hi there we are vegetarians - our friends are coming for a few days does anyone think I should ask them not to bring meat, or should I not say anything and just hope that they realise we don't want meat in the house?

I'm a bit generally gobsmacked at asking people to bring food without telling them that you've got some sort of food ishoos. Because generally these days if you invite people for a meal it's the done thing to ask (and has always been the sensible thing) - 'is there anything you can't eat or don't like to eat?' And that's the point to mention that the hosts have some things that they can't or won't eat. ('please don't bring anything with nuts, someone has a serious nut allergy'/we don't eat anything Jamie Oliver hasn't personally shat out in this house so please don't bring any economy fish fingers)
