Will make any difference to anything other than giving the dosh to Qatar and Qatari business.

It made no difference to human rights abuses when we had the Olympics in China so why does anyone expect this to be any different?

We can tell all we want. We literally invaded Afghanistan and literally told them to let girls go to school. Now we have gone and they're worse off than before.

Do you think Afghanistan should be able to tell the UK that women should stay in and burka-up if they go out? Don't be bonkers.

We can talk about it, we can suggest, we can stop awarding large sporting events to these countries. But we literally cannot tell them what laws they can have or not. What a bizarre idea.

I mean, that's pretty much what the english did 400 years ago. But that was then and this is now.

So again: if you are going to Qatar, you have to keep their rules or there are consequenses. We, conversely, don't allow people to come here and do what they like either.

It just shows how corrupt professional football is and anyone with any sense of justice will not be watching the World Cup. When you think of the virtue signalling that has gone on with all the taking the knee by our wonderful lads and then they are going to a place that is all but practicing modern day slavery surely there must be a large element of hypocrisy here. Footballers piously turnout in rainbow kit and then go and play somewhere which throws gays off high buildings. The whole thing stinks and the reason it does is because money talks and FIFA have been bribed with millions from Qatar to play there and the players are going because they will earn money to play there and money talks louder than principles. Do we really think Mr Beckham thinks Qatar is so wonderful or perhaps because his bank balance is full?

"We can tell all we want." "But we literally cannot tell them what laws they can have or not."

That doesn't make sense.

No one is talking about invading anyone.

Lil50 It's fascinating isn't it? People will support Gay Pride, wear their rainbows and then support a country which, as you say, throws gays off high buildings.

And not so many weeks ago people were praising David Beckham for queuing to see the Queen's coffin. Now he is off to Qatar and therefore is showing he has no problem with their laws.

Good to hear on another thread that Rod Stewart turned down 1m to play there and has spoken out about Qatar and Iran. Some people still have morals, thankfully.

Do you only visit countries where you have no problems with the local laws and customs then @FourChimneys ? I must admit I'd find that really limiting.
