Crush - at my age!

notseventeenforever · 09/11/2022 17:08

Have a crush.
Work together.
Younger than me.

Never thought I would get starry eyed about a man again and well here we are.

Do I hand in my notice?
WFH as much as possible?
Leave the country?
Make a move at the Christmas party?

Young man, at your age, at my age, young man.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 09/11/2022 17:13

beonmywaythen · 09/11/2022 17:14

How old are you both? Do you think he feels the same?

KimberleyClark · 09/11/2022 17:15

Are you positive he doesn’t have a girlfriend?

AriettyHomily · 09/11/2022 17:15

None of the above. It'll wear out soon!

Mischance · 09/11/2022 17:16

It will pass - but if he is free then why not make a move?! Might be some fun to be had!

My sensible head is saying ignore but my I've been single for a million years head is saying what if...

OP posts:
notseventeenforever · 09/11/2022 17:22

How does one know if someone likes you? I'm absolutely clueless, been out the game for years.

Early 40’s?! You’re hardly ancient! And even if you were over 100 you’re never too old for a bit of romance (or whatever takes your fancy!) and making the most of a giddy heart. Definitely time to practice a bit of work appropriate flirting and see how he reacts. Good luck!

JamSandle · 09/11/2022 17:25

None of us age out of crushes.

ScroogeMcDuckling · 09/11/2022 17:26

Unless you are deluding yourself about your age, you are not ancient!!

Even if you were ancient, a bit of company on a cold winters night can be very nice, it’s only a few weeks to Christmas, “pull him”, dust off and squeeze yourself into the party outfits and go and have lots of fun.

Worry next year if you want to move in together

Hi Op

we have never met, but both of us are thinking the same thing, but she can type quicker than me

notseventeenforever · 09/11/2022 17:38

Thank you thank you!

Defo don't think I'm too old I've just been single now for around 5 years so really out the swing of things.

We were all at a gathering on Friday night and something seemed to shift between us if that makes sense, or I could be imagining it Grin.

I can’t really see the problem. So you fancy someone about 7 or 8 years your junior. There may be a possibility that he feels the same way - or not. Time will tell . But in your early 40s you are definitely not too old!

APJ1 · 09/11/2022 20:06

You're both single and I wouldn't think anything of that age gap, at the ages you are now, go for it!

notseventeenforever · 10/11/2022 07:00

Such lovely and encouraging reply's.

Excited about going into work, ridiculous!

Notthetoothfairy · 10/11/2022 07:25

My vote is to flirt (subtly at first) then, if you think he might be interested, see if you can get him alone at the Christmas party.

StarlightLady · 10/11/2022 08:11

No knickers at the Xmas party usually does the trick! A friend told me 😂.

SkylightSkylight · 10/11/2022 08:45

@notseventeenforever

I was expecting you to say he was 19.

it's Friday! Surely the world hasn't changed so much you can't see if he wants to go for a drink after work.

Have you spoken to him for more than 5 minutes? Not that it matters if you just want to shag him, but quite important if you want more.

ScroogeMcDuckling · 10/11/2022 11:09

About 15years ago, we had an influx of new lorry drivers. One of my colleagues really fancied one of them, and it was obvious it wasn’t one way traffic!!

Another of my colleagues, who is now part-time retired, was a bingo fan, got all of us to join the local Bingo Hall, she filled in the forms - took a copy of our driving licences - and went in to bingo hall and did it.

On the following Monday, about 30 of us, including the most important two, went to the “Monday Lunch Bingo”. It was £2.00 including a cup of tea, went on for a few hours, I was instructed to bring a flask of tea, and a loaf of cheese sandwiches, some were instructed to buy little party sausage rolls and cook them, one lady bought in onion bhajis, some bought a box or two of Mr Kiplings!

The idea was to all mix and mingle, have a laugh, each took phone numbers so we could do this again,

I actually made a new friend that day, I still go to that reading club, and my colleague and new lorry driver arranged and went to see a film together, because it was easy too, on the Thursday Lunchtime, and yes they are together still.

it was such a different environment from the pub, when you are dabbing your numbers you actually do go like primary school kids, get very giggly and touchy, especially if the tables are small!

Good Luck, I hope in your work environment, there is a lovely lady who knows that Bingo will bring people together form lasting friendships and occasionally make a fantastic relationship.

it’s still something that I do with my colleagues, once a month, probably 70 or 80 turn up most times, it’s really weird because it’s lovely seeing your colleagues dressed up in their own clothes, and not the warehouse uniform.

Musti · 10/11/2022 11:12

You’re both single and a similar age - don’t see the problem!!
