To think this woman was weird on the plane?

ChicagoNoie · 05/11/2022 08:26

Long haul back to London, overhead bin above me was full so I put it in the one opposite.

Woman behind me seemingly annoyed by this as she said challengingly that she wanted to put her bag in there. Then made me move my bag to the centre of the bin with a patronising “is that ok?” And put her bag in …

Then walked off to sit in her seat 4 rows away from the overhead bin. So no more entitled to use it than I was.

Aibu to think this is just odd, like she could have just placed her bag in the centre and left me alone?

Even when we left and she walked by down to get her bag she was smiling at me smugly.

I feel like “being held at hun point” should be a phrase.

I agree. Love it.

She just sound like a very annoying and selfish woman. Some people are just used to getting their way for whatever reason. Or perhaps it’s the opposite, and somehow the world has taught her she had to fight for everything. You never know why people are like they are, but yes she behaved weirdly and rudely. Smirking alway annoying but best to ignore!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/11/2022 10:42

Btw I love any kind of plane based thread so was glad you posted this!

MoirasSaggyBundles · 05/11/2022 10:43

Held at hun point: when your new friend from the school playground invites you over for coffee, then suggests you engage in some massively inconvenient child care/lift giving arrangement that you know will end in you wanting to murder her.

It’s what being badgered to join some pyramid scheme should be called.

I love “held at hun point”. I think it should mean being manipulated by someone who’s being passive aggressively nice to you.

Spot on.

Well I am absolutely stunning so .. no I’m just normal looking?

I think she was the jealous type though as I saw her again queuing up for customs and we would be stood next to each other (different rows) at certain points when the queue moved -

She was with a friend and they were talking to two men (unsure if they were all together or just met) and then next time I was near her the friend and both men were talking and she was stood there sunglasses on looking pissed at her friend getting the attention from both men.

You read all of that from just looking over at someone in a queue opposite? You are now sounding a bit deranged.

I was with you before this and think she was unreasonable for asking you to move your bag. Personally I wouldn't have moved it and my look alone would tell her not to fuck with me.

YouOKHun · 05/11/2022 10:50

In fact anyone here not familiar with the world of MLMs should search #antiMLM for examples of many people being held at Hun point daily.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 05/11/2022 10:50

So a charitable interpretation of OP's woman is that, being 4 rows back from her hand luggage, having it on the end of the bin made it slightly easier for her to grab at the end of the flight, thus facilitating her exit of the plane to the rear; and/or grab it to pack up her stuff prior to disembarking, rather than having to wait until everyone started moving to access it. Just a possibility. But there was no need for the PA behaviour towards OP.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 05/11/2022 10:51

Planes and airports make people crazy.

It's certainly not a great idea to be seated ahead of your bags but it's also vanishingly rare to exit Long Haul flights from the rear doors.

But whatever the reason I agree there's no obvious need for the reported behaviour

Let me guess - you were much prettier than she was?

Some women are insanely jealous of other women who are more attractive than them and try and start a confrontation over anything.

My friend can’t even go out to a nightclub or pub as she has been physically attacked at least 3 times simply because she’s attractive. She barely leaves the house now.

It happens less now I’m older and women are more mature but I can always tell now when a women is jealous because they try and push you into an argument.
I just smile and act extra nice.

Stop with this nonsense. I'm guessing when you were a little girl and other girls were being mean that you were told it's because you're pretty? What would you have told OP if it was a man that did it? He probably fancied you? There are twats in the World and they choose to be twats with everyone. They don't wander around on a plane looking for pretty women to piss off. They just get enjoyment pissing everyone off that is around them.

Dalekjastninerels · 05/11/2022 11:02

She sounds insane OP!

Pity the people who may live with her; if she is a bitch in public consider how she must act in private!

Stephy1886 · 05/11/2022 11:03

Always weird behaviour in airports / planes

from the people who queue before a gate is even open, to the folk who rip off their seatbelt & stand up while the plane is still taxing.

same embarrassing behaviour

MadelineUsher · 05/11/2022 11:05

Why is it nonsense, if it happens?

So you’re saying I have a mental illness because I said she might have been jealous of her friend getting attention … ok hun. I don’t care if you agreed with any part of what I’ve said but the level you’ve taken it to is bizarre beyond comprehension.

Doubtful but it’s just a theory someone put out there? Because only she knows why she was the way she was.

But I don’t think it’s that deep to sound angry over ..

It got to a point where it became an obsession with you to be watching and reading her behaviour in a queue and making an assumption that she is jealous of her friend. That does sound deranged yes.

Not angry at all but again what would have been said if it was a man and not a woman that did this. Women behave like this towards other women because we are jealous of their prettiness I still think that is nonsense.

Some women are threatened and angered by prettier or younger women.

An obsession? Oh puh-lease. She was stood right next to me or just a bit in front so in direct eye sight at certain points.

I was bored and tired after a long flight in a queue, phone dead and was solo and people watching - I could have stared at the floor for 40 minutes if you’d have preferred? I noticed loads of other things other people were doing but didn’t include.

I also made a note that I loved these trainers a guy was wearing and to look on Google for them. Am I obsessed with him now too?

Good Lord the jump some people make on here.

Toastandavocado · 05/11/2022 11:21

Exactly this 😂. This has happened to me a few times recently and this phrase is absolutely perfect for such a situation.

Op you weren’t being unreasonable. That woman was being a twat. Things like your situation also go over and over in my mind, I think mostly because you can’t understand why on earth anyone would act like that in the first place!

Actually I can see where OP is coming from… you can be in airports and I’ve had people eg women, look strangely at me, especially if they have X designer handbag, designer sunglasses etc.

I’ve grown out of posing in designer gear years ago though I might use the odd designer bag once or twice!

Queuing early is a bit of a legacy from the days of free seating and nowadays people trying to bag locker space, so there is a bit of logic behind it...though it looks odd when it's done so far ahead the inbound aircraft hasn't even left he airport at the far end yet...

OTOH standing up whilst taxying really is potentially dangerous - some airlines don't even allow the cabin crew to unbuckle and get up until the aircraft is almost parked (the "doors....." call).
