Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

@RosesAndHellebores omg that sounded like something my sis inlaw said about our limoges 16th century louis console table "I'd really like it if it didn't have all that guild and ceramic pictures of louis style ladies on" I said nothing but was thinking your an imbecile because it wouldn't be worth 4 grand if it didn't have all those beautiful characteristics on😒

Laurendelaney1987 · 13/11/2022 20:25

why all the hate for panelling? We have it on our bay windows and it’s just beautiful... it was here when we got here (we think it’s been here since the house was built in the late 1800s. ). No way would I be taking it down when it goes out of fashion

toastedcat · 13/11/2022 20:26

Chrome
Stripey stair carpet (in oranges and greens)
Massive tvs
Big staged family photo shoots on the walls
Leather sofas

Puddinandpie · 13/11/2022 20:26

@Laurendelaney1987 I bet it looks stunning 😍

mynamesnotMa · 13/11/2022 20:27

Pine or Dark wood
Uncomfortable but trendy furniture
Signs saying laugh especially rude signs in bathrooms
Pictures of shite art
Family pictures just look at them
Matching things no creativity
Large TVs as the centrepiece
Trophies
Bright lights
Reclining leather furniture
Coffe tables
White beige or grey walls

Karate chopped cushions. Why?

Oh god yes. This annoys me so much. It doesn't even look good! I tried it once "just to see" and my cushions just looked saggy.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/11/2022 20:29

@Puddinandpie she wasn't from Herts was she Grin

echt · 13/11/2022 20:29

White walls - I'm looking at you, Australia.

Houses painted grey/brown. I mean the outside, the whole house, also Australia.

Eyelet curtains - they look cheap. I have them and they make me cringe.

Pictures hung too high.

The weird "wood" for floors that looks like plastic. Nearly always greyish for some reason.

Grey.

Pipsquiggle · 13/11/2022 20:30

Gloss kitchens
Shiny marble floors
'country' style kitchens in a modern home

woodhill · 13/11/2022 20:30

Hbh17 · 13/11/2022 20:11

Dislike:
No books
Giant TVs on walls
TV in living room
Too clean & immaculate, like a show home.... horrible!
No pictures on the wall
Anything cliched and "in fashion"

Where do you watch tv then?

Brainks · 13/11/2022 20:30

Inside - Huge TV’s, reclining leather sofa’s
Outside - Artificial grass, Hot Tubs.

Ah they aren’t talking about real panneling, the original stuff, more where folks stick little strips of wood or mdf on their walls and try to fake it, they don’t actually panel their walls. That’s what’s being discussed.

Puddinandpie · 13/11/2022 20:31

@Leafblowertime do you live jn a period property, do you have panelling??

Puddinandpie · 13/11/2022 20:32

@RosesAndHellebores no she's from Suffolk 😁

Daisy62 · 13/11/2022 20:32

Also hate a room being called a snug. Would love to have such a room. But can't bear the word. Like a horrible mix of smug and snog.

mynamesnotMa · 13/11/2022 20:33

Oh and the obligatory floating wood sleep shelf thing over the fireplace. Only it's not a fireplace it's just a hole in the wall filled with candles 🙄

RewildingAmbridge · 13/11/2022 20:36

Beautiful old houses gutted inside to make white boxes with more spotlights than most airports. It's rife where I am

Oh I love this! Really pleased with mine!

MountainChalet · 13/11/2022 20:43

Bling, crushed velvet, glitter wallpaper 🤮

WhatNoPeas · 13/11/2022 20:45

Camassia · 13/11/2022 18:39

Beams on ceilings, especially dark ones
Fireplaces in bedrooms
Exposed brickwork
Oversized handles on kitchen cupboards and fridge freezers
Dark coloured furniture

And outside:-
Decking

You'd struggle in my Tudor house then @Camassia
We have plenty of old beams, original walls with masons marks, fireplaces in all bedrooms. We have dark furniture as modern stuff would look out of place.
We also have panelling which others seem to hate, although I suspect some just meant the modern stuff.

We don't have decking though!

Personally I can't stand grey, slogans and silver furniture.

Inertia · 13/11/2022 20:45

Ashtrays anywhere- house or garden- turn my stomach.

Clutter on surfaces- find a place to put stuff away. The trope about the house being untidy/ cluttered but clean- sorry I don’t believe you. Do you really clean beneath all the piles of crap then put it all back, rather than away?

Beams- oppressive.

Red.

Adore our cat, not fond of the litter tray/ food bowls.

WhatNoPeas · 13/11/2022 20:47

Also hate spotlights. Heard them described as builder's pox and thought that was apt.

Yeh I always think rash of spotlights

MiniTheMinx · 13/11/2022 20:50

I don't have a list of things I don't like.

I have a long list of things I like, and I have. Preferences, but other things, other colours and other architectural details can look lovely, but I wouldn't choose to live with them.

I like antiques, antique carpets, paintings, and I like colours which are deep but muted. I like fabrics which are heavy, aged, antique or vintage. I like natural materials such as wood and stone. I like pattern, and layering lots of different sized patterns in one . I like warmth, old books, lamps and chairs and sofas must have feather cushions. I like things not to match, I like to pair symmetry and asymmetric arrangements together. I like the Denis Severs House and could quite happily live there. In fact, my house looks quite similar :)

Having said all that, I have seen some fantastically pleasing modern interiors. Just couldn't live in one myself.

Roxy69 · 13/11/2022 20:52

Styled children's bedrooms. Very wrong for so many reasons.
