I started my period's when I was 11, terrible cramps and it affected my learning at school, throwing up and passing out.

I have just had a weekend with cramps and feeling like shit, when will it end 😂

OP posts:
Seasider2017 · 13/11/2022 21:40

I was exactly the same, period started age 11 .
I was forever having cramps and fainting every month.
At 17 I went on the pill so much better.

I couldn’t wait till my period finished not because of pain or anything. I didn’t want the bleed

Aged 52 period were hit and miss. Then 2 year without any periods
I thought perimenopause was hit & miss with symptoms but Menopause is WORSE
Everyday, you don’t know what mood your going to be in
miserable, angry, snappy, no sleep, exhausted
oh and nit to mention the aches and pains 🤦‍♀️

Give me periods

MarshaMelrose · 13/11/2022 21:43

I had awful periods. Passing out and throwing up. I sailed through menopause with no symptoms except occasional feeling hot when I get stressed. Lol.
I absolutely love not having periods. I well earned an easy menopause.

iammother · 13/11/2022 21:44

Any posters who have had the mirena... did it get rid of menstrual migraines?

AnnaMagnani · 13/11/2022 21:47

Im 49 and have no idea what my periods are doing as the Mini Pill stops them anyway. So how am i supposed to know whats going on.

Same! No idea what is happening with my periods but OMG I know I'm peri.

Talked to my GP about this and he said 'so your periods have stopped so you are in menopause' despite me saying repeatedly I haven't had a period in 20 years due to the minipill.

I gave up and saw a menopause specialist. Now on HRT as well as the minipill, literally 2 days in I think it's making a difference.

Want2beme · 13/11/2022 21:51

56 and haven't had a period for 5 months. This happened before about a year ago, then they started up again. Hopefully, this'll be the end of it for me. I've never had problems with periods. They got heavier in the last few years, but no pains.

Hot flushes came & went and I haven't had them for a while now, thank goodness.

No trouble sleeping, but I am known for being able to sleep through thunderstorms, etcGrin

GP told me I don't need HRT and I didn't question it, but I'll look into that.

Brain fog is my problem. I can't believe how absent-minded I've become.

I said exactly this to DH this morning. SO sick of them. Started when I was 10, regular as clockwork ever since. Now 49 and no peri/menopausal symptoms or signs of them stopping...what IS the point! Make. Them. Stop!! 😉😂

Same here, started at 10 & no sign of let up, regular as clockwork every fucking 23 days. Im 49 & absolutely raging I still have to put up with this!

My AIBU is I hate periods

er…

MyLittleEmu · 13/11/2022 22:17

@iammother yes, it did for me. I still get a bit headachey once a month but nothing on the scale I used to before the mirena. A couple of paracetamol sorts it out. I used to have to go to bed in a dark room for 2 days. Plus no more cramps, nausea, feeling completely crap around my period. I had the coil fitted when I was 44. Life changer. I love it. I am 51 now and use it in conjunction with HRT oestrogen patches for menopause symptoms.

FourChimneys · 13/11/2022 22:24

You have my sympathy OP. One of the best things about being older (and believe me there are many good things) is not having periods.

I hope yours stop in a trouble free way soon.

Legallypinkish · 13/11/2022 22:26

Mine suddenly stopped without warning or any other menopause symptoms at 46. So there’s hope !

It has really helped. I averaged at least one a week that only responded to sumatriptan and day in bed. Had mirena fitted june and kept taking oestrogen too and Iv only had one since and that was due to onset of flu.

Brigante9 · 13/11/2022 23:10

Go to a sexual health clinic, probably easier to get an appointment and tell them you want the progesterone only pill. Boom, no more periods. Bloody bliss.

iammother · 13/11/2022 23:11

That's so interesting @Hankunamatata @MyLittleEmu thank you for replying... I'm the same, awful grotty head for 3 days each month, sumitriptan to try to nip it in the bud but always feel awful. I'm so over it.

I'm worried about side effects or feeling it during sex though... the thought of the strings make me feel queasy.

I'm only period 2 in after the birth of DS though.

therarebear · 13/11/2022 23:20

I'm 49 with regular periods and no sign (I don't think) of peri menopause. Earlier this year I went on holiday for 7 weeks and couldn't bear the thought of having periods when I was away, as they're so messy and uncomfortable. Asked the GP and was given the mini pill. I loved not having periods so much that when I was back I asked to continue the prescription and I've not had a period now for 5 months and it's SO amazing not dreading something every 4 weeks.

Twospaniels · 14/11/2022 07:17

Cassillero · 13/11/2022 21:22

I feel your pain. Also 50 and have horrible heavy periods full of massive clots that resemble offal. Still regular as clockwork, but much much heavier. Just had to bin yet another set of bed linen due to flooding at night despite using super plus tampons and massive night pads. I can guarantee every single holiday I'll get my period so can't go swimming either.

I had periods like this - once flooding out on a country walk and was about 2 miles from the car!
Anyway, that’s when I decided enough was enough and went to the doctor and started HRT. So although at nearly 56 I am still blleding, they are much reduced.
Also at that time I got sent for an ultrasound scan which revealed a couple of small fibroids which they have left, and also a polyp which was removed.
Ask for an appot at your GP with a doctor who knows something about menopause and HRT.

BigFishontheTelly · 14/11/2022 10:08

YANBU, periods are shit

MyLittleEmu · 14/11/2022 10:29

@iammother the strings have never been a problem for me. It's never been noticed! If you don't get along with it for whatever reason it's really easy and painless to have it removed. Might be worth giving it a go? You will be a few years off the perimenopause I'm sure, but it's been a lot easier with HRT to already have the progresterone element sorted as all I have to worry about is putting patches on.

BloodyHellKen · 14/11/2022 10:36

To everyone still suffering with periods please don't think they will tail off gradually for years and be a massive PITA. My experience was very different.

I had regular periods until I was 52 often with accompanying monthly migraines. Then they just stopped, had one period 6 months later and then they stopped for good. No hot flushes/rage/anxiety/sleep problems etc that I read about on MN. It's great not having periods anymore!!

I assume there must be lots of women in the same boat as me but you just don't hear about the good experiences so take heart, you might experience the same :)

MrsVeryTired · 14/11/2022 10:38

I'm on the mini-pill, its fab! No periods and no pmt etc, should have gone on it years ago.

FilthyforFirth · 14/11/2022 12:06

Thanks @notvirginiawoolf Do you mind me asking, what was the recovery like? Since I am a day patient I assumed little to no recovery. But my youngest turns 2 on Friday and we were going to take him to a trampoline place. Will I be up for it or no chance?! The nurse looked horrified when I asked her at pre-op today!

iammother · 14/11/2022 14:33

@MyLittleEmu thank you for replying... I'm about to turn 42 to a little way off I hope but I'm already so done with it all! I just get a bit squeamish at the though of something foreign in there! And the pain of insertion 😬

That is so reassuring to hear - praying for something similar!

(Am assuming from your username, you are glued to Monday nights' new offering from Danny Robins?!)

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 14/11/2022 15:37

I sympathise/ I started having terribly heavy and long periods, when I was 52. After years of tests, scans, womb biopsies, tablets, it all stopped - at the age of 59 1/2!

Ask your GP about Noresthiserone

tootiredtobother · 14/11/2022 15:41

push for whatever the modern version of a Microwave ablation is, best thing I ever did (heavy periods)

@Panicmode1 Yes, I love it. I'm not sure if I'm a 100% believer, but I find the whole subject fascinating :)
