To think this woman was weird on the plane?

ChicagoNoie · 05/11/2022 08:26

Long haul back to London, overhead bin above me was full so I put it in the one opposite.

Woman behind me seemingly annoyed by this as she said challengingly that she wanted to put her bag in there. Then made me move my bag to the centre of the bin with a patronising “is that ok?” And put her bag in …

Then walked off to sit in her seat 4 rows away from the overhead bin. So no more entitled to use it than I was.

Aibu to think this is just odd, like she could have just placed her bag in the centre and left me alone?

Even when we left and she walked by down to get her bag she was smiling at me smugly.

She was a rude bully.

Don’t be ridiculous. Maybe the OPs bag took up more space than necessary? Maybe the other woman was stressed out about flying? Maybe she just wanted her bag put in that bin because it was her favourite number!!!
However, what she wasn’t was a bully. Pathetic response

By all means disagree but what on earth prompted such a rude response.

Did you not get any sugar on your cornflakes this morning?

threatmatrix · 06/11/2022 17:44

I would have told her to mind her business.

ALongHardWinter · 06/11/2022 18:50

A fine example of over-entitlement. On her part,I mean, not yours!

ProFannyTea · 06/11/2022 18:55

The only thing you really did wrong was not pooing in her hand luggage then smiling at HER smugly as she slung it around her shoulder and strutted off.

Sooziewoozie · 06/11/2022 18:55

She is an idiot and you were lovely not to make an issue of her selfish stupidity. Like I always say ‘pick your battles’. Some things/people are just not worth the hassle xx

Kjpt140v · 06/11/2022 20:29

But you didn't say anything.

Solonge · 06/11/2022 22:55

I am always amazed at the number of entitled twats on planes. Afraid if she had tried to get me to move the bag....I would have pretended to not understand what she was saying.

Dragonella · 07/11/2022 07:10

Why make excuses for this lady. She acted like she was entitled. Bully.

Harrcla · 07/11/2022 08:04

Sometimes people do things you just dont understand.

Withmayo · 07/11/2022 08:44

So many people seem to have no idea how to behave on a plane these days. I fly a lot and see lots of weird things with the baggage (like you describe), pushing and shoving, ignoring polite requests from air crew, people up and down to the loos constantly. I find it really frustrating.

rookiemere · 07/11/2022 09:01

@Withmayo you get annoyed by people going to the toilet too often ( in your opinion) ?
What on earth has it got to do with you ? I have a weak bladder and tend to go every couple of hours - plus I hate sitting still for so long - I try where possible to get an aisle seat, but other than that I didn't expect other passengers to be toilet monitors.

PasstheginImgoingin · 07/11/2022 11:07

YANBU and can be glad she wasn't sitting next to you or going home with you! Let her go, she's not your problem. The plane was 99 % full of people who were not behaving like she did.

ChicagoNoie · 05/11/2022 10:31

Well I am absolutely stunning so .. no I’m just normal looking?

I think she was the jealous type though as I saw her again queuing up for customs and we would be stood next to each other (different rows) at certain points when the queue moved -

She was with a friend and they were talking to two men (unsure if they were all together or just met) and then next time I was near her the friend and both men were talking and she was stood there sunglasses on looking pissed at her friend getting the attention from both men.

That is quite a vivid imagination you have there OP!

Well my that would have been a bit odd. As in you’d pretended not to speak English? Or that you were a sandwich short of a picnic?

Hardly. But this is MN so whatever fits your narrative.

So you don’t think am just a bit of a leap to say this person is “the jealous type” because whilst in a queue (not the most joyful of places) this woman didn’t look happy as her friend chatted to two men? 😂

She was just as likely thinking 'FFS don't encourage these annoying twerps, if they're sitting anywhere near us we'll never be rid of them!'

Funny how random male attention is automatically seen as something to be envied. Why for hell's sake would anyone be 'jealous' of a casual conversation?

On another note, I do love a good plane thread ...

No I think the topic was is the woman jealous of the OP because of how she looks. So if the OP had said yes then you would have had an issue with this as well.

The entire thread is based on theories, the woman apparently has anxiety of flying based on nothing but her being rude. So any theory here could be a leap.

As I have my headset on so cant hear.....and wont hear!

riceuten · 07/11/2022 12:14

I had an utter moron who had boarded late take my hand luggage out of the overhead bin, put hers in and plonked mine on the floor - the overhead locker was full already. I challenged her and she said "WELL WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT IN THEN, EH?". By this time, the steward came over and I calmly explained what had happened whilst she screeched that I had "put a bag over her seat and that this space was rightfully hers". Fortunately the bag fitted under her seat, but she glared at me for the rest of the journey and loudly complained that her bag had been put on the dirty floor "because of inconsiderate selfish people"

Diamondsareforever123 · 07/11/2022 13:41

She was being a bullying bitch. Probably picked up that you were nervous and on your own. You behaved well. I'd have started a barney .... But I do that when I'm nervous! Once at Gatwick airport a steward was being very rude to me. I gave her a mouthful and she said 'Do you want to come outside and finish this?'. We weren't on the plane I hasten to add! I just burst out laughing..... I mean I was 55 and 5 foot nothing! Some people are vile.

You sound like the kind of woman who gets their picture in the Sun for getting thrown off a flight for biting an attendant.

Diamondsareforever123 · 07/11/2022 14:35

I actually DID have my picture in the Sun once, many moons ago.

I think it was a power trip which may be a general thing she tries with everyone or more targeted at other women/'prettier' women/people she is prejudiced against etc. Unfortunately you'll never really know.

I used to live in America, went on a day trip to Baltimore. Me and my friend are different ethnicities but both POC, waiting to get served in a coffee shop and an older well-dressed southern white women stepped in front of me and ordered before giving me a disdainful sideways look.

I was about 24 at the time but looked about 17 (always used to get automatic child fares on travel and ID'd etc) so she probably expected me just to let it go. I instead spoke up assertively to the barista and told her this woman had blatantly skipped us then went ahead and made my order.

The (white) barista had seen what had happened so she did serve us first and also apologised, then she added ' sorry, that's just the way things are like here'. The barista's comment and her very apologetic and embarrassed tone noq makes me think it was a racial thing she was referring to when she said' that's the ways things are'. I didn't think of all this at the time but years later after receiving the same kind of look from certain demographics while on my travels in southern america, it all clicked what the barista meant.

Agree.

It’s not a “jealousy thing”

It’s a power trip. 100%, she would not have done this to a man wearing a suit.
