To ask what planet some Vinted sellers are on?!

Browsing second hand baby clothes. 3 used sleepsuits from a supermarket chain, listed for £5! Do they realise that once you add the postage cost, you may as well buy new?!

SpinningFloppa · 15/11/2022 21:05

Same with primark stuff I’m looking at, most of it with postage is the same price, I get not everyone can get out to the shops people will say but some on second hand is suppose to be cheaper!

HintofVintagePink · 15/11/2022 21:07

I’ve given up in Vinted a bit now as a seller too. I’m tired of demanding buyers paying pittance for something then getting stroppy when it doesn’t arrive in 2 days like it would if they ordered from an online retailer.

PigLightingBastard · 15/11/2022 21:08

"Great condition"
But also see last photo for massive stain/rip/broken zip.

MyLittleEmu · 15/11/2022 21:11

I've never sold on Vinted but I'm guessing it must be free to list? There is some right old tat on there. I saw a coat that looked like it was covered in marks but it was hard to tell if it was or just reflection from the camera. I liked the make and shape of it so contacted the seller and she was able to confirm it was just covered in mud and nothing to worry about! Honestly, at least have a go at wiping it off....

I have found some decent bargains on there but you do have to search and be quick to grab one if you see it.

WhatHappenedToYoyos · 15/11/2022 21:17

This is a reason I've never bought anything from there as the prices plus postage puts me off. I saw a great pair of new trainers for my DC. Realised that once you added postage, it was more expensive than buying them directly from the retailer via their shop or website?!

Yeah, I got fed up with buyers making ridiculously low offers, like £3 for a pair of unworn New Rock boots that I'd listed for £50. Took the piss.

RambamThankyouMam · 15/11/2022 21:29

Au contraire!

I paid £1.50 for a bundle of gorgeous newborn stuff - about 20 pieces in total, from Boden, Jojo and brands like that.

Well that’s a lie! You can’t offer less then 40%

Not a lie, the potential buyer sent me a message after I turned down her initial offer.

Hellocatshome · 15/11/2022 21:33

It is what it is. There will always be tat on there same as Facebook Marketplace or Ebay. Search for what you want buy it if you think its a decent price move on if not.

Haycorns4Piglet · 15/11/2022 21:34

I was looking for a playmobil hotel - one seller wanted £420!! For a bloody toy!

FlissyPaps · 15/11/2022 21:35

Buy new ones then.

I sell loads on Vinted and Depop and don’t know what planet some buyers are on when they offer silly prices and expect things to be packaged and posted for free.

Pipsickl · 15/11/2022 21:35

I was laughing about Vinted today. I am listing a nice barely used, branded baby item for £2 (bargain even with postage) and someone offered £1.80. Like really? 20p off? On a £2 item 🤣🤣🤣

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/11/2022 21:38

I get cheesed off when I make a bundle of two or three kids t-shirts and the seller then suggests it becomes a medium, or even a large, parcel! I'm trying to SAVE on postage!

I’ve never expected free postage, and I don’t chase up items unless they haven’t arrived after a couple of weeks or so.

But it isn’t rocket science to work out people won’t buy things if, once postage is added, it’s pretty much the same cost as buying new.

I also laugh at the offence some sellers take when you make a reasonable offer. If they have such a personal attachment to their item why are they selling it?!

OP posts:
IncessantNameChanger · 15/11/2022 21:42

It's good value if you bundle it esp kids clothes. I just ignore the very low offers. You have to weight up a stupid offer with the price of petrol to post. You don't make loads but it gets stuff out the door

FlissyPaps · 15/11/2022 21:43

It’s not personal attachment. It’s just wanting to receive a decent amount to be able to package and post it and be left with something.

No point in selling items in return for a couple of quid profit.

What your reasonable may be, could be totally different to a sellers reasonable. If they don’t accept your offer move on and find a different seller.

Cuppasoupmonster · 15/11/2022 21:47

@FlissyPaps well yes but offering £3.50 for a £4 item that has been listed for months? ‘Sorry I really think it’s worth £4’ well maybe but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush surely Confused

OP posts:
Cococomelon · 15/11/2022 21:48

There are Facebook groups about Vinted which can be interesting. I think some people do sell things for silly prices (sometimes more than you can buy for direct from the retailer) but also think people can be cheeky wanting things super cheek. So it goes both ways!

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/11/2022 21:52

I find it strange when a seller lists one boys top, age 9-10 and then the rest of their listing is girls clothes age 5-6. Why one random item in a different sex and size?

But to offer 3.50 on a 4.00 item in the first place!

Just bargaining for the sake of bargaining.

If you think the 0.50 difference makes such a difference that you'd pay at 0.50 less but not at the listed price, surely it follows that the seller can also consider the 0.50 difference significant enough not to want to take 0.50 less?

BlessedMess · 15/11/2022 21:59

I buy quite a bit on Vinted for the little one. I’ve had some good clothes and toys off there but I only buy bundles of brands I know and make liberal use of the search filter to find quality stuff.

What I really don’t get is what the vinted charge does? Luckily I haven’t had to raise owt with them so far. Can vinted really legally say no you can’t get a refund because you haven’t paid us a fee? I thought that sort of thing was covered by distance selling laws? Anyone actually know?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/11/2022 22:01

My friend absolutely raves about Vinted and kept telling me to go on.

I was underwhelmed to say the least.

You can’t return anything and TBH £10 for a dress that might not fit and I can’t return plus postage, I’d rather go to a charity shop and be able to try it on, or go to New Look and pay twice the price

Cuppasoupmonster · 15/11/2022 22:02

But the difference is I have the cash. £3.50 is more useful than an item of high street clothing that’s sat around doing nothing and that nobody else wants to buy.

50p isn’t a lot but I’m skint and it all adds up 🤷🏼‍♀️ people don’t buy on Vinted because they’re minted (hey that rhymes)

Precipice · 15/11/2022 22:09

But the difference is also for the seller. This applies particularly at such low values, much more so than the difference between 19.50 and 20.00. The seller's price includes also having to prepare the item for posting (packaging, tape, printing the label) and take it for posting. Sellers typically have a minimum below which it just doesn't seem worth the faff.
