Wish I earned more, but clearly my job is far less important than all these corporate/HR/Accountancy jobs...

But I suppose someone has to look after these people when they suffer from heart attacks from their incredibly important highly stressful and well paid jobs.

And this thread has made me feel very undervalued and inadequate for going into healthcare. Thanks OP, appreciate it!

Surely this comes as no surprise? And if it does, then this thread should be a valuable eye opener

Yoghurtandblueberries · 20/11/2022 21:01

Shall we not discuss ever about salaries because some people earn less than others? It’s not a competition! I was curious and that’s why I made this thread. If you don’t like it , please don’t post

And I am not a troll!

37 - £550k+ - lawyer. Two children. Appreciate this is a ridiculous salary and try to donate as much as possible to charitable causes and social enterprise initiatives.

Love this - well done! Are you an equity partner? London-based? A friend’s mum is a partner at Freshfields and was one of my role models growing up (though I chose accountancy rather than law in the end!)

Around £30,000 if I worked full time.

Before I had kids I worked in the media (TV). In the early 2000's I was earning around £40,000 as a freelancer. That would probably be double today if you factor in career progression. I'm so much happier doing what I do now. Back then I was breaking my back working 60+ hours a week. V hard to do with kids and no family support.

Bloody hell, that’s amazing, and fair play.

50 , 32k , Band 5 nurse who has been qualified a long time. Would like to move up the payscale but it would mean minimal patient contact and a lot more admin and pretending I am on message, when the message is often as not pointless rage inducing frippery ! I can pretend in short bursts though, so might give it a shot once the HRT kicks in Grin

I’m 29. Earn 20K. Childcare.

but most people wouldn’t be able to work and earn their (much better) salaries without us.
1 child of my own. (And thankfully a very decent childcare discount otherwise I’d have no choice but to leave)

Not equity; salaried. London based. Appreciate it’s a lot of money and want to make sure my children don’t end up thinking money grows on trees. As my dad says, never look down on people unless you’re helping them up. I try and instil this attitude into my team, especially the juniors who think they’re something special because they’re being paid woefully too much (as am I) for what we do.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 20/11/2022 21:09

Everyone complaining - this was the top trending thread for a good minute so clearly not a shit, irrelevant or uninteresting subject matter relative to most threads on here.

Why not compare real life demographics? Makes a change from bickering about bathroom bins, and it's refreshingly eye opening.

But this is Mumsnet, where we're all supposed to be sheepish and contrite if we don't happen to be struggling with money.

noworklifebalance · 20/11/2022 21:11

Loics · 20/11/2022 20:54

My goodness, I'm just a few years younger and going on my main salary alone, I earn just over a fifth of what you do. 🙈

Just over a fifth is >£110k, so a lot of money and that is just your main salary. And in your mid-30s, which I consider to be very young!
Or am I misunderstanding your post?

allabitmadtbf · 20/11/2022 21:12

49-NHS receptionist part time - £11,500. Think I'm possibly the lowest paid here. Feel a bit shit now.

Yoghurtandblueberries · 20/11/2022 19:21

@FayeGovan you are not funny.

Everyone else that clearly don’t want to say this invaluable personal information , you don’t need to post in an aggressive way like you are 5 years old.

I certainly didn’t come here to brag and I think my salary is average.

Op, dont worry. I understand that you are not bragging. I can see the purpose of this thread - to gauge which sectors are good from financial benefits point of you and some posters can benefit from the information if they are thinking of retraining.

And I am not a troll!

Your title literally starts with Let’s play a game.

So you clearly wanted to do it for a game. For fun. You realised after a few posts down that the tone of the thread was inappropriate and can be seen as boasting and goading.

Your game backfired. And instead of admitting your true intentions you’re trying to now look like the good guy and want women to open about their salaries. As they should. But not in a game. That’s so gross and distasteful. Especially stating your own salary and thinking it’s an average one😂Seriously come on now.

Women are underpaid compared to their male counterparts. Why should it be a game? Why are we a laughing stock? Why should this be fun?
