How could this have happened?! Trigger warning - child / animal neglect

I don't usually post links to articles - please delete if not allowed.

This made me so angry and upset. How and why can this happen??

This couple claimed 7k per month in benefits yet seriously neglected 7 children and 36 dogs. This is disgraceful. One child had to have all their teeth removed under general anaesthetic as they were so decayed. Another child discouraged from attending school and made to look after the others. A child found covered in animal faeces next to a deceased dog. Utterly heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating at the same time.

I don't know what I'm posting for, I'm just upset and angry. Why did this happen? They can't exactly claim poverty on 7k per month, so why were these children not provided for?? Are they just selfish / evil people?!

@Tigofigo

Oh for god sake! Stop looking for hidden meanings and reasons to be offended.

Where have I said "poverty goes hand in hand with neglect"?? Literally nowhere. Stop making things up.

I've said that this particular family were clearly at least financially so, able to provide better. They had the means to do so. Yet they didn't. Why?

I'm not looking for hidden reasons or meaning.

Everyone is bringing up the £7k benefits and saying they could afford a cleaner etc. But actually it takes very little money to meet a child's basic needs.

The fact is, for whatever reason the parents were incapable of giving a shit. The money isn't relevant to that. If they had fuck all £ you'd still be well within your rights to ask why and how did this happen.

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:43

@Tigofigo

Right ... and I don't disagree with anything you've said there.

The part I took issue with is, was you implying that I've equated poverty with child neglect.

Nowhere have I done that. And I wouldn't be so narrow minded to do so.

Why is anyone even looking? Feels a bit like a witch hunt.

She is a witch? Honestly, what do you mean witch hunt, they're both wicked people

Her Facebook profile has a picture of the backs of some of the DC in the street, one of them clearly has a very full nappy on.

The £7k is obviously from UC and disability benefits. There is no cap if there is a disabled child in the household.

My first thought on reading this was on £7k a month, they could surely afford a cleaner a few times a week and they could have got SS to send in carers in to help if all or most of the DC had disabilities. Seems strange they didn’t have a disability SW at least? Much cheaper to keep them together at home rather being in care like they will be now. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

The sentence is outrageous. The suffering of those children will be with them for life.

It's a very high bar to get a disability sw for a child. You need to have overnight care needs now where I live. My child's dsw doesn't follow the 12 weekly CIN meetings, doesn't come round the house much, doesn't see my child. Never without ample warning. It would be extremely easy to hide neglect from her because there is no genuine interest in my child. It's just a process to the SW. She's seen evidence I had a suspected serious health condition and three times have called MASH in tears saying I can't cope. None of these calls are ever followed up. I could hide all sorts from her because she see what she needs to see. A mum that functions in that role. To see another else would trigger resourses that she can't provide.

I'm I no way excusing these vile parents btw. But I can see how these kids keep on dieing on SW watch. They only look with their hands over their eyes.

Hellybelly84 · 13/11/2022 21:47

Absolutely disgusting excuse for human beings. Taking aside the fact that they are child/animal abusers and there are no words strong enough for them…how does anyone get 7K a month in benefits? Am I missing something as I thought we are constantly told people on benefits cant afford to eat or heat their homes??? How can 7K a month ever be allowed in any circumstances?

Back to getting ready for a week at work for us…🙄

You would be naive to think anyone is looking at her FB profile to get an idea of the person she is. I would bet a ton that people will be sending her vile PMs too.

XenoBitch · 13/11/2022 21:12

How do you know why they were entitled to £7k in benefits per month?

Benefits are never a lifestyle choice, despite what the Daily Mail and red tops are trying to tell you. Anyone on a high rate of benefits will be on such a large amount due to illness/disability.

Surely if they had multiple children on high rate disability benefit, there would be a high level of outside agency involvement? They'd have to attend medical appointments at the very least and flags would be raised there?

play017 · 13/11/2022 21:50

Her Facebook seems to imply that she's still in touch with her kids but surely she can't have? I'm a bit confused on the timeline as I thought the kids were taken into care

PurpleWisteria1 · 13/11/2022 21:51

XenoBitch · 13/11/2022 19:25

Yes, on the other thread it was deemed "relevant" as it was implied only people on benefits abuse their kids/pets.

I give it a couple of pages before someone says £7k it is too much, and that there should be "checks".

Do you think it’s ok for someone on Benefits to own 35 dogs then? Yes of course there should be bloody checks for that much free money ffs

Leah5678 · 13/11/2022 21:53

Their income isn't relavant because I know very poor families who keep their children clean and well cared for.

So? She deserves vile PM’s. She severely abused and neglected 8
children and 35 dogs. A lifetime of abuse for her would be too little.

thebestcestmoi · 13/11/2022 21:55

I just had a look at one of her FB profiles and photos from a couple of years ago show the house in the background looking tidy and clean, kids seem cared for (?) to the extent a quick view of Facebook can tell you anyway... Wonder when/why it all went wrong??

Even if this is true, I wouldn't worry about her feelings being hurt as she won't be reading them in prison, will she. And in all honestly I'm struggling to muster any empathy for her even if she did read vile messages from people. It might just be me but I struggle to find empathy for people who intentionally harm children and animals 🤷‍♀️

Yes it does really. If you don’t work for money then it’s free. Statement of pure fact.
Not saying someone doesn’t deserve free money of course as many do. But it’s still free money.

Not necessarily.

My DS (4.5) is severely autistic and we receive the highest rate of DLA for him. He hasn't seen his paediatrician in person for almost three years. Every appointment has been over the phone.

He's extremely well cared for and loved but if he wasn't he could absolutely slip through the cracks.

Sadly there just isn't the supervison you'd hope would be there when it comes to our most vulnerable children.

UthredofBattenberg · 13/11/2022 21:59

The 7k a month is relevant. Very very few people are able to earn that amount in a job. Most benefits are pitiful and lots of families who are doing their damn best on benefits literally hand to mouth.

Seriously, what the fuck were they spending 7k a month on??!! How is anyone entitled to that kind of money?!

How awful the children and pets didn't get to see even a 10th of that to make sure they had the essentials. Just awful.

SillieSarah · 13/11/2022 22:00

How did they get £80k a year in benefits? Sounds a bit too much

IIRC one of the articles said 5 of the 7 children received DLA. Not sure if that would bump it up significantly?

I know someone that worked with this family many years ago. They were raising safeguarding concerns then.
They would take the kids out if school and say they were being homeschooled as the school wasn’t meeting their needs.
So many issues.
I’ve looked at her Facebook page, she is being supported by friends. I could not be friends with a woman like this.

Wealthy people abuse and neglect children too.

There are complete and utter arseholes in every strata of society.

To be fair at £7k a month income after tax these people were wealthy. Yet they neglected their children and pets terribly

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:38

Yes I also noticed the little one with the very full nappy. 😥

I saw that too.

I can't understand why she would even take that photo, let alone post it on social media.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/11/2022 22:11

The neighbors did report the dogs, she is banned from having dogs. No idea about the DC. And agree too much emphasis on the claiming of benefits, very upsetting

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 22:13

Seriously, what the fuck were they spending 7k a month on??!!

No idea, but evidently it wasn't on ensuring their children or pets were appropriately cared for.
