Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

I have black metro tiles as my kitchen splashback! I LOVE them. Not keen on my blue / black splodgy pattern worktop though. SO 80's looking & the house wasn't built until 2006!

BobbyBobbyBobby · 12/11/2022 18:42

I also hate festoon curtains.

Those curtains look awful
I hate fussy curtains. I only have curtains in my dining room
Dont like the dark wood desk. The previous owner of my house had dark wood furniture. Almost put me off buying the house

mamabear715 · 12/11/2022 19:41

Oh.. Audrey Hepburn pics. Just NO.

eyebright22 · 12/11/2022 19:44

Surprised at the metro tiles hate. I don't have them, but think they make a nice change from square tiles.

Croque · 12/11/2022 19:45

Buddhas as display items (when they are not Buddhist which is usually the case) , F&B bamboo wallpaper. 🙄

mamabear715 · 12/11/2022 19:49

I've just realised.. my (MN hated) brown leather sofas are probably tan/ chestnut.. does this make a difference? Am I redeemed? ;-)

Fizbosshoes · 12/11/2022 19:50

I also hate festoon curtains.

Me too.
However I worked in the curtain dept of a department store as my first job in the late 90s. Someone ordering "swags and tails" (same era, just as awful) was very exciting because it meant a massive sale! I actually quite liked it when they came in with a tile or fabric sample and I had to advise on a fabric and coordinating trim. (Compulsory to offer them tie backs with piped edging as well, and even better if they wanted coordinating cushions or a window seat too!)

Croque · 12/11/2022 19:52

I cannot rationally grow to hate my skinny, almost-black-but-still-brown leather sofa. I think those made.com pastel creations are naff and would not stay clean in our house.

Stravaig · 12/11/2022 19:53

Anything, everything that's been copied from somewhere else, whether friend or neighbour or magazine or Instagram or TV programme. Tedious, banal, devoid of personality or taste.

Leafblowertime · 12/11/2022 19:53

Illbeindenial · 12/11/2022 17:43

Hahhaaa omg shutup 😂😂 have you been inside my house?! You have no idea at what height the tv is mounted. God people on mn are so freaking weird.

Oh my. That’s cringe. The poster is clearly referring to the image you posted like it was your home.

I actually read mine! However, i do not want visitors seeing what I read as I am very protective of my book collection so I have started thinking about turning the spines inwards. I have also locked a bookcase inside a wardrobe upstairs.

What on earth are you reading?

Schmeeeee · 12/11/2022 19:56

Ghastly bright walls in colours like lime green, orange or red.

Ditto in kitchens, made even worse by brightly coloured tiles

Under the counter neon mood lighting in the kitchen

Pine / oak / wood looking anything. Especially wooden doors in homes. I like a clean looking white door.

AGA cookers

Exposed boilers / hot water tanks in kitchens

Double tapped sinks (one tap hot and one tap cold)

Plastic / composite front doors

Tiny under the counter fridges and freezers

Tiny tile back splashes behind bathroom sinks that are basically 6 tiles poorly stuck to a bare white wall. Looks so crap and unfinished. Seems to be very common as well in the U.K.

Poorly built new builds

cimena · 12/11/2022 19:54

What on earth are you reading?

It’s either the Marquis de Sade or the complete Noddy collection.

fingcntbags · 12/11/2022 20:00

Oh God, many and various.

Anything matchy-matchy
TVs
Grey
Generic art
Colour-coded books
Eyelet curtains
Three-piece suites
Tidiness
Feature walls
Anything 'live, love, laugh'-ish, especially if on a fake chalk-board type thing
Swaggy curtains
Pelmets
Fully tiled bathrooms
Blue-themed bathrooms (no need to go down the blue route, just because you think water is blue)
Radiator covers
New houses
Fake fireplaces

Those are just for starters.

catfunk · 12/11/2022 20:08

Victorian panelling In new builds
Chunky lay-z-boy sofas
Bark brown, burgundy leather sofas
Purple everywhere
Mirrored furniture
Grey and crushed velvet
Fake plastic plants
Photos printed on canvas
Red and black/ red and grey combos
Really obviously synthetic fake fur throws and cushions

WeWereInParis · 12/11/2022 20:11

TVs

TVs?? They aren't interior design!

Leafblowertime · 12/11/2022 20:15

TVs and tidiness? 😂

TV's 🙄

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 12/11/2022 20:20

Do you remember those special TV (fake wood) cabinets in the 1980s?

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 12/11/2022 20:21

You could close the doors on the offending TV but everyone knew it was a TV in the cabinet anyway!

fingcntbags · 12/11/2022 20:22

Schmeeeee · 12/11/2022 20:15

TV's 🙄

No, not TV's. TVs.

mamabear715 · 12/11/2022 20:24

I'd forgotten about those, @Whereisthehugeteddybear !
I had a dark wood one, thought it was the bees knees, until the damn doors being open got on my nerves! :-)

Ikeabag · 12/11/2022 20:25

We had a TV cabinet when I was small, I heard a noise the other day that my mind misinterpreted as one of the magnetic doors shutting on it. I'd forgotten about it til then. Drawers underneath for videos!

Ikeabag · 12/11/2022 20:26

Ours had doors that folded in half. Clattery things.

mamabear715 · 12/11/2022 20:26

@Schmeeeee I hate exposed boilers & the few tiles as sink splashbacks too, know exactly what you mean!
