DS14’s disgusting music taste

Last night, I heard familiar and awful from DS14’s bedroom. I ran in and asked him what he was listening to. He just said that he was listening to Jack Harlow, which he usually listens to. I decided to check his Spotify earlier today in curiosity and I was right to be suspicious. NIK KERSHAW!!!! he knows how much I hate the man and how much his ‘music’ repulses me. DS14 has never showed any signs of bad music taste before, or at least not anything so repulsive. Also Midge Ure was there.

What's disgusting about Nik Kershaw? Except, maybe, at a real stretch, his name sort of sounds like it has 'knickers' in it?!

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 17/11/2022 22:58

Would he like to spend his pocket money on my 1980s vinyl?

TinFoilHatty · 17/11/2022 23:02

A fantastic day!

Oh wait, wrong Nick.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 17/11/2022 23:10

Just tell him all the middle aged mummies on mumsnet approve of his musical choices and I almost guarantee you he’ll be onto something else within minutes Wink

vvmums · 17/11/2022 23:12

Going to speak to him about it tomorrow, if I catch him again he’s grounded!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 17/11/2022 23:32

Eclectic taste in music is awesome although, as a child of the 70's and 80's I'd rather listen to ANY decade but those 2.
I never did and never will understand the hype over nik kershaw.

BellePeppa · 17/11/2022 23:35

Think yourself lucky, my son listens to Slipknot 😬

Geppili · 17/11/2022 23:36

Fgs put a trigger warning on this!

BashfulClam · 17/11/2022 23:59

Leave my uncle Midge alone!

Whoopsywoo · 18/11/2022 00:15

You bring them up and sacrifice everything for them then they go and do this you are not being unreasonable

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/11/2022 00:46

Going off somewhat on a tangent, but also linking in with PP's (true) comment about middle-aged mummies' musical preferences probably not endearing teenagers to them, reminds me of this recent news item:

news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/music/newsid_1968000/1968052.stm

*before anybody complains and gainsays me, 2002 IS indeed recent if, like me, you're middle-aged or older Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/11/2022 00:50

Leave my uncle Midge alone!

Sad fan of ultimately-pointless pub-quiz trivia alert: Do you know why Mr Ure is known as 'Midge'?

Chooksnroses · 18/11/2022 01:07

At least he wasn't listening to Phil Collins....

Georgeskitchen · 17/11/2022 22:38

It's surprising how many people who weren't even around in the 80s are totally into 80s music . Best decade by far!!
Has he discovered Rick Astley yet? 😉

My DD (14) is obsessed with Rick Astley, discovered him independently too, nothing to do with me!

Stevie6 · 18/11/2022 01:58

@KateBalesCardi my DS (14) went through a Rick Astley phase a couple years back after he was in Fortnite

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 18/11/2022 02:00

He'll be blasting out The Thompson Twins at full volume come the weekend.

You need to ask yourself where you went wrong.

Belledan1 · 18/11/2022 02:07

My 15 year old likes The Smiths. Depressing or what. I love Nick Kershaw. He is on my play list.

At least he wasn't listening to Phil Collins....

Aww, hell no!
That would be grounds for taking away the Spotify forever!
<shudder>

Maybe the OP's house has a thin wall...

MarmiteyCrumpets · 18/11/2022 06:18

I'd pack him off to Vienna before he turns into a wide by.

Don't be so harsh. It's all part of love's great adventure...

sandgrown · 18/11/2022 06:56

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet I am 65 and I love Lizzo but I also love 70s/80s cheesy music.

Asher33 · 18/11/2022 07:17

Are parents meant to like their children's taste in music? I have to listen to the radio when I'm out with my dad because he hates my taste in music. He once said "as for your taste in music, I have no idea what happened there"

BroomHandledMouser · 18/11/2022 07:20

🤣🤣🤣

this is brilliant!

mogtheexcellent · 18/11/2022 07:23

DD8 decided to belt out Babushka by Kate Bush with accompanying Kate Bush style dance in sainsburys clothing section last weekend.

Im 50 and rarely listen to current music so her musical tastes are very 80s and 90s Grin
