Clean beans v the filthy's

forreal99 · 16/11/2022 22:22

Ok....

Two groups of friends, independent of each other, differing opinions:

Set one (let's call them 'the filthy's')
Belief: Feet are 'self-washing' ie by virtue of just standing in the shower, feet are washed (self cleaned) by the bubbles from shower gel flowing over and around the feet (no interaction required)

Set two - (and we'll call them 'the clean beans')
Belief: feet (and soles of feet and nails) need active washing/cleaning, not just passive bubbles flowing over the top and around

YANBU the clean beans
YABU the filthy's

Why are people putting soap on their genitals?! It’s really not advised. You should only use water.

How come it's water only for genitals which are probably the sweatiest and smelliest and leat hygienic part of the body, but doing the same for your legs - which dont smell at all - is apparently "filthy"?

Water doesn’t get the smell off though? Sometimes one soaping doesn’t get the smell off either and I have to wash twice.

Your poor foof. Like I said I use aqueous cream or E45 wash cream and have a perfectly healthy and un smelly foof.

OneTC · 17/11/2022 12:00

I find people that obsessed with cleanliness a bit suspicious tbh. Grin

I wash every day. I'd wash my feet if they were dirty, say I've been barefoot outside for example but wouldn't wash them in the normal wash - wear clean socks - normal wash cycle

ToastAndJames · 17/11/2022 12:01

Using soap on your foof can disrupt its pH balance, which will make it more smelly not less. Plain water is best. Any products (even those specially designed for it) should be outside only.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 17/11/2022 12:02

In winter I wear clean socks every day, wash my slippers frequently, and am cold most of the time so don't get sweaty feet. I'm with the filthies then.

In the summer, I'm barefoot for months on end and regularly need to scrub mud and grass stains off.

LadyBiker · 17/11/2022 12:04

SheWoreYellow · 16/11/2022 22:25

Hm, I think toes can be quite stuck together, so mine get a quick rub between them. That’s all though, so I guess I’m halfway between.

This just cracked me up!! Feet definitely need washing, especially if toes stuck together!😂

AdoraBell · 17/11/2022 12:05

I’m on the Clean Bean side.

I'm with the filthies. They get sucked clean every Saturday night anyway.

👀

Fergie, is that you?

RandomCatGenerator · 17/11/2022 12:37

I confess I actually love this kind of thread. People get so outraged stating what they believe is fact. And I love the range too.

Would welcome pumice routines and recommendations to keep my feet nice and soft. I am prone to very dry skin especially on my feet which is horrid so always looking for suggestions to improve :)

Runestone · 17/11/2022 12:38

Im an inbetweener on this too. I don't wash them in my daily shower, but I do when I have a bath every 2-3 days (I don't wash my hair in the mornings ever, so do a hair wash, leg shave, foot care etc. night every 2nd or 3rd night for all the things I can't do in a 2-3 minutes morning shower)

Sparklingbrook · 17/11/2022 12:43

It must be the week for competitive hygiene (or lack of) threads.
Do people really discuss this stuff in RL? Cleaning your feet? 🤔

It's probably because they don't, that it gets discussed on here

Wheredoallthepensgo · 17/11/2022 12:56

These threads always make me a little queasy. Feet are one of the sweatiest, smelliest bits of our bodies and are inside socks/shoes all day. Wash your feet properly!

Definitely a Clean Bean here.

The OP appears to have had this conversation with 2 lots of friends…

Wash everywhere, every shower with soap and something like a flannel or exfoliating cloth
I want to clean myself, not just get wet!

I use a microplane foot file (gentle!) on dry feet, then in the shower any exfoliating scrub. After the shower, use a foot cream with urea in it (CCS is one, or flexitol), socks on after that

Beamur · 17/11/2022 13:03

My feet have successfully self cleaned for my whole life without anything terrible happening.

I mean I mentioned this above but I don’t think anyone actually sits in spoons saying ‘do you wash your feet with soap? Let’s have a poll.’

I think what actually happens is that ‘my friends were disagreeing about’ sounds better than ‘I’ve left my journalism work till the last minute and need to hand something in - have a heated discussion about washing feet!’

Sidking · 17/11/2022 13:40

Somewhere in the middle? They get a quick swipe over top and bottom, but I don't stand there balancing on one leg trying to get in between my toes or anything

That with any luck will make it into the Mail or an exciting discussion on Loose Women. 😁

RambamThankyouMam · 17/11/2022 14:02

I'm intrigued why you correctly pluralised Clean Beans but not Filthies.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 17/11/2022 14:07

It partly depends on your feet - I have cold feet and I don't think they have ever been sweaty - so unless I have been out in sandals, my feet really don't need a scrub every day.

walkinthewoodstoday · 17/11/2022 14:34

Depends what you've done. If you shower, dry feet and then put on socks then o don't think they need a full on rub down in the shower. If you've been to the beach or walking barefoot in the garden then yes wash more thoroughly
