England world cup at school

DC is in primary school and they do not care much for football anyway. As a family, we are boycotting the World Cup as a boycott due to their human right abuses.

We received this email late on Friday from the head:

"I am aware that a number of children will want to watch the England world cup game on Monday. Therefore we will be screening the game in one classroom per year group for those who wish to watch the game and those who do not wish to watch it will undertake alternative activities in the other year group classroom."

So basically they are stopping all teaching for the football.

AIBU to email the head and inform him that I will be picking up DC early if school is not going to teach him anyway?

DS told me they missed PE, which is straight after lunch, due to the football. I’m not impressed.

Are people really taking their children out of school to watch football? I get that schools don't want to have bad attendance so try and counter that but it wouldn't cross my mind that parents would keep children at home to watch it. My ds was at school, definitely didn't watch it, and said everyone was there. I also visited a school yesterday and worked with a year 6 group in the afternoon and didn't notice low numbers.

Some would, yes. Also bear in mind the game was scheduled to finish at about 245 which is after the school run starts for a lot of people. I think individual heads probably have a good idea whether this is liable to come up or not.

You think Poland are going to win? No chance.

Be careful! In the Sixth Form I drew a horse's name for the Grand National that had less than no chance, but it won at 100-1! Dad was so annoyed with me, apparently one should always place a bet on a sweepstake horse!

I feel sorry for any kids who weren't able to watch the match today, they missed a truly momentous occasion.

Certainly a lesson in How Not to Referee a Match, the Iranians forgot they weren't at Twickenham!

I’ve just read they are selling bucket hats for £8! Not going to tel my kids about that 🤬
