Are second babies easier?

…In your experience. Just a simple poll!

YABU = no they’re not
YANBU = yes they are

as babies yes.

as anything older than a baby, no.

Oysterbabe · 14/11/2022 21:24

Mine was.

anon2022anon · 14/11/2022 21:27

I think what's important is youre a bit more experienced and confident generally, which makes things normally a bit easier to handle (not counting circumstances such as disability, SEN)

A580Hojas · 14/11/2022 21:29

No.

mamaduckbone · 15/11/2022 22:18

Mine was.

40f · 15/11/2022 22:19

Noooooooo

Zanatdy · 15/11/2022 22:19

Mine wasn’t, but then he had a milk allergy. 18 and at Uni now and never caused me a days trouble as a teen

boogiejive · 15/11/2022 22:19

No. Mine hated being a baby and pretty much screamed for the first several months of his life.

It's all down to the child, not the birth order.

grafittiartist · 15/11/2022 22:20

Mine wasn't.
But then, they don't have you 100 percent like your first does.

autienotnaughty · 15/11/2022 22:21

My third was my hardest (and last!)

BertieBotts · 15/11/2022 22:21

Easier babies are easier.

Coping with a baby is a bit easier the second time because you're experienced and you know what to do, and it doesn't completely change your life like the first one does, assuming that the first one is still fairly little and dependant.

Forever42 · 15/11/2022 22:23

The baby itself is not necessarily easier, but having a second baby is easier as you know what you're doing.

RogueV · 15/11/2022 22:23

Mine was

Pineappleblueberry · 15/11/2022 22:23

Nope but I think you give less of a fuck with a second child and by that I mean not thinking its the end of the world if they've tasted chocolate before the age of 3 or they've eaten jarred baby foods or have a dummy or haven't napped exactly on time or have a slightly later bedtime... I was over the top with my first in hindsight and eith my second I left him to it and he's a much much more relaxed kid but I do admit it could be coincidence.
Me relaxing the rules meant it seemed a lot easier because I was the one making it difficult the first time around.

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 15/11/2022 22:24

Some things are easier as you have more experience but then you realise your experience counts for little as what worked for first born doesn't necessarily work for second.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 15/11/2022 22:29

Easier for me as I knew more what I was doing but as a child goes, NO NO NO.

2nd and last for that reason. 3 years in and an absolute nightmare

Queensize · 15/11/2022 22:30

Ahahahaha yabu

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/11/2022 22:30

Mine was a much better sleeper. Lifesaver

Palmtree9 · 15/11/2022 22:32

It's not an easy straightforward answer though. My second was much harder with feeding and bonding, but easier with napping in cot rather than reliant on being on me...

chantico · 15/11/2022 22:34

It depends

  • easier because I had some idea of how to look after an infant so was far more relaxed about it
  • harder because the DC had completely different temperaments, and the youngest was an utterly appalling sleeper, which wrecked my sleep and made everything harder

Plus of course the more you have, the more that needs to be done to keep the whole show on the road.

Iliketeaagain · 15/11/2022 22:40

As a baby - yes, because you have half an idea of what you are doing so it's less scary.

As soon as they start moving - nope, nope, nope. Constant FOMO, trying to follow the older one, go from crawling to running and climbing without toddling and no fear.. but that's just my experience 😁.

bloodywhitecat · 15/11/2022 22:42

If my second born had been my first they would've been my only born!

No, my second born was very much harder than my first.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/11/2022 22:43

My 1st was a breeze. My 2nd was spawn of the devil (I can say that as they're both teens now and both lovely)

LillyBugg · 15/11/2022 22:43

No. He's the reason I don't have three.

But the actual 'take care of a baby' bit is easier. You know how to do it and you aren't learning it first time over.

But no. No no no no.

fairgame84 · 15/11/2022 22:46

DC1 was a dream.

I'm currently in a living nightmare with DC2.

Never again
