Ok I’ll play. I’m 47, NHS IT 70k

HelpMeGetThrough · 20/11/2022 21:15

47, Politics, was £164,080 for a few days.

Oh bugger, was that information "outing" 🤔

Usernamesarboring · 20/11/2022 21:15

@allabitmadtbf can you retrain in IT/ coding? Can you start with some few free resources online to see if it interests you? Python is a good language to start with and is relatively easy.

30 years old. 247 a month. Full time carer to my severely autistic, non verbal 4 year old daughter.

Almost certainly saving the state a good deal of money by doing so. You're welcome, btw, OP.

Not equity; salaried. London based. Appreciate it’s a lot of money and want to make sure my children don’t end up thinking money grows on trees. As my dad says, never look down on people unless you’re helping them up. I try and instil this attitude into my team, especially the juniors who think they’re something special because they’re being paid woefully too much (as am I) for what we do.

What a fantastic attitude you have. 😊

RainLover · 20/11/2022 21:19

Haven’t read the full thread but I really don’t understand the issue on OP. Everyone, and women especially, has a better bargaining position with comparison and context. IRL I completely understand the awkwardness around disclosing salaries, but on an anonymous thread? It can only help! Knowledge is power, you should (want to) know your worth

bringincrazyback · 20/11/2022 21:20

Yoghurtandblueberries · 20/11/2022 19:21

@FayeGovan you are not funny.

Everyone else that clearly don’t want to say this invaluable personal information , you don’t need to post in an aggressive way like you are 5 years old.

I certainly didn’t come here to brag and I think my salary is average.

I think you need a reality check.

Spookysparkles · 20/11/2022 21:21

I get it- salaries are a tricky subject, but I see the OPs sentiment/ intention here.
I find this thread interesting. Women are infamously underpaid in the workplace, and surely open discussion and sharing of information strengthens us to fight this.
There are always going to be people paid more or less than yourself.

Toomanypressie · 20/11/2022 21:21

Also, how can it be showing off on an anonymous thread, showing off to who?!

maddiemookins16mum · 20/11/2022 21:22

No thanks as anyone like me (58 and earning a poor full time wage) just feels even shitter about it than normal.

sentientpuddle · 20/11/2022 21:22

As an opener favoured by disingenuous slimy politicians, you lost me at 'Let's'.

Let's not.

Usernamesarboring · 20/11/2022 21:23

@Twinstudy @Greytea but it could be average in London. If you compare cost of housing, it is relatively much higher in London compared to north and other parts of UK. So just UK average salary mean nothing in this context.

LittleGwyneth · 20/11/2022 21:24

31, £48,000, writer. Feel pretty broke though. Mortgage is enormous.

@viques 🤣🤣 brilliant.

namechangeforthisoneithink · 20/11/2022 21:28

I would like to be able to say what I earn etc but it is very high and I don't want to be accused of bragging. I have so much I need help with in terms of my job and the choices I need to make but they involve the finances and I would need to give some detail but in my rather fragile state I don't want to deal with the inevitable backlash accusations of lies bragging etc. my marriage hangs in the balance, our home and financial security rests almost entirely on me and I am alone in the confusion. Posting here and getting meaningful advice would be amazing. But I won't

Cantstandbullshit · 20/11/2022 21:28

Yazo · 20/11/2022 19:09

Yawn, someone on double an average salary playing a bragging game.

Surprise surprise I'm 39 and like most mums and women am not earning £49k.

Why do you sound so bitter? Lol

amusedbush · 20/11/2022 21:29

32, £34k, non-academic (and fairly niche) role in an FE college.

I see the OP's intention as well. It's clearly not to talk about how women are underpaid in the workplace though. There are some very interesting posts on here from other women discussing/highlighting that, which the OP hasn't bothered to engage or continue to discuss these views with.
