Or is ITV Hub just shit?

I can't get it on my TV anymore because apparently it's too old. I'm trying to log in on my laptop but just get
"We're really sorry
Something's gone wrong and we're experiencing some technical issues. Take a look at @itvhub on Twitter for the most up-to-date information from us."
Am I being wildly cynical in thinking they're just trying to push the ITV plus subscription service?

They're launching a new service soon to replace itv hub so doubt they're putting any new tech into it

It's not subscription. More focused on streaming.

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 06/11/2022 20:41

ah it’s so frustrating isn’t it? I have a Samsung smart HD TV but apparently it’s now too old to use the new updated ITV hub. It’s ridiculous as I’m not going to replace a good TV that isn’t actually old just to get ITV hub.

Dacadactyl · 06/11/2022 20:42

I think ITV full stop is shit.

allthecrooksandnannies · 06/11/2022 20:43

It’s absolutely shite

Blocked · 06/11/2022 20:44

I find with itv hub and iplayer you can't just FF or rewind 5 minutes, you have to go back to the start and watch everything all over again. Including ads on the itv hub. It's annoying.

"ITV Hub+ is the new name for our Premium subscription service. For £3.99 a month, you'll get all the features of the ITV Hub you know and love, but with extra benefits like ad-free telly and downloads!"
It does sound like a subscription to me!

I tend to watch it on my laptop because my TV is almost 8 years old. But still working so not going to replace it.

Womencanlift · 06/11/2022 20:49

I actually think it’s got better recently. I stream it on my tv and up until a couple of months ago it was always (randomly) 7 minutes behind live tv. This seemed to be a known issue that had been going on for ages according to some Googling I did.

Out of the blue it fixed itself 🤷‍♀️

www.itvmedia.co.uk/making-an-impact/britains-freshest-new-streaming-service-launching-later-this-year

ITVX is an entirely new, advertiser-funded, free-to-watch streaming service. It will be built on a new technical and user architecture, underpinned by a significantly enhanced data capability and packed with 15,000 hours of content.

Haha! Very much this. Unsophisticated, inane noise for the masses.

NoodieRoodie · 06/11/2022 20:54

It is in fact shit! Earlier this year when we were in a "nothing to watch drought" DH and I decided to watch Grantchester from the beginning as we'd started at about series 4. Unless the pair of us are spectacularly stupid it seems to lack the continue watching feature that all other streaming services offer. We started to joke that we'd need a little notebook and special pen kept next to the TV recording which episode we were up to😂

heartbroken22 · 06/11/2022 20:55

Yeah it reminds me of the early 90s.

KimberleyClark · 06/11/2022 20:57

ITV hub doesn’t work on our TV, if I want to watch it I have to use my laptop or tablet.

Startagain51 · 06/11/2022 21:04

I wanted to watch The Walk-in, I saw episode one at a friends. It was excellent. Not remotely inane.

But I'm really looking forward to not being able to view a much better fresh new streaming service. FFS

YANBU. I tried to watch a couple of series this year on the app and quickly came to the conclusion it wasn't worth the hassle. It didn't save where I was and made me go back to watch all the ads again any time I paused. Useless.

VanillaImpulse · 06/11/2022 21:35

I did the ad-free 7 days free trial when I was isolating with covid so was good then but it is so painful with the ads in, it just takes forever!

lovelilies · 06/11/2022 22:34

I'm going to go again the grain and say I like it!
It has a 'last watched' menu where you can resume watching. I watch on PC and TV at home.
There's some really good dramas imo

Oooh aren't you just so above the hoi polloi. I wish I was on your level but alas I'm just a thick commoner.

I find it so shit, constantly freezing. I hope the new tech is better.

ScreamingMeMe · 06/11/2022 22:39

(This is on Fire TV so clearly the shitness spreads to all devices.)

I’m having issues with this too. Also if I stop a programme halfway through, when I come back to it the bar on the main page shows I've watched half of the programme, but as soon as I press play it starts from the beginning and I have to watch all of the adverts again.

We cancelled sky a few months back which is saving lots of money, however I do miss being able to download programmes so that adverts can be fast forwarded. We won’t be subscribing to get rid of them though. It wouldn’t be so bad if it worked properly.

Stellaroses · 06/11/2022 23:25

It is awful! No “continue watching” so I have to type the program into the search bar. Gives me an option to resume but then goes right back to the start anyway! And the ads are the same 5 ads over and over!!

endofthelinefinally · 06/11/2022 23:29

I still use the old fashioned method of lap top and HDMI cable. It works fine and it is easy to rewind and FF. Not the tidiest way of doing things, but it is ok.

Just buy a Roku stick for £30. Much better idea!

If you have an HDMI port then a Roku stick sorts it out 🙂🙂
