What do you pay your cleaner per hour? How often do you have them? Weekly/fortnightly? How many hours? Do you value them? Are you happy with their work?

I have only had a cleaner for last 6 months or so and it is so much better. I had a couple of false starts. But now have found a wonderful lady who comes with one or two others (I never really know how many will turn up). I pay her for nine hours a week. (Large house and four very messy children). Pay 16 pounds an hour.

They clean everything really well each week. They even cleaned my front porch. Haven't given them a list as such but they clean things I wouldn't even think of cleaning .... So they seem to know their job better than me.

mondaytosunday · 12/11/2022 08:59

Don't have one currently but last one £12.50/hour came once a week for four hours (large 4 bed 4 reception house). A bit slow (she never got the all the rooms done, whereas previous one managed it plus organised a cupboard or two) but thorough and dependable. Outside London.
I live in a three bed terrace in London now and am looking for one - I expect I'll pay at least £15/hour and have a cleaner for three hours a week.

Appleblum · 12/11/2022 09:08

£17 per hour, 4 hours weekly, London. She's very good and even does my ironing. We don't chat much but I really value her services.

LadyApplejack · 12/11/2022 09:16

£15 per hour, 2 hours per week. Money well spent!

Can I ask a couple of things please:

How did you find your cleaners?

Secondly, do they have keys to your house?

And lastly, how clean is your house to start with? Do you clean in between cleaning visits or just tidy?

Thanks!

I only use someone through a personal recommendation. So my cleaner works for 2 of my friends. No keys, as either dh or I wfh - that is a level of trust that I'm way too uneasy about anyway. I have a 4 bed 3 bathroom, 2 reception rooms and all are massively decluttered. There aren't piles of crap in corners, counteracts loaded with stuff, mantels sitting with ornaments requiring wasting time dusting, each main room has a toy storage, etc. So I don't do any tidying/minimal tidying before she comes.

shonapop · 14/11/2022 17:39

Loved reading all the replies. Most people seem so grateful for their cleaner. A client told me today that I have been sent from God! I'm so chuft haha!

Ours charge £8 an hour, they come as a pair and we have them for 2 hours a week.

They do the kitchen, 3 bathrooms, living room (including behind the sofa) master bedroom and all windows and blinds.

They mop throughout and hover all rooms they’re in.

once a month they also do a ‘big’ job, that alternates between cleaning the oven, full dishwasher clean and washing machine clean and de clogging.

279Nouveauxnoms · 14/11/2022 18:32

@Floatyflip i assume you mean £18ph?

@shonapop how much do you charge out of interest? And what did you plan to put it up to? Has this thread given you confidence to do so or made you rethink?

We’ve been looking for a new cleaner for the last year or so, people keep not turning up to the initial meeting or one said they wanted £20ph which I felt was too much (we are not in London or SE). It seems from this thread that £15-18 is the norm and I’d be happy with that. Just so hard to find someone good and reliable at the moment it seems.

notanothertakeaway · 14/11/2022 18:39

£14 per hour

Our cleaner also does laundry, ironing, changes bedding puts bins out etc. Quick chat on arrival. Never stops for coffee. If we're on holiday, she uses initiative to eg empty the bookshelves to dust all the books etc

£8 per hour isn't much at all. I'd be uncomfortable paying such a low rate

SilentNike · 14/11/2022 18:42

£15ph in London, 9 hours a week (she comes twice). In that time she cleans the whole house twice, does all the ironing, changes the beds once a week.

They use the house cleaning as a ‘loss leader’ so nothing to feel uncomfortable about.

They do a wonderful job too

Going From £12.50 to £15 per hour. I am going to go for it and increase. I think I'm worth it!!

Anyone paying 10 ph should be ashamed. Stop being so tight.

My thoughts entirely.

Errrr what do you mean by ‘loss leader ‘?

Do you really not understand a very basic retail strategy?

Is your Google not working?

GilmoreGirl84 · 14/11/2022 20:00

We pay £100 every fortnight for a house clean (it's a 5-bedroom house). She comes with her husband and they clean together. Second month of trying so I still haven't made my mind up yet!

GilmoreGirl84 · 14/11/2022 20:01

I also want to add that it was really hard to find a cleaner with availability - they seem to be gold dust here in the South East!

DeepDown12 · 14/11/2022 20:12

Our cleaner's rate is 14p per hour. 4h blocks 1x week.

OhPeggySue · 14/11/2022 20:42

I'm available! I'm in Cheshire. £11 per hour. I've been a housekeeper for the rich and famous, so I'm very good, even if I do say so myself! Totally trustworthy, flexible etc.

bakerstreetbus74 · 14/11/2022 20:58

I've just been quoted £20 an hour for a fortnightly 3 hour clean using my products. Northern small town. My previous one was £50 for 3 hours but she had to go as was only doing 2 1/2 hours and not getting round everything but wanted the full £50 (didn't care that I could see when she nicked off on the ring doorbell)!

I think £15 is fair but it looks like
I don't have a lot of choice. I did it all myself this weekend and my shoulder injury has flared up and I was thoroughly miserable the whole time.

I spot clean daily but it's good knowing the house is getting a good going over twice a month.

I envy those who have cleaners that change beds and do the extras as well. I'd love that!

Scottishskifun · 14/11/2022 21:02

£12 per hour for 3 hours every fortnight she usually finishes in 2.5 but I always pay 3.
She's not the best we have had a different company who were far better but cleaners are like gold dust in our area! It has the added benefit of making my DH tidy his clutter away (wfh) so I don't mind!

Prettybutdumb · 14/11/2022 21:03

£70 for 5h-ish. Sometimes she leaves 20-30 mins early, but I don’t care because I tried handling the big weekly cleaning myself and I’ve never managed it in less than 8-9 hours. It’s soul destroying, I really appreciate her coming every week.

I think we all understand what a loss leader is. How does it relate to your cleaner though? Do they sell you other services for a higher price?
