I started my period's when I was 11, terrible cramps and it affected my learning at school, throwing up and passing out.

I have just had a weekend with cramps and feeling like shit, when will it end 😂

what’s your AIBU

BlancmanegeBunny · 13/11/2022 19:51

I'm 55 and feel exactly the same!!!!
Enough is enough!!!
To add insult to injury I have had regular periods for the last few years after never having regular periods in my life!!

Rubblefish · 13/11/2022 19:55

My AIBU is I hate periods

IDinnaKen · 13/11/2022 19:56

That must be highly infuriating. Surely the end must be near aged 50.
Any signs of the menopause?

Rubblefish · 13/11/2022 20:19

Yeah hot flushes, and I have added plus of morning sickness which is the oestrogen levels going down but as I am still having periods, I don't tick the menopause box

I'm with you. 50 this year.
My periods were awful until I had kids, then sporadic because of stress. Now they're unpredictable.
I'm living in hope that I'm starting the menopause.

mrsbitaly · 13/11/2022 20:21

When I had the implant in my arm I didn't have any periods at all. Can the doctor not give you medicine to stop periods I'm sure there is medication for it as people use it for special occasions but I'm not sure long term? You really shouldn't have to suffer please speak to your doctor for options.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 13/11/2022 20:22

Oh and I can't use any hormone replacement because I'm prone to blood clots.😪

LarkRize · 13/11/2022 20:23

I hear you - 52 here and suspect they are tailing off but still making regular appearances…you’d think they would know they are not welcome…

Chocolatefrenzy · 13/11/2022 20:23

I'm 53 and still have monthly periods. Also getting the start of peri I think. Overwhelming fatigue and anxiety which I didn't have before. Oh the joys of being a woman!

Hankunamatata · 13/11/2022 20:25

I ended up having mirena fitted when hit peri menopause in 40s. I tried hrt patches and my periods went haywire. Never thought have mirena but it's worked out well and wish had it years before. Still use estrogen medication to keep hot flushes at bay.

Panicmode1 · 13/11/2022 20:25

I said exactly this to DH this morning. SO sick of them. Started when I was 10, regular as clockwork ever since. Now 49 and no peri/menopausal symptoms or signs of them stopping...what IS the point! Make. Them. Stop!! 😉😂

Meredusoleil · 13/11/2022 20:26

I am 47 and started my period at 10. I'm so done with this monthly nightmare. Also prone to fainting in my youth. Recently diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia. Still have to take tranexamic acid for a few days along with pain killers as my flow us so heavy. I feel your pain OP 😞

Windyone · 13/11/2022 20:26

I first had a Mirena 10 years ago. I’ve not had a period since. It’s been amazing.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2022 20:26

It’s literally in the thread title.

Gp said the same for friend. When she spoke to menopause specialist the gp was wrong. Might be worth double checking

I first had a Mirena 10 years ago. I’ve not had a period since. It’s been amazing.

I was recommended the mirena by a gynaecologist a few years ago to help with my heavy glow. But after hearing too many horror stories of them being painful to insert, hard to remove and migrating into other organs (like one of my sterilisation clips has), I was too put off having one!

Hamserfan · 13/11/2022 20:29

@Rubblefish I hear you. 55 here and periods currently every 3 weeks or so. Started when I was 10 🙄 So fed up simultaneously low enough oestrogen to give troublesome vaginal symptoms, dreadful anxiety AND high enough oestrogen to maintain those periods 🤬

Badger1970 · 13/11/2022 20:29

Same here. I'm 52, and am frankly bored to hell with them. No signs of menopause other than the odd night sweat but then again I'm diabetic so it could equally be that.

ThreeblackCats · 13/11/2022 20:30

Get a Marina coil fitted. Maybe 3 months of periods then nothing. You’ll hit the menopause before you need to change it.
best thing I ever did when it came to my periods.

QueenOfTheMetaverse · 13/11/2022 20:30

I couldn't agree more. I'm the same age and started my periods at the same age as you.

I've had enough of them. For good measure I've started getting menstrual migraines again too.

I tried the mirena coil and I had an allergic reaction to the hormones. FML as the kids would say!

My womb serves no purpose now. If it wasn't a major op, I would happily remove it myself.

chocolatenutcase · 13/11/2022 20:31

Hello
Just some useful information to dispel a few myths

  1. You can have HRT before you stop your periods. You don't need to suffer through years of the peri menopause before you start it.
  2. You can have HRT if you have had blood clots. It used to be the case you couldn't but the newer transdermal (gel spray and patches) HRTs don't increase risk of blood clots.
  3. You can have HRT with a family history of breast cancer. Transdermal again is best.
  4. Mirena coil for many women stops periods and is great as part of HRT

This website and app has everything you need to know about the peri menopause and menopause.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2022 20:33

I can’t wait for mine to stop. It’s all so unnecessary now.

itsnotdeep · 13/11/2022 20:33

At your age you can still have HRT OP which will take away all those symptoms whatever your oestrogen levels look like.

And to the pp with the risk of blood clots - I don't think there is a risk now - I have had a blood clot and am allowed to take HRT. Check with a specialist rather than your GP, they will know better.

I'm still having regular periods too at 52!

Ponks · 13/11/2022 20:34

Me too. In my 50s and still have periods every 3.5 weeks. Thought they would be long gone by now. Only good thing is they aren't so painful now.
