DS14’s disgusting music taste

Last night, I heard familiar and awful from DS14’s bedroom. I ran in and asked him what he was listening to. He just said that he was listening to Jack Harlow, which he usually listens to. I decided to check his Spotify earlier today in curiosity and I was right to be suspicious. NIK KERSHAW!!!! he knows how much I hate the man and how much his ‘music’ repulses me. DS14 has never showed any signs of bad music taste before, or at least not anything so repulsive. Also Midge Ure was there.

You got it easy. You don't know when you got it good.

Hahaha hilarious.
My son listens to Luke Coombes, country music star.
Count yourself lucky

Dizzymrslizzy · 18/11/2022 07:28

Sounds like a riddle to me...

My 15 year old likes The Smiths. Depressing or what. I love Nick Kershaw. He is on my play list.

I like your son.

I’m very proud to say I introduced my son to The Smiths a few years ago and get a surge of pride when I hear him listening to them😊

I love it when my DS let's me have a nose at his Spotify playlist. He's got the Beach Boys on there right up to Eminem and Harry Styles.

DesMoulinsRouge · 18/11/2022 07:55

This means nothing to me...

You win the thread.

Brilliant @DrHildegardeLanstrom 😁 applause

Honest thought this was gonna be a thread about really misogynistic or filthy lyrics. Pleasantly surprised at Nik Kershaw. MN approves.

Love threads like this

My DD loves misogynistic gangster rap ( yes I'm aware I sound about 100 years old) count yourself lucky

I thought this was going to be about "Drill Music".

Build a bridge & get over it.

A child of exquisite taste. The Smiths were and are genius.

Don't let the sun go down on this, OP. Get it sorted. Wink

Lampedsomeoiks · 18/11/2022 08:20

I genuinely laughed. What did Nik Kershaw do?

I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy
You don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should
The cold is biting
Through each and every nerve and fiber
My broken spirit is frozen to the core
I don't wanna be here no more

JeanMarie · 18/11/2022 08:30

When my ds was 14 I would have welcomed Nik Kershaw et al. He had just discovered punk....nothing like a blast of Rancid or Exploited to put you off your cornflakes in the morning! 😁 He's now 34, still into punk and plays in a punk band. His dream came true a few months ago when they got to play support for The Exploited at a gig.

Daftasabroom · 18/11/2022 08:43

My DS2 has Phil Collins, German death metal, and Snoop Dog on the SAME playlist.

It's a mad world.

pointythings · 18/11/2022 09:09

My kids love 80s music too (alongside many other things). I blame myself for playing it in the car when I was pregnant.

Oh how they mocked their peers when they 'discovered' Kate Bush on the back of Stranger Things.

It's possible that they might not be all that dissimilar in terms of chord progression etc.

Or maybe they are, and he just has broad, diverse taste. Good for him. There's often a feeling that if you like Music X, you shouldn't like Music Y, even though nobody feels that way about books or art.

vvmums · 18/11/2022 15:57

I’ve had a conversation with DS, he has promised not to listen to it. Thanks MN!

Daftasabroom · 18/11/2022 16:09

@ReneBumsWombats I think it's absolutely great he has such eclectic tastes, we do as a family TBH. DS is a drummer.

Anyway, if I don't crack on we'll be eating air tonight.
