Again with the 'I earn loads, but LOOK HOW MUCH MONEY MY HUSBAND HAS' blathering.

No-one is ASKING what peoples husbands earn! Why do some women here feel the need to brag about the money their husband allegedly earns/has in savings/in his pension?!

It's actually a bit pathetic and sad. Do you all need your husband to validate your existence THAT much? Sad

I added my husband’s earnings as I think it’s relevant. He’s less qualified than I am but earns more.

Because the 1970s, I should imagine.

these threads are pointless, they just bring out the worst kind of posters.

ThatBliddyWoman · 20/11/2022 20:48

Comparison is the thief of joy.

I don't think this is a 'game'.

louderthan · 20/11/2022 20:38

So depressing. I'm 41 and in the past year have gone from 21k to 31k (public sector) via two very competitive promotions and a lot of hard work. I'm still really proud of myself but this does make me feel a bit shit.

Thats the whole point of this thread...to make you feel shit.

The op will sleel better tonight.

Dallimore · 20/11/2022 20:47

Well this makes me feel shit earning £20k at 28 years old, but that’s pretty high for wages round here. Surely op you must realise your salary is far from average

Once again, MUCH of what is being claimed on here is not true. It's really not. Including the high salaries and the even HIGHER salaries of the husbands!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am waiting for the 'why are you so invested' and 'why are you so angry' comments to come at me soon. They usually follow when posters are challenged, and they have no answers/no defence, and someone keeps challenging them/questioning them/posting good valid points. Wink

fjäl · 20/11/2022 20:52

@Yoghurtandblueberries oh please tell me where I was oh so aggressive to someone I don't know? I was reassuring someone very valuable to society that now feel inferior because of YOUR thread. Well done. You're very patronising aren't you. Maybe you need a new hobby instead of starting goady MN threads eh. Though how would you find the time with you 2 kids! And your 'average' salaried job?

SEMama2022 · 20/11/2022 20:52

37 - £550k+ - lawyer. Two children. Appreciate this is a ridiculous salary and try to donate as much as possible to charitable causes and social enterprise initiatives.

Stravaig · 20/11/2022 20:52

Fifties
Fumes of my savings, entering debt
Long Covid. 2 years, 9 months, and counting
Living out of boxes in a shitty rental

Your wage is double the UK average, OP.
How do you think you're making most people feel?

fjäl · 20/11/2022 20:52

@PurpleButterflyWings maybe the OP will suggest some therapy or a holiday for you.

But why @FayeGovan ? Why do people post these threads to make people feel bad? To what end? Confused

fjäl · 20/11/2022 20:54

My goodness, I'm just a few years younger and going on my main salary alone, I earn just over a fifth of what you do. 🙈

CuddlyRita · 20/11/2022 20:54

Pffft

MabelMoo23 · 20/11/2022 20:55

46, NHS Band 5 admin - £18k (£28k FTE ) I feel shit because I’ve had to take a massive step down in my career due to my husband’s job / kids and I’m sick of earning crap pay and being spoken to like a moron

but then I feel crap because there are nurses who are band 5 and HCAs in lower bands earning way less and their jobs are quite frankly far more worthwhile than mine.
plus a lot of NHS admin staff are band 3, so as admin jobs go in the NHS, I’m well paid.

but I still feel like crap and totally unvalued

Grin Or anger management. 😂 I have had THAT suggested before when I have post impassionate responses/views. People post goady shit like this and then wonder why people get rattled!

SEMama2022 · 20/11/2022 20:56

It’s a result of crazy markets and lots of work for the last few years. I expect we’ll see a massive downturn in our industry, so not spending like it Beckham.

ahunf · 20/11/2022 20:57

2 kids. Husband is military but can't afford to drive home to see us.

Gosh! Please go for a run, have a bath, a glass of wine, anything! You have so much pressure and you need to unwind…

Deep breaths and all will be fine!

And it’s not a bragging thread. I don’t earn over 100k

Surely this op is a troll??? This is too patronising and antagonist to be real??

FlissyPaps · 20/11/2022 20:58

Yoghurtandblueberries · 20/11/2022 20:19

Based on the posts I think I am average if not a bit higher than average. Before posting I thought I was average according to my studies and people I know. Anyway, I didn’t come to brag, it’s all anonymous and as you said I have better things to do than bragging on MN. I am just curious! And my DH has no clue about this thread

You think you’re average because you’re posting on Mumsnet🙄Notorious for competitiveness, comparison and goading.

I’ll tell you again, admit it that you wanted to brag. I’ll respect you more if you admit it. Or are you really that tone def and deliberately obtuse?

(PS….the average UK salary is around £25-27K. Just incase you needed help.)

Can I ask (inspired by the chat with @supertato32)

Thise if you who are in management, when people come to you and ask for raises or negotiate their starting salary, is it a much higher percentage of men than women? And when people negotiate a higher salary before they’ve started the job is that expected or crass? It’s not something I could ever see myself doing so I’m just curious!
