Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

@LiquoriceAllsort2 bit school and work as a police officer are both formal settings. A hotel buffet is the equivalent of downstairs in your home with just the other residents of the building present. It's not going out on public, on the streets, or even going outdoors. Again not anywhere near an equivalent situation.

Apollonia1 · 06/11/2022 09:55

It's the lack of shower that I'd object to.
If they had had a shower and then put on lounge-wear that look like pyjamas, that's ok.
But rolling out of bed, without freshening up is horrible.

Same reason I hate going to hotel gyms first thing in the morning- full of smelly, unwashed bodies.

How on earth would you know if people in loungewear or day clothes had had a shower 😆. Not everyone showers in the morning anyway, I do but I prefer to do it after a greasy breakfast. Some people shower in the evening or don't even shower every day. Absolutely none of your business and they aren't sitting at your table so again. No affect on your life at all

CuriousCatfish · 06/11/2022 10:00

So many people saying it takes 2 minutes to throw some clothes on. I hope they have showered first.

Happyhappyeveryday · 06/11/2022 10:02

I’m all for people not worrying about what others think, but I also think there are certain standards of cleanliness and appropriate dress that we should all abide by. In the same way that I don’t think men going shirtless in a high street is appropriate, I don’t think pjs in public is appropriate either. Both show slovenliness and disregard for those around you (which isn’t the same as worrying about judgement.)

CuriousCatfish · 06/11/2022 10:02

I hope none on here never go camping. There are people wandering about in PJs and dressing gowns at all hours of the day.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2022 10:02

so you shower before going to the gym so you are all clean for getting sweaty and smelly...? Utter madness.

Twillow · 06/11/2022 10:03

I think it's odious and a decline in standards. I have this discussion with my YA children re people in the supermarket in dressing gowns and slippers and they say things like they're 'not hurting anyone' and 'just living their lives'. I suppose there are many more offensive things people could do but I think it generally shows a lack of class (oh my god I can't even believe the things I'm coming out with on here. I'll be voting Tory next...)

@WombatChocolate You've expressed it so well here! This almost deliberately. but undeniably utterly selfish, inconsiderate behaviour because of 'my rights'. And @PurplePixies you're talking utter rot - not being a selfish oh-look-at-me-I-don't-even care twat does not mean blind rule following and WombatChocolate never said she was afraid to stand out. If wearing PJs in public is the hill you want to die on I think you've got more to be worried about than Hitler.

I usually give my armpits a swoosh and put some deodorant on if I’m going to the gym but I wouldn’t bother taking a whole shower until after my work out.

Again, not everyone showers in the morning. I do but I have friends that prefer to have one at night and get in to bed clean. Neither is right or wrong

I was being sarcastic. The throw some clothes on lot are all about people not showering because they are wearing PJs. I was wondering if they showered before they threw on their clothes.

Badnewsoracle · 06/11/2022 10:49

I couldn't get worked up over this.

A hotel buffet is in no way shape or form the equivalent of being downstairs in your home. Other residents are not your family or friends. You are going out in public.

I just shows a complete lack of self respect and respect for others and makes people look like trash that have just been dragged up without any standards. No one over the age of 5 should be going to breakfast in a hotel in pyjamas. Sorry, not sorry.

CuriousCatfish · 06/11/2022 11:01

I think the name calling on this thread is far far worse than someone eating their egg and bacon in their PJs.

PurplePixies · 06/11/2022 11:24

Interesting that my post got deleted essentially for pointing out that people blindly following social norms and pointing the finger at those who don't follow convention, is what allows the masses to be happily led by a murderous Dictator. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree.

It's a far closer equivalent than a policeman attending work in his pyjamas 😆

Agreed. All the genocides that have happened throughout history could have been prevented if only more people had gone to the hotel buffet in their pyjamas.

We are not talking about camping though are we ? God I hate it when people make such stupid comparisons

But what if the hotel is your temporary home? People in al kinds of situations are housed in travelodges and premier inns. By the NHS when discharged from hospital, by the council, by insurance companies when the people have lost their home due to flood or fire. It’s hard. Really hard. You all seem to be assuming that this family are purposely staying in this hotel for leisure reasons.

That'll be because it was totally inappropriate.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2022 11:40

Personally not for me but I’ve seen lots of children in all sorts of hotels in pyjamas. Seems sensible actually, especially for little ones who get messy. No skin off my nose.

SocksAndTheCity · 06/11/2022 11:40

So it's possible to determine not only a total strangers 'standards' (whatever that means) but also their upbringing based essentially on within which department of a shop the t-shirt and pair of gathered waist trousers they are wearing were purchased?

I have a standard, and that's trying not to behave like a supercilious, judgemental cunt who looks down their nose at others for no reason. It's worked fine for me for fifty years.

LolaSmiles · 06/11/2022 11:43

I would imagine your post got deleted for drawing a horrible comparison between responses about social conventions in light hearted thread about what to wear for breakfast in a hotel and the Nazi genocide.

Social convention says you don't blast music in your garden, don't sit with your engine running for ages outside a school. Arguing that people following such conventions is why Hitler got into power and millions were murdered is disgusting.

There's nothing 'interesting' in the deletion at all.
