "You have encountered these w@nkers once in your life, but these w@nkers are stuck with themselves for eternity, and what a stressful place that must be". Then I imagine a thick steel shutter going down behind me, with said w@nkers on the other side, left to their miserable petty little lives.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 22/11/2022 22:56

@SilentHedges thank you, that is helpful Smile
