How could this have happened?! Trigger warning - child / animal neglect

I don't usually post links to articles - please delete if not allowed.

This made me so angry and upset. How and why can this happen??

This couple claimed 7k per month in benefits yet seriously neglected 7 children and 36 dogs. This is disgraceful. One child had to have all their teeth removed under general anaesthetic as they were so decayed. Another child discouraged from attending school and made to look after the others. A child found covered in animal faeces next to a deceased dog. Utterly heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating at the same time.

I don't know what I'm posting for, I'm just upset and angry. Why did this happen? They can't exactly claim poverty on 7k per month, so why were these children not provided for?? Are they just selfish / evil people?!

How the absolute fuck did no one think to investigate what the hell they were spending tax payers money on? Absolutely sickening, those poor kids, and those poor animals. I hope those absolute scumbags get their due in prison!

I’m sure social services will learn lessons and this will never happen again, cough Baby P, cough cough Victoria Climbié, cough Star Hobson, Logan Mwangi.

Social workers are not fit for purpose and they never learn, but I’m sure they all gave great pensions.

I'm no great fan of Social Workers but they are between a rock and a hard place. So many people have said that a family in receipt of benefits should not have to account for how that's spent, if Social Workers were able to ask Why are your children neglected when the State pays you £X per week? then we may see fewer examples like this. If we want it to stop things like this happening then we need to give the Social Workers etc the authority to check on families and that includes how benefits are being spent.

This woman apparently runs a dance school? I hope she doesn't any longer!

BakedBeeeeans · 13/11/2022 20:49

There's plenty of drug addicts who look after their children well. Addiction and child neglect aren't synonymous. This was a failing from many angles. One child discouraged from school, where was the safe guarding for that from the school? Clearly they'd not had any medical care for some time, again why wasn't this high lighted? If they claimed DLA there will have had to have been appointments, not just one, with professionals. Why didn't they notice? Regardless of 7k a year or 100k a year this hasn't happened in a vacuum

GoodnightGentleBoris · 13/11/2022 20:52

My gosh what an awful case. I can’t understand how her FB is so normal and yet the case is so shocking

Topsyturvy78 · 13/11/2022 20:52

Yes I seen this the other day. It's hard to believe this goes in in the 21st century but it does. I had to stop reading I felt sick. Any foster carer will tell you the state some children arrive in.

Lockdown made it easier for neglect to go unnoticed. But these children never went to school. I'm assuming they were born in a hospital. So was there not midwife and health visitors visiting?

PurpleButterflyWings · 13/11/2022 20:59

@ljs22 and @XenoBitch thanks for that information. Still a bit annoying to see so many posts 'withdrawn.' Weird that this poster claimed to be involved! The information helps though thank you. Smile

marvellousmaple · 13/11/2022 21:01

I can't see her facebook. Is it gone now?

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:04

@marvellousmaple

No her Facebook is still there. She seems to have 2 profiles.

It doesn't matter how much money they had. Abusive people will abuse.

They’re pathetic excuses for human beings.

But even if being on benefits was not relevant to how their children were treated, nobody should be in a position. Where they are earning7000 a month on benefits. That’s equivolent to around 10 grand a month given they don’t pay tax or NI.

These people were able to have benefits as a lifestyle choice, didn’t send their children to school, and this is why so many people question the benefits system as well as the ability for people to home educate.

There needs to be a register for home educators, and children should be checked on regularly. Once a term at the bear minimum. Then these kinds of cases would be less.

Midnightsbecomemyafternoons · 13/11/2022 21:12

What Facebook profile are people looking at? The only one that is open at all is one from years ago with no profile picture and a load of whinging statuses about her ex.

I can see one with her face as a pfp but there's nothing public on the wall.

How do you know why they were entitled to £7k in benefits per month?

Benefits are never a lifestyle choice, despite what the Daily Mail and red tops are trying to tell you. Anyone on a high rate of benefits will be on such a large amount due to illness/disability.

I agree entirely nobody ever checks on these children. There should be checks even to make sure the children are being educated as well as safeguarding.

Why is anyone even looking? Feels a bit like a witch hunt

Because when people do evil, cuntish, unimaginable things to helpless children, normal people with empathy and compassion struggle to understand and make sense of why or how anyone could even think these things let alone do them. So people are curious to know - how did this happen? Why?? Did this woman present herself as normal to the outside world despite horrifically neglecting her children? Or were there clues on her social media? Etc ...

Most people are horrified about cases like this and naturally try to make sense of them. Hence my original post. And hence people's natural intrigue around her social media.

Nothing to do with a witch hunt.

Her Facebook profile has a picture of the backs of some of the DC in the street, one of them clearly has a very full nappy on.

The £7k is obviously from UC and disability benefits. There is no cap if there is a disabled child in the household.

My first thought on reading this was on £7k a month, they could surely afford a cleaner a few times a week and they could have got SS to send in carers in to help if all or most of the DC had disabilities. Seems strange they didn’t have a disability SW at least? Much cheaper to keep them together at home rather being in care like they will be now. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

The sentence is outrageous. The suffering of those children will be with them for life.

Tigofigo · 13/11/2022 21:32

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 19:19

@UpTheAnte

Exactly! I don't care if they gained their income from the state or from their 120k a year jobs. Why and how did this happen when they were able to provide so much better?!

I think you perhaps don't realise how offensive this is, insinuating that not clearing up faeces, allowing dead animals to litter your home, not teaching your children how to do basic self care or to help them with it, not sending your children to school etc etc goes hand in hand with poverty.

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:34

@Tigofigo

Oh for god sake! Stop looking for hidden meanings and reasons to be offended.

Where have I said "poverty goes hand in hand with neglect"?? Literally nowhere. Stop making things up.

I've said that this particular family were clearly at least financially so, able to provide better. They had the means to do so. Yet they didn't. Why?

OP posts:
ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:37

The point is - a lower earning family on the poverty line might struggle to provide financially for their kids and to make a better life for them, despite their very best efforts. Note that I said might - not always. In those cases, you might be able to get your head around it a bit more, and understand why and how things could get so bad.

But none of that even applies to this family. They had the means to provide, they just chose not to. That's fucking disgraceful.

I noticed that too.

I agree with PP about how she seemed like a really involved/proud parent going by her social media. It just goes to show how social media is full of complete BS and isn't to be believed.

Those poor children.

ljs22 · 13/11/2022 21:38

Yes I also noticed the little one with the very full nappy. 😥
