I started my period's when I was 11, terrible cramps and it affected my learning at school, throwing up and passing out.

I have just had a weekend with cramps and feeling like shit, when will it end 😂

Mine stopped abruptly at 55.😵‍💫

Harrysnippleno3 · 14/11/2022 15:59

YABU not to have used any of the options which can prevent them.

juliej00ls · 14/11/2022 18:05

@FilthyforFirth it was pretty quick. I took a day at home off work but was ok to go out with friends the next day in the evening. A little tired and grumpy. I didn’t need anything stronger then parecetomol

Floatyflip · 14/11/2022 18:17

Just go on the pill. Really not that difficult

Not really. None of them are ideal. I wouldn't want to use hormonal contraception and haven't except for 18 months in my 20s. I wouldn't use either a Mirena or a copper coil in case it didn't work/gave me problems and then the doctor refused to remove it, which appears to be very common.

No, I'll just do the odd extra washing load and whinge a bit. Also saves trying to get an appointment with a GP who will fob me off in the vanishingly unlikely scenario that I actually get one.

I would if they would let me!

Combined pill agreed with me for many years. Probably from 17 until 39 minus the years I was trying to conceive and pregnant, so about 2 years. That makes about 20 years lol.

Shame the mini-pill was an absolute horror. Otherwise could have still been on that now 🤷

Who isn’t letting you?

you can get it privately through Lloyds ffs

Neither are OP periods though...

The nurses said I had too many factors against me: BP up and down, overweight, older than 35. They advised I look to longer term contraception, which is when I got sterilised. Little did I know that would come back to bite me on the bum too 😬

Seasidegirl5 · 14/11/2022 18:48

I'm 40, but I take the mini pill for Contraception. It's completely stopped my period. I fully intend to take them until I'm 55 where I hope they may never restart!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 14/11/2022 18:53

I had the Mirena to stop my periods. Loved it. On my second one now (52) supplementing with eostrogel as maybe I'm moving into menopause.

nowtherearethree · 14/11/2022 19:07

My periods arrived very heavily every month. At 57 it was discovered I had fibroids. I had a hysterectomy two years ago no bleeding now

Bumzoo · 14/11/2022 19:47

Me too. I've stopped taking the pill too. I'm hoping I'm too old to get pregnant...

emmathedilemma · 14/11/2022 19:53

YANBU I’m only 45 and I am so over this!! Been suffering for the last 5 years or so with heavy bleeding due to fibroids (now treated), tried all sorts of things prior to that surgery which all made it worse, now that’s calmed down im either peri menopausal or slowly loosing the plot but really scared of HRt given how I reacted to the pill and mirena.

MunchMunch · 14/11/2022 23:21

Back in June I was sent for the two week urgent referral (turned out there's no cancer!) and was told by the consultant I could have a coil fitted to stop my heavy periods that were now going from monthly to fortnightly, while they were already down there getting a swab. For some reason they couldn't get my cervix to open up even using callipers didn't help and he said I could have it put in under general anaesthetic or go on the Progesterone only Pill (POP) which I've been on ever since and have had no more periods! It's been absolute bliss, shame I'd just had £130's worth of period pants delivered about a week before I went on the POP 🤦‍♀️ at least they are also good for bladder leaks...

Thomasina79 · 14/11/2022 23:27

I felt exactly the same when I was your ago (66 now). Terrible bleeding lasting for several weeks, heavy, clots etc with only a week or so of non bleeding in between. What really helped me was laser treatment when they removed the lining of the womb. Instant relief from symptoms! Also from the depression caused by the bleeding. I had to sign a form recognising the fact I could have no more children afterwards.fine by me at 53! You don’t need to suffer like this

LBFseBrom · 14/11/2022 23:56

I felt the same at fifty but periods stopped when I was 51.5. It will happen op, don't despair.

MargaretThursday · 15/11/2022 00:24

I'm mid 40scand can't wait for them to stop. I always had long cycles (35' - 42 days) now they're often as short as 20 days. Grrr

lightisnotwhite · 15/11/2022 00:32

Mines just stopped for two months! No idea if they will start up again but I am quiet excited.
Only problem is my hair falling out now. …
Being female really sucks.

Ericaequites · 15/11/2022 00:46

I’m 52, and more regular than the local train service,. My sister and mother had finished by this age. A few years ago, I joked with a septuagenarian lesbian friend that I would be happy to pass on my period to a twelve year old who couldn’t wait to start. She replied, “And what did that twelve year old ever do to you?” I’m so sick of the exhausting, stained sheets, and black misery. HRT is not for me because I take conflicting medication.

allswellthatends · 15/11/2022 03:26

I feel your pain, OP. I'm 57, I have a mirena coil, I was infertile so it turned out even regular periods didn't mean I was ovulating, and yet still I bleed every month. I am so over this rubbish about how regular periods are a sign my body is healthy. All I want for Christmas is a MENOPAUSE

Cameleongirl · 15/11/2022 03:34

My womb serves no purpose now. If it wasn't a major op, I would happily remove it myself. 🤣🤣
I feel the same, @QueenOfTheMetaverse , I don’t want or need the bloody thing anymore!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/11/2022 03:48

I'm 56 and still having periods. I'm.totally fed up with them. They are slightly erratic, so I'm hoping that is a sign of peri menopause, but I have no other symptoms.

The only saving grace is that they aren't painful.

CheapWine · 15/11/2022 04:36

The flooding towards the end was the part for me that made me think, I just can’t do this anymore. Fortunately mine eventually dried up around 53 after years of excruciating pain and period every 23 days throughout my contraceptive free reproductive life.

It is lovely to not have to consider them. Hope it happens soon OP.

Yes, we really should get rid once we don't need it anymore. It would reduce the risk of cancer later on too, if it's not there, it can't get cancerous.
