What do you pay your cleaner per hour? How often do you have them? Weekly/fortnightly? How many hours? Do you value them? Are you happy with their work?

Wow you must have a sparkling home. That's a lot of hours.

Local woman who does four hours a week for £80.

I love her. She does a terrific job and is really easy to work with- if I ask her to focus on a particular area, she’s always happy to do it, and she’s great for sorting something if she sees an issue.

It’s a big house but we don’t use a lot of it so she cleans a big area, but very few bedrooms etc.
It’s generally kept very tidy so she can just go straight in and clean- she never has to move or tidy things.

It’s important with a cleaner that you set out what’s important to you. For me, it’s floors and the kitchen so if she has to spend more time cleaning the kitchen one week and doesn’t get to dust the hall tables, that’s fine by me.

Important too that they understand what you don’t want them to do. I’m not comfortable with someone touching my clothes or laundry so she doesn’t do any of that.

Trust is important too. My cleaner has her own set of keys for my house, and the alarm code. It took a few months until I was happy to do that but now she comes even if I’m away and will do things like take in my post. She’s very respectful of my home.

She’s been with me for three years now and I’ve given her rate increases twice, though she didn’t ask for them. She’s self-employed and obviously sets her own rates, but if someone is cleaning my toilet, I want it to be worth their while, and I want to keep her.

I value her very much and tell her all the time- I think we’re both quite happy with the arrangement.

NW1 - £30hr, for twins who work together and blitz my house approx once a month, takes them 4 hours (so equivalent to 8 for 1 person-5 beds, 4 baths). They are great, no chatting/drinking tea, I provide materials and it’s so lovely having the whole house clean at the same time (I stay mostly on top of it in between their visits but only bit by bit!)

Desperately looking for a cleaner in SE London… :(

Pleasecreateausername13 · 11/11/2022 15:48

I’m a cleaner and just had to put my prices up to £15 an hour, but I use my own products and cleaning equipment. Customers seem to be happy with my work.

£13/hr SW London, two lovely women who come in for 3 hours - so 6 hours in total - once a fortnight (can't really afford more often, though I'd love to!) and totally blitz the place.

Really nice people too, always a smile, and do a terrific job. They're self employed, not through an agency, so get to keep all the money (the agencies take a huge proportion of what we pay, I don't use them).

Afraid not, I’m quite a bit north of that. Maybe 400 miles lol.

HolidayHappy123 · 11/11/2022 15:56

£15ph for 18 hours per week. I also pay her when we are away and 2 weeks paid leave of her choosing plus and extra week’s wages at Christmas.

She’s great as has been with me for more than 10 years.

Though looking at the others, we may be underpaying them... 😬

£15.50 an hour for 3 hours fortnightly. Helps keep on top of things. She runs her own business and supplies everything. But yes I still clean too. If she needs it she will sometimes do 4 hours. 4 bed new build.

Pleasecreateausername13 · 11/11/2022 15:59

£12.50 is really cheap for a cleaner. I was worried about going up to £15 but fuel, products, wear and tear on my equipment isn’t cheap and to be fair, I really enjoy it but it’s absolutely backbreaking stuff, so I feel £15 is fair at the moment.

thewolfandthesheep · 11/11/2022 16:13

3h twice a week. Big house, outstanding work. Own products. Have a chat once in a while. Can switch to whatever is needed on the day. But perfect routine for a spotless house. Very discreet. Payed through lockdown as didn't want to loose her.

@Pleasecreateausername13

So, do you fancy a 400mile move south? 2 new clients guaranteed!

thewolfandthesheep · 11/11/2022 16:15

She is self employed, takes two vacations per year. 15£ per hour.

SkylightSkylight · 11/11/2022 16:16

@shonapop

Are you planning on a pipe band??

Bafflingpineapplecow · 11/11/2022 16:22

Yorkshire, we get two of them in for 3 hrs per week, £15 an hour. They are wonderful in every way, do absolutely everything, bins, change bedding, pull out sofas, clean windows. You name it, they'll get it done. Wouldn't know what to do without them

whirlyhead · 11/11/2022 16:24

5 hours a week, £17 an hour, I supply the cleaning products. I've had her for years and she's never put the price up. We're good friends and I enjoy seeing her so we can chat as she works.

JaneJeffer · 11/11/2022 16:26

I don't have a cleaner but I want to hear the noise.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 11/11/2022 16:28

£15 an hour for 2 hours a week. There’s 2 of them so they are here for an hour. It’s only enough to do the basics - they tend to go round things like rugs, sofas etc. I’ll book a deep clean before Christmas if I can afford it.

LeaveLeaveLeave · 11/11/2022 16:29

£15 ph, 3 hours x2 per week. She changes the beds and rotates which rooms she does. She has quite a bit of free rein and will tell me what she’s done afterwards.

The intention was to have a list of all the jobs that need tackling and tick them off when they’ve been done - for example “light fitting in x room”. So that things don’t go longer than a couple of months. But we never got round to that, so it’s more random when things get done. She’s been with us 12 years so I really don’t think we can produce a list out of nowhere now 😂

I like her as a person which I think is incredibly important. She’s totally trustworthy and has done stacks of favours (locking ourselves out & she brings us her key for eg).
I very much value her and what she does so I want to keep her happy.

Are you thinking of setting up OP? Or trying to find someone?

lovelyclouds · 11/11/2022 16:29

2 hours a week, £15 per hour (wales) I trust her and hugely value her. She is incredible

susan12345678 · 11/11/2022 16:29

£15 an hour, 4 hours a week. I tidy the house very thoroughly before she comes, clear away any clutter on benches and surfaces, pick anything up off the floor, so she is literally just cleaning and not wasting time trying to tidy/work out where things belong.

I don’t really chat to her because her English is poor but she seems very pleasant. Previously I’ve had English cleaners and one in particular was very easy to chat to, I ended up over-sharing to be frank and it became a bit awkward!

Ultravox · 11/11/2022 16:33

£12.50ph NW 3hrs pw uses her own materials except for hoover and mop.

She’s not through an agency and she’s worked for us for 4 years. To be honest she’s just an ok cleaner & not terribly reliable but I like and trust her & can’t be arsed looking for anyone else really.

Always pay an extra week at Christmas & summer and paid her all through lockdown.
