Question for people with fake eyelashes?

I’ve only ever worn disposable eyelashes before so I’m not familiar with the world of semi permanent lashes but it’s something I’ve decided I’d like. I’m willing to look after them and return for infills and so on.

the only problem is that I don’t even know where to start! I’ve looked at photos and recommendations and found some places that I’d like to try, they offer styles like classic lashes, Russian lashes or hybrid lashes. Does anyone have any personal experience or advice with any of these? Also, how long did they really last before you needed another treatment?

i would really like something that makes my lashes look long and full and thick, but not the really unnatural heavy and thick ones. I was thinking of getting dark brown rather than black as I’m very fair skinned and thought jet black might look too extreme on me

if anyone has any advice, tips or personal experience I would be grateful to hear them!

thank you!

I have classic lashes and don't have them very long, I only got them as I have very straight, fair and long lashes but they had no volume.
They last me 2 weeks sometimes longer sometimes shorter, all depends on how well I look after them.
I have been getting them for 3 years now and love them. They make such a difference as in no more panda eyes from mascara and when they are freshly done I don't have to bother with eyeshadow and liner.
Go for it and experiment with what suits you.
In terms of colour, I never knew you could get brown ones!

My sister had those semi permanent lashes and they started to come off after 2 weeks so she had some infills but they didn't last either. If she'd kept up with them at that rate it'd have cost a fortune. She had them removed and then had her natural ones permed. That was only last week though so I don't know how good they'll be.

what’s your AIBU?

OrigamiOwls · 06/11/2022 20:59

I have classics, I find russian to be too dramatic for me. I get them infilled every couple of weeks.

AIBU to ask about your experience with fake eyelashes?

Happy?🙄

I am absolutely a lash convert! Strip lashes don’t tend to suit me and I’m a little low maintenance with make up so I love a set of classics as I feel like I need no more eye make up with them.
I highly recommended them!

TheSausageKingofChicago · 06/11/2022 21:04

I’ve had natural and Russian lashes. The Russian are a bit OTT for me. I get about 2-3 weeks out of them. I don’t keep up with them though, just get them for an occasion. I find them a bit itchy and crispy to have on full time.

Whatthefuck3456 · 06/11/2022 21:04

Op I get hybrids and get them from 10-13 with longest being over the centre of my eye as this makes the eye look bigger. I get infills every 2 weeks. It works out £20 a fortnight but this makes my life so much easier I wake up looking fresh! Best Buy ever. I’ve had these on for years. Go for it OP

Gluer · 06/11/2022 21:06

brilliant thank you for all the advice!

without sounding daft, are they difficult to keep clean? I spend a lot of time in a dusty/muddy/sweaty environment and was worried the lashes wouldn’t last because of it, I know you can’t get them wet for the first 48 hours but is it ok to gently clean them after this time? 😊

Definitely gently clean daily after the fist 24 hours of keeping dry! You can get little brushes and shampoos made for cleaning them, or just use a clean makeup brush and some micellar water. They'll last differently on each person, I get hybrid lashes as they're part classic part Russian, when they start to fall out there's still some volume left. I get infills every two weeks and they're never really that sparse. Need to keep them away from oil (like oil cleansers) as that dissolves the glue 😊 keep spoolies everywhere too to keep them brushed - makes them look fuller!

Thewildling · 06/11/2022 21:15

Yes theyre quite easy to keep clean, my lash technician recommends baby shampoo when needed to lather them up! I have a few clean spoolies too to give them a brush.

Use a lash serum such as Revitalash. You won't need extensions or false lashes!

Jetsil · 06/11/2022 21:23

I used to have them, got the hybrid ones. Absolutely loved them.

I will say, they are an expensive investment. Plus remembering to not rub your eyes!!

Decided to stop having them, then realised they really ruin your natural lashes. A year on and my natural lashes still aren't back to normal :(

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 06/11/2022 21:41

I’ve had them and liked the look of them, but I struggled to use an eyeliner pencil on my top lids when I had the lashes. Even with lashes, I found I needed to use mascara, then trying to to it - and eyeshadow and eyeliner - off with micellar water and cotton wool meant the cotton wool got caught in the lashes.

in the end it was too much effort for me to continue. Having said that, I’m too lazy to use stick-on lashes, so if you already do that, you’ve probably willing to go to the “effort” of having lash extensions.

Don't they change your eye colour?

Cinders88 · 06/11/2022 21:49

I’ve always gone for classics and with a D curl. I like them longer at the centre part of my eye, and shorter at the corners .. it opens my eyes up more that way.

IMO, the Russian lashes are more for a night out look. I much prefer classics to make me look more put together when I’m knackered and can’t be arsed with makeup, which is most of the time! It just makes me look like I’ve got nice lashes rather than false ones.

That being said, when I’ve got my lashes done, I do miss being able to rub my eyes, sleep flat on my face without crushing them, etc.

DillDanding · 06/11/2022 21:55

I’ve had them twice. I asked for the most natural ones they did, but still looked a bit like a drag queen. I quite liked them after a couple of weeks when some had fallen out.

What I really hated was not being able to rub my eyes.

It later occurred to me I look much better without them.

tickticksnooze · 06/11/2022 21:58

And what chemicals are used? What long term research exists on the long term health impact and safety?

It just sounds toxic.

tickticksnooze · 06/11/2022 21:59

Everyone looks better without them.

🙄

Bunnyannesummers · 06/11/2022 22:04

Definitely start with classics but be aware that they don’t work for everyone. I’ve never had a set last more than a week (don’t get them frequently) and I look after them well - they just don’t stick on for me!

Badgirlriri · 06/11/2022 22:06

Mine never lasted more than 2 weeks and they became quite sore. When I had them removed I had alot of natural eyelashes missing.

Badgirlriri · 06/11/2022 22:08

What I really hated was not being able to rub my eyes.

I missed that feeling too

giraffes2021 · 06/11/2022 22:35

I have hybrids have them done every 2-3 weeks not too heavy and not too little. Absolute life saver with two kids under 5 just makes me look less dead daily hahaha and I do not miss panda eyes !

Lalalalazy · 07/11/2022 11:58

I have hybrids and i love them!!! I have 3 kids under 5 and they just make me feel less bald as I have no time for makeup in the morning. They last around 2 weeks for me. The maintenance and cost is ridiculous. If they were a once a month/every 6 weeks thing I wouldn't mind but £40 infills every 2 weeks isn't great.
