To ask if I need to spend over £1k for a nice mattress?

I was looking at an ikea one for less than £400 that people kept rating

But I've been on another thread and people are gushing over their £1.5k Tempa? Mattress.

Am I really missing out that much if I only have a very modest budget? Should I splurge and push it to get a very nice one?

Good sleep is important as I don't get much of it - I'm a carer.

I’ve had three mattresses from John Ryan by Design. I love them and the customer service is 10/10 as well.

We have Hypnos sprung on all of our beds. A “Knightsbridge”, no turn, SK zip & link (had to go z&l because of the shape of our staircase) and Premier Inn ones on the rest. I don’t think they do the Knightsbridge anymore, it’s maybe 4yrs old and in lovely condition.

I'm not going to say you have to spend big bucks as there may well be cheaper good quality ones, but I will say you need to go to a shop and find what works for you. Invest your time as well as your money. We did the mattress checker thing at Dreams to find what works for DH and I, we both assumed we'd want firm but after doing the machine thing and lying on lots of mattresses found a medium was much better suited to us. The machine thing might be a bit of a fad, but our bed is amazing, 2 years on and it feels brand new. We sleep very well.

Yes, you do. Ours was £1600 for the mattress and about £800 for the frame (could have got a cheaper frame but we just really liked it) It’s our best investment bar the solar panels.

Look at it this way. You could easily spend £2.5k on a family holiday which lasts 2 weeks where you end up sleeping in a shitty bed anyway. You spend that money on a mattress and you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud for 10 plus years 💤 💤 💕 Miss one holiday and you’re there! Also, get the biggest you can afford. We’ve got a superking and now a double feels tiny. I’m a huge advocate for a wonderful bed.

I went and lay on loads of mattresses in John Lewis, and got a pocket spring one with natural fibres that was about £750 sale price, in 2018 or'19, but I think about £1100 full price. I love it still.

Simba outlet on ebay.

They're mattresses people return within the 100 day period - perfect condition and fully recovered.

We have a king-size that only cost about £200, would have been about four times that from the main shop. It turned up rolled and packed, pristine, exactly like a new mattress.

Why anyone would return one is beyond me, it's the best mattress I've ever slept on. I used to love visiting a Premier Inn for the bed but since we got our Simba, PI beds feel like sleeping on bricks!
