Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

😆😆

We have a sixties house and ripped out the basketweave and replaced it with (good quality) wide plank oak effect laminate.

😱😮

BobbyBobbyBobby · 13/11/2022 05:59

The awful trend to basically remove the back of your house and fit ginormous bifold doors so that when they are pulled open you have a gaping big hole at the back of your house.

Mindthegap725 · 13/11/2022 06:43

and you haven't read one of them in over 10 years

How do you know? I love my books and they get read on a regular basis.

Each to their own but I personally dislike Buddhas as ornaments (unless you are Buddhist) and Mediterranean gardens anywhere other than the Mediterranean.

fingcntbags · 12/11/2022 20:43

@TinaTotal It's perfectly reasonable to dislike new houses. I can't think of one single thing that they have going for them. I think a lot of MNers would hate my (ancient, messy, non-matchy) house, though, so horses for courses.

Warm and energy efficient. There's 2 things they have going for them.

Fizbosshoes · 13/11/2022 08:10

I don't have many books in my house....because I don't read many books (I don't read them on Kindles or listen to audio books either)

I quite often read books when I go on holiday, but I either get them from the library or buy a few paperbacks from a charity shop....and then donate back when I've read them. I keep fairly up to date with current affairs from tv/radio/free newspapers/social media. If I want to know or research something I look it up on line.
Does this make me a bad person....? Blush

mamabear715 · 13/11/2022 08:23

Can we get off the books thing?
All been done before.

I'll try & change the subject by mentioning a PP who didn't like bones.. I have a wonderful fox skull that my DD found in her garden!
I'm sure most normal MN's would hate it, I love it! It's on my weird shelf with little angel figures, willow star & balls, beloved vases & carved box that were my grandparents when they lived in the East, several sets of rosaries, belonging to my late DH's family, and last but not least, a little model of Christine, the Plymouth Fury from the film / book of the same name! :-)

Takes all sorts.. ;-)

Hahhaaa omg shutup 😂😂 have you been inside my house?! You have no idea at what height the tv is mounted. God people on mn are so freaking weird.

Also, the clever thing about eyes is they move. I am sitting here quite able to look at both the floor and the top of the wall without moving my head at all. It’s magic

Most things on MN have been done before, including what interior design you hate. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jesus, chill, I was going off the image in your post with the TV over the fireplace.

Newuser82 · 13/11/2022 08:34

Leather sofas, dark wood furniture, coloured sofas, huge canvas pictures of the family.

StickySnotBalls · 13/11/2022 08:52

Oooh I forgot
Thick cord sofas
Coloured glass oven splashbacks
Fairy lights over the bed if you're an adult , just naff IMO

Katypp · 13/11/2022 09:08

I think most pps on here imagine they live in an old, eclectic Manor house/Edwardian terrace/farmhouse which showcases their exquisite taste to perfection.
Some of the things on here!
It's that usual Mumsnet thing though, isn't it? If something is popular and considered slightly better than average by the masses, some MNetters have to show their superiority by sneering at it. I think that the star tiles and crittall shower enclosure combo are dated already. I have an eighties brown bathroom but when I can afford to replace I will check what’s popular on Instagram/tiktok and avoid that.

Benjispruce4 · 13/11/2022 09:09

Totally right @Katypp

Katypp · 13/11/2022 09:10

Fully tiled bathrooms - what's that all about? 😂😂

@treesurgeonsarefemaletoo - you might find that there are brown bathroom enthusiasts out there. You can sell these to people who are interested in making their houses authentic to a particular period. There is an amazing lady in Manchester who has a very brown disco bathroom and who specialises in 1970s design in her home. She lets it out to film companies and photo shoots.

One persons poison is another's pleasure.

LexMitior · 13/11/2022 09:29

Estelle's rather amazing house...

ListeningButNotHearing · 13/11/2022 09:33

Dark brown stained wooden windows and doors.

Benjispruce4 · 13/11/2022 09:56

@LexMitior having been a child if the 70s that house isn’t very reflective of the times. Its a cliche house.

LexMitior · 13/11/2022 10:04

I was a 1970s child but the point is I thought it was quite fun?

Ah really? I might try that, thank you.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 12/11/2022 19:20

I’ve just remembered one of my all time hates, probably because I don’t like to think about them!

I think they may be called Metro tiles.

They are the most hideous fashion in homes that I can think of. They look like they belong in a public urinal. At one time it seemed like every house on the market had them.

Beyond ghastly.

This is just a small example as I can’t stand to look at whole walls with them on! 😬

@BobbyBobbyBobby I don’t mind those tiles but my DH is with you. He’s a doctor and he always shudders and says ‘reminds me of being in an old hospital mortuary as a student’.
