To ask what planet some Vinted sellers are on?!

Browsing second hand baby clothes. 3 used sleepsuits from a supermarket chain, listed for £5! Do they realise that once you add the postage cost, you may as well buy new?!

I find it strange when a seller lists one boys top, age 9-10 and then the rest of their listing is girls clothes age 5-6. Why one random item in a different sex and size?

Because they can sell whatever they like? … why is that strange?

I sell mostly womens 8/10 sizes and once sold a jacket for my dad. So had 1 mens item in a XL.

If someone told me that was strange I would laugh at them.

Strangeways19 · 15/11/2022 22:20

Yes I know what you mean - this is my default position - I offer low & they refuse. I'm always polite when they make a higher offer back - it's usually "I'm not accepting less than x". I say ok that's too high for me I would go much lower than that, good luck with your sale.
Then they often come back & make a low offer - which I often accept. I'm only going to pay what I think it's worth I don't care what sellers thinks it's worth

Cuppasoupmonster · 15/11/2022 22:21

It doesn’t let you offer less than (I think) 70% of the listed price anyway so no offers can be ridiculous.

I've had some real bargains from Vinted but today I nearly bought a Next boys top that was £3.00, by the time fees and postage was added, I could have bought a new one so I left it. However I did get a rather more expensive sweatshirt for DS that is still in store and that was very cheap in comparison. It's a bit hit and miss.

JasminFloraIrisLilyRose · 15/11/2022 22:27

That's why I don't use Vinted. It's too expensive.

JasminFloraIrisLilyRose · 15/11/2022 22:29

And I don't like the back and fourth bargaining I feel I'm receiving the garment begrudgingly or with negative vibes if I had to offer less and bend their arm a bit but then I don't like haggling full stop.

Roomytrouser · 15/11/2022 22:32

I’ve just got into making offers. I just scrolled passed previously but I’ve been taking a punt. I haven’t found any issues with being declined - a couple of words saying no/suggesting another price. I tend to buy the same type of thing from the same shops and I find Vinted works well in that respect because I know exactly what I’m looking for.

thebellagio · 15/11/2022 22:38

I’ve only just started using it but what I don’t get is why favourite an item that is priced at £1?

im selling a lovely party dress my 7yo has outgrown. 8 people have “favourited” it but it’s only priced at a quid. How low a price do you want something for? I’ve just been seeing things j want for my kid and just buying straight out

I think it’s more of a ‘I don’t need this right now but like it, so will add it to the list in case I want to find it again’ type thing

I've put some superb stuff on Vinted - genuine bargains, selling as I'm moving abroad for a while and need to shed some things to kit myself out with other things more appropriate to new climate. It's preferable to finding storage for my things. Some are new and unworn as I hadn't expected to be selling them. I have sold quite a lot and have quite a lot still to go.Got great feedback.
I do look at some sellers and they can't even be bothered to iron what they are selling - shabby not so chic.
I'm impressed with Vinted and have only encountered one seriously odd customer. There are plenty of safeguards and postage is pretty low, given it's as near as dam it 'home delivery'.

Aixenprov · 15/11/2022 22:44

I once had a dress listed at £1 (was selling a lot of stuff so would take 5-8 parcels to the shop in one go) and someone asked me if they could have it for 50p (not even possible on vinted anyway) since postage was so high (postage was the lowest weight/size available option)......

Because a lot of people are looking to buy more than one item, especially of kids clothes, to make up a bundle from a seller. Postage costs are not worth it otherwise.

I've had some great bargains but I bought a hat that looked lovely in the photo and was delivered the other day.
It had holes and the stitching was coming undone, was full of hair on the inside and was absolutely filthy. I was gagging at the hair.
Sent the seller a message I was furious someone would even send it to someone else's house, she asked me to consider my tone as messages like that could be triggering and she didn't know how the hat got in that state.

MidnightMeltdown · 15/11/2022 22:51

Never used Vinted but have sold clothes on eBay in the past.

Personally, I wouldn't bother to list anything for less that a tenner. Photographing, listing, writing descriptions, packing and taking to the post office is incredibly time consuming

Too many buyers expect you you to do all that for a couple of quid. No thanks.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/11/2022 22:51

This is why I havent listed a few things I want to sell. I have no idea how to price them! I have a v expensive once worn Vivienne Westwood dress.....how on earth do I price that when I have never found another for sale anywhere?!

A brand new Superdry T Shirt which can be priced anywhere between £5 and £40..... but then I see, as the OP said, stuff that I could get new for only a couple of quid more direct from the retailer!

RaininSummer · 15/11/2022 22:51

I have some bargains so far. Never seen anything I want to wear in a charity shop and also don't have time now for non online shopping so love a good Vinted browse. I often favourite things to make my mind up about later rather than impulse buy. I figure its cheap enough that if it doesn't fit i will list to hopefully sell on.

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 15/11/2022 22:53

There are some bargains on there but you have to be quite specific about searches.

what really puts me off is how porny some of the sellers try to be. Like selling jeans and taking a selfie with no top on and sticking their bum out. It means you can’t actually see how clothes hang in any kind of normal way. Only if you stand with that arched back position. Also those photos where they’re half pulling their top up trying to be sexy. It’s so annoying.

SundayAtDevilDirt · 15/11/2022 22:53

I buy the majority of our clothes plus some toys etc from Vinted and have had some great bargains, but do raise my eyebrows at some of the tat some people try to sell at what it would have cost new.

This puts me off as well. I assume there must be some people out there who will pay extra for the “sexy lady top” which the seller is trying to latch on to.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 15/11/2022 23:07

I've had some bargains and been really pleased (autograph wool & cashmere coat BNWT for £35) but then I've just seen a Cos jumper that's on for not much less than the RRP and it's worn rather than BNTW. I'd rather pay full price than save a few quid and risk it being snagged or something.
Suzanne stuff, people sometimes ask for more than it sells for on the sezanne website and it's not even OOS so god knows what planet they're on.

Because a lot of people are looking to buy more than one item, especially of kids clothes, to make up a bundle from a seller. Postage costs are not worth it otherwise.

Vinted is a second hand selling site for clothing, accessories, home wear and electrical goods. It’s not just for “bundles of kids clothes”. There are no rules on how “cheap” you should sell.

If you think someone selling 1 item of a different size and sex to all the others is strange then you need to get out more😂

Ive sold plenty of single items for £20+ As well as standard postage on top of that. I laugh at and will continue to laugh at buyers who think that’s outrageous.

imfreezing · 15/11/2022 23:20

As a buyer and seller I can see both sides, however the seller doesn't make a profit from the postage so I understand why they wouldn't want to sell things for a quid or two. By the time you've driven to the shop and back you've probably spent that on fuel anyway and might as well just give it to the charity shop 🤷🏼‍♀️. It's a catch 22 really.

StoneofDestiny · 16/11/2022 07:21

I agree - the cost of wrapping paper, parcel tape and petrol to get to the parcel point is far more than any postage! I've never sold anything for small amounts under £5, - it's not worth it to me.

PlanBea · 16/11/2022 07:32

I've had a lot of success buying and selling on Vinted, but recently I bought a BNWOT white dress for £5 "never worn" (no haggling, it's what the seller asked for), it was covered in lipstick, sweat stains and had a ripped seam, and it was dry clean only so I couldn't try fixing it myself. Seller got really stroppy that they had paid lots for it new when I complained about the condition. Well, it isn't new any more! I sent it back - at my own cost - and they've relisted it as very good, for £20, and not mentioned any of the damage. Feel sorry for the next buyer 🙄

Sitdownnigel · 16/11/2022 07:46

I’ve just started using Vinted and have bought some amazing clothes at real bargain prices. I think it’s brilliant as a buyer, but barely worth it as a seller………I still give most of my things to charity rather than try to sell things for a quid.
