I used to really like them. I know the lead singer had a reputation of being a bit, ahem, pleased with himself but I still thought they were great.

I loved the song about the girl with "the golden touch" and it brings back great memories from a great time in my life.

Their new song has been released and I only stumbled across it by chance, I really like it.

I saw them live and they were absolutely brilliant! Thanks for the heads up, I'll listen,

All my life
watching America

I met them once in Newark Airport, they were on my plane. We had a chat about their gig the week before where I went to see the Manics. They were obsessed with knowing if my OH liked them or not. He wasn't even with me.

They were constantly on at one of the air hostesses for the full flight, wouldn't leave her alone. Not impressed.

Yeah, I did hear about some twatty behaviour. Maybe they have matured a bit in the intervening years?

I mean 15 odd years of obscurity, in the musical wilderness ought to deliver a healthy dose of realism and humility but maybe 🤔 not?

Interesting. 3 of their songs are in my top song list: Goldentouch, somewhere else, America.

But Borrell remains the only original band member now. Given his reputation hardly surprising.

Donaldwheresyourtrousers · 05/11/2022 11:46

I love Razorlight, I used to listen to America and In the morning all the time at university. Good times!

Mapletreelane · 05/11/2022 11:54

I think Up all Night was all I listened to in 2004, on my ipod shuffle (the original shuffle so no screen!) . I think the line up from that album is back together, was just listening to Andy Burrows on R5 this morning. Gosh reminds me of being engaged and wedding planning back then! Very nostalgic.

OneFootintheRave · 05/11/2022 11:59

I'm listening to a playlist now. Any twattery aside, he's a very talented songwriter. I will definitely look out for the new "rockumentary" sound like it has a few David Brent/Spinal Tap moments.

I saw them support the Kaiser Chiefs at the O2 2 years ago and was really pleased as have always loved them. It was such a fab concert

love Karma Police

ChessieFL · 05/11/2022 12:26

Karma Police was Radiohead @Zippea !

ChessieFL · 05/11/2022 12:32

Thanks for this OP, I hadn’t heard the new song yet and I agree it’s great! I saw they live a couple of times a while back and they were really good.

I also love that it was a couple of members of Razorlight that did the soundtrack to The Snowman and The Snowdog!

Course it was! 🤣
Having a moment….

whatsdiswhatsdat · 05/11/2022 13:34

The real hidden talent in that band was Andy Burrows.

Top drummer for sure.

We saw them support the Manics and they were dire.

PurpleButterflyWings · 05/11/2022 14:09

Never heard of them.

Mayorquimby2 · 05/11/2022 14:11

The epitome of indie landfill.

Golden touch was a banger though.

Snow Patrol and The Hoosiers are still going.

Arcadia · 05/11/2022 14:16

I quite liked them, but America and that whole album slightly ruined for me by being an album I picked to listen to whilst giving birth, which was planned to be a lovely chilled labour (if such a thing exists!) but turned into a 28 hour horror show! So can't really listen to it now 😩

whatsdiswhatsdat · 05/11/2022 14:32

@OneFootintheRave

Utterly wasted as the drummer in that mediocre band. He's a stellar talent in his own right. Seen him live twice. His albums are fantastic.

BedTaker · 05/11/2022 14:34

The lead singer is universally thought of as a total cunt isn't he?

I remember even a Radio 1 DJ alluding to it once.

SavoirFlair · 05/11/2022 14:39

Failed Libertine writes decades of landfill garage rock, with occasionally catchy tunes that grab the attention of folk who have a Peloton, a Laithwaites delivery every week, and a fluffy ‘poo, and think they’re living life as we all should.

Ghastly, middling music for a commensurate audience.

there are thousands of exciting bands and great new things happening in music especially in hip hop in the US, and yet we’re doomed at festivals to have these characters crop up again because it makes middle aged mums remember the daring days of taking the tube to Shoreditch or Dalston

BadAmbassador · 05/11/2022 14:40

Andy Burrows did a collaboration with Tom Smith of Editors and they released a couple of albums, one being a Christmassy one! I really liked it (helps that I met them a couple of times while they were promoting it 😂). Oh and I won a Smith & Burrows mug in a raffle at one of their gigs 😂
