Creating this thread as my DH is clearly an idiot...

When you shorten November to Nov. How do you say Nov

Is it Nov - as in nob but with a v
Or
Is it Nove - as in by jove.

I ran this past my friend just now and she said Nov but her DH insisted it was Nov(e)

So, YANBU - of course it's like nob. How else would ot you say it. Or YABU - your DH is superior.

I should have also pointed out that my DH says it like Nove

Nove. Your DH is right 😁

CuriousCatfish · 10/11/2022 21:11

When would you ever shorten November?

PurpleButterflyWings · 10/11/2022 21:11

You are BOTH being unreasonable to shorten the word 'November' for NOV when you are saying the word. Writing it maybe, for quickness, but SAYING NOV instead of NOVEMBER is very odd. YABU. Both of you!

Cococomelon · 10/11/2022 21:11

I might write "Nov" but never say it out loud. So neither.

but in my head I say "Nov" as I write it. Not "Nove"

Inasec24 · 10/11/2022 21:11

Nov - you are right.

If it was pronounced Nove it would be spelled Nove.

Wherediditallgo · 10/11/2022 21:12

I would never say it out loud. I would always say November even if I wrote Nov.

drpepperwhatstheworstthatcouldhappen · 10/11/2022 21:12

I would never say 'nov', it's not a word to be spoken 🤣

This.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 10/11/2022 21:14

Cococomelon has it right - it's when you write it rather than say it but then you say the short version of the word you have written in your head

TooHotToRamble · 10/11/2022 21:15

I don't think I've ever heard anyone shorten it. Neither Nov nor Nove sound right.

I think I just say November. I would shorten Jan and Feb in speech, but not any of the other months. And I can't say I've ever heard anyone else doing it either. You wouldn't say "Aug" or "Dec" for example.

Another weird English language anomaly!!

GoodnightGentleBoris · 10/11/2022 21:15

I think what this dilemma highlights is how we don’t say “by jove” nearly enough. I think it needs a comeback

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 10/11/2022 21:16

My point exactly!!

😂😂😂

I'm happy to get on board with this. My DH definitely would - he would have been a butler in a former life. So that's three of us to get things started...

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 10/11/2022 21:18

If you said Nov to me for November I wouldn't have a clue what you meant

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 10/11/2022 21:19

This whole thing came about becuase we were talking about the date as in its 9/11 today in British date version. DH explained to me that is why he always writes it as 9 Nov - but he said it as 9 Nove which really bugged me and its been bugging me all day. So I ran it past my bezzie and while she agreed with me, her DH also said it was Nove. That's why I thought I would ask you guys

OP posts:
KrisAkabusi · 10/11/2022 21:21

I've only ever seen it written down. I've never heard anyone say it.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 10/11/2022 21:23

I agree wholeheartedly

I say “Vember”.

Seebee · 10/11/2022 21:30

Nov is Nov, nove is nove. So it’s Nov. Your way.

But, unlike say Feb or Jan, I don’t think I’ve ever used it. Just as I don’t use Jul for July. So here’s another one for your DH. Jul. Is it Jule to rhyme with fuel, same nove logic, or is it Jul to rhyme with Cull? Sorry, cat, pigeons :-)

We don't say it say it as such. I always say November. He was just trying to describe how he writes it but used the word Nove to say how he wrote Nov
