reborn dolls

Apologies if there's been a thread on this already but has anyone seen this reborn doll stuff on tiktok? Also don't flame me for this it's just for a chat and some understanding

There's a girl on there who bases her life around her "babies" but they are dolls. She posts hauls of stuff she's bought for them, forever showing us the sleepsuits, mittens, dummies, hats, bibs, bottles, the lot, and doing "day in the lifes" of her being being a full time mum with naps and feeding and crying and day trips out and I can't get my head around the way she spends all her money on babies that aren't real

The biggest problem that she is being called out for a lot is her use of formula, she buys tubs of formula, makes bottles with them and she's called out for taking formula away from the real babies that rely on it, and she also uses breast milk bags, which I hear are in short supply

Another reason she's not very popular is she's claiming that her doctor has given her medication to induce lactation, which I'm sure would never happen, there is no reason to do this, she doesn't have kids she is not pregnant so I'm sure it wouldn't be true

I know reborn dolls are useful and help people mentally when it comes to baby losses, don't get me wrong I have personally lost two babies this year so I understand the need to maybe replace the loss with a doll, however I don't see how this can't be a big mental issue, in her mind she is a mum, she has children, surely this is not normal

I really just can't get my head around it

It seems odd to me, but people on the internet do all sorts of weird things. I am not sure this is especially worse.

Cherrytree77 · 22/11/2022 10:06

She clearly is lacking real life support and no doubt has low IQ/mental health problems. She doesnt even have a reborn doll, it looks like something from Chad Valley.

What this does show is that social media gives people the ability to display their illness and lays them open to negative attention.

Whats that other woman on Tik Tok who is always walking around London screaming ROOTS? at people. Same thing.

Changeyncchange · 22/11/2022 10:28

What is happening to that young girl is vile.

I saw this on TikTok and watched all of her videos (I am stupid). She clearly made something silly up to reinforce her fantasy. She was on the defensive after being
attacked. She is young and vulnerable and silly. She obviously saw the reams of Reborn tiktokkers who are very popular and followed suit.

People are now villifying her for lying about having a stillbirth. Nobody can produce evidence that she said this but the mob don't care. Having watched all her content I haven't seem her say this. I actually think I know where this rumour has come from but it's too convoluted to explain.

Also she appears to have bounced from one serious relationship with a much older man directly into another.

Falling down this rabbit hole really opened my eyes to how utterly vile online mobs are, especially when they think they are just. I'm not niave, I've seen what people have done to JKR, Diane Abbot etc but at least there is some sort of principle at play there were the mobs can try and justify their behaviour (to be clear it's still not justified). This just hits different because the "harm" this young girl is causing is negligible if it even exists at all (it's much more likely she is lying about buying formula regulary) and yet people are doing mental gymnastics to justify their bullying.

Pretty sure she is only about 18 but I could be wrong. I'm positive she said they started their relationship when she was 15.

She’s just finished with her husband (possibly) and got with another guy. That’s what one person on TikTok said. She definitely likes old, creepy, men.

Changeyncchange · 22/11/2022 10:35

It's old creepy men that like vulnerable young women.

Guitarbar · 22/11/2022 11:00

I feel bad for her to be honest, she evidently has a lot of issues and unfortunately an online platform, even the negative comments and attention evidently give her some sort of buzz. Some of the videos people have made ridiculing her are absolutely disgusting and act as a reminder as to how horrible TT is.

Hers aren't even reborn dolls, they look like they are from wilko.

You made me snigger

Op
I usually think the dolls are for people with a mental health issue

They don't harm us so we shouldn't laugh at them leave them be

tiddlywinks2 · 22/11/2022 11:28

I accidentally stumbled upon this person, I was watching a craft live and somehow flipped across and she came on.

It was the conversation about having a still born, she briefly touched on it. She is definitely mentally unwell, I did go through her videos to see if I could find any information, so I could get her some help.

I do think it's live and let live, but this person is severely unwell.

The uproar about the formula is completely justified though, the special formula she is using, I was driving around trying to find for a friend. It's completely out of stock and it's the only one her DS can use.

Bizarre.

Firstly you are in absolutely no position to judge how unwell she is if at all.

Secondly I have no idea what kind of "help" you thought you would get her. Very silly comment.

Finally the abuse she has had over the formula cannot be justified on any level. One person buying one tub of formula from one shop(if she even did) has not had any impact on a national shortage.

Thank fuck she's left my FYP, she must have been banned.

I clicked on her once to see what all the fuss about her was and I got endless videos of hers and about her coming up.

Chelsea Lee Art! Thats it. Yes she gets banned pretty frequently but fell off my FYP now. I had months of her screaming at people - the last I saw was her with a megaphone shouting at a coach load of pensioners in Cornwall...

CourtneeLuv · 22/11/2022 11:54

Tiktok definitely facilitates all these awful and ill people going viral, because it generates views for their platform. I've heard about an account or seen the hash tag and gone and looked at it - quite a few times.

its like car crash tv. Its terrible but you still have to look.

Having reborn dolls is not for me, but I have no issue at all with people having them. Smile

But I do have issue with her going from supermarket to supermarket buying up all the tins of specialised formula for babies with allergies, thereby leaving none for the real babies who actually need it to live

Did she do that? Or are you overstating it to justify your participation in bullying a teenager?

DolphinaPD · 22/11/2022 11:58

I can understand the want for a reborn, I've just been diagnosed with POI and put an HRT at 41 so thats probably the end of that for us.

I'd never get one though, that way lies madness and its a slippery slope into a deep dark well that I'm trying to keep myself out of.

This girl is something else though.

So it's the latter then, because what you posted was 2 tubs of formula not her going from shop to shop buying "all" of it.

You overstated the harm to justify your participation in an internet mob.

Have fun with that.

FatimaHatima · 22/11/2022 12:27

I don't at all understand why people say they are useful for baby loss? Thinking you can somehow replace a real living human baby with one of these weird creepy fake plastic dolls? And that you can replace motherhood by pretending to feed and soothe this doll?
No, I don't get it at all. It's completely unhealthy and not something to be encouraged.

She did, or at least she portrayed herself as doing so by showing multiple carrier bags from different retailers and then showing off multiple tins of formula she has purchased.

No. You are stretching to infer that.

Even with your pathetic stretch and even if she removed the formula from 2 differently branded bags (which you can't see) that's still only 2 tubs from 2 shops not "going from supermarket to supermarket buying up all the tins".

Why do you feel the need to twist the truth to portray her actions a worse than they are?

Genuine question.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 22/11/2022 12:36

I collect dolls not reborns I hasten to add!
Reborns seem particularly popular on the continent as well as the USA . My limited experience of people who act as if they are real babies Is that they are mentally unwell.
The saddest thing I saw though was at a toy fair in Germany and I came across 2 teenage girls with reborns who were copying the behaviour of the older women as a sort of learnt behaviour . I don’t think they had had a baby loss , they looked too young. It was quite weird.

Yes.

Come on peeps. If she's got issues leave her be, bashing her isn't going to help.

I'm not bashing anyone and I'm not stretching anything, just going off what I've seen online/TikTok

Neither of us know this girl personally

But you can't be ok with her blatantly wasting specialist formula when there is a global shortage of the stuff

Regardless of her issues/mental state/whatever, it's still wrong

Not please, calm down and have a biscuit or something, you seem unnaturally rattled

Of course its wrong but if she's unwell it's not like she's just buying it for jollies

Murasakispillowbook · 22/11/2022 12:58

They make me shudder. But I'm unlikely to come across very many. And in the scheme of things, the odd person wasting Cow & Gate isn't going to change much. Its not likely to become a global phenomenon.
