To think this comment basically means I’m unattractive?

Woman said to me “I wouldn’t say you were classically attractive, you’re like model like, if you get me, not pretty”

OP posts:
OldFan · 11/11/2022 23:10

I have a strong face @namechangerduh and the modern makeup with 'contouring' I don't think works for me. So maybe avoid that if you do it. I recently bought a tinted moisturizer and that seems quite nice.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would not give it another thought.

feelingfree17 · 11/11/2022 23:16

Screams of jealousy

Iamthewombat · 11/11/2022 23:21

WishingWell5 · 11/11/2022 22:31

It means that she's intimidated by you and is trying to make herself feel better.

Yeah, this. Trying to take you down a peg or two. Don’t let her.

Erin O’Connor, the model, isn’t ‘classically attractive’ or ‘conventionally pretty’ but she wipes the floor with most women who are.

SylviasMotherSaid · 11/11/2022 23:23

She sounds very jealous wouldn’t give her a second thought

LimeTwists · 11/11/2022 23:30

I think ‘model like’ women are usually slender, striking, symmetrical and photogenic. Pretty women are different - a bit less unusual - more about conventional common features such as button-noses, clear eyes, nice skin and teeth etc - almost girlish. Erin O’Conner (sp?) would be my text book idea of an unconventionally attractive model type. She’s incredibly striking and a bit gothic as she’s dark haired and pale. I bet you look lovely.

Agapornis · 11/11/2022 23:30

I've been told 'you're not classically pretty, but you're cute' by a clumsy but well-intentioned colleague. I also have the big eyes and razor sharp cheekbones. Try to take it in your stride - I'm very happy to look unconventionally beautiful. Looking at family members I resemble, it ages quite well. Plus, I've worked at cemeteries and the goths love it Grin

Whyisegg · 11/11/2022 23:40

The answer to any comment like this is 'I don't give a f@%#^#& about your opinion '
And quite frankly why would you

Whyisegg · 11/11/2022 23:40

'The body healthy and clean is the body beautiful '

Booklover3 · 11/11/2022 23:42

namechangerduh · 11/11/2022 22:10

No, we were standing in a pub bathroom doing our makeup (wasn’t drunk) and she just came out with it. I’m not close to her at all.

She’s jealous then

Blibbleflibble · 11/11/2022 23:46

TBF she compared you to a model. Sorry people have made you feel like shit with comparisons in the past. You sound beautiful though, I love a striking cheek bone 😍

RFPO77 · 11/11/2022 23:46

I think it was a compliment gone wrong Tbh. It's the type of thing I'd say and fluff. Models are never classically beautiful, it's boring and doesn't stand out. Obviously they're usually stunning but often in a striking way IFSWIM

QuestioningMyExistence · 11/11/2022 23:47

I get told I look like corpse bride all the time OP and always got told I should be a model growing up/early twenties but like you I never had much self confidence. I always thought the corpse bride thing was a compliment though! I’ve been pregnant and breastfeeding and generally unwell looking (along with the big sunken corpse bride eyes) for the last what feels like 100 years so get less compliments on my looks now 😂
I would take her comment as a compliment, she’s obviously been looking at you and got a little jealous so said your not classically attractive, when you sound very attractive.

MadameDe · 11/11/2022 23:48

What it actually means is that although you may not be conventionally attractive, you're striking, have an amazing figure and could have been a model.

It's a bit rude, to be honest. Probably meant as a compliment but very clumsy.

Greenginghamdress · 11/11/2022 23:51

It's not an insult, OP. I've had it all my life.

You can be a striking woman but not classically pretty, IMO. I get called striking, gothic, and the like.

Never pretty.

sopeas · 11/11/2022 23:52

What a weird think for her to say to you. Sorry it made you feel this way though she was perhaps looking for the word “striking” - hope you’re okay and try not to take it to heart for much longer xx

threegoodthings · 11/11/2022 23:52

It must be so awful to be told you look like a model. Poor you OP Flowers

Kanaloa · 11/11/2022 23:54

You think someone saying you look like a model means you’re unattractive? That’s a strange conclusion to draw. What made you draw the conclusion that looking like a model (people who are literally paid to have their photo taken) means you’re unattractive?

Theradioisoncoco · 12/11/2022 00:04

Yes means you're unusual looking , I'd take that

Manasprey · 12/11/2022 00:11

I would take it as she thinks you're attractive, but can't work out why.

I am not pretty. I am probably, in old fashioned terms, handsome. Not great teeth though. But this is because I am tall and carry myself well.

Turquoisa80 · 12/11/2022 00:17

You have an interesting face, your striking in some way.. Take it as a compliment

Blondiechips · 12/11/2022 00:26

Someone once said that I looked "like a work of art" (not directly to me, but to one of my friends who then told me) - that could mean anything from 'oh my she looks like a deconstructed mess' to 'goodness me she's beautiful'...I decided to take it in the latter sense 😂
Take it as a compliment and run with it!

user375242 · 12/11/2022 00:35

When you look at models nowadays, they are striking and very attractive in unique ways. They all have a special quality. Not 'pretty' in the stereotypical and insipid way. To me it sounds like a compliment. But if she really is a bitch I guess it could have been a deliberate attempt to make you paranoid.

souperveg · 12/11/2022 00:42

Doesn't matter. It's just her opinion. Someone else might think you were classically attractive. Beauty is really so subjective.

namechangechildfree · 12/11/2022 00:48

Your self esteem and validation cannot hang on the tiny peg of a throwaway comment from a random person in a pub toilet.
