Aldi or Lidl

It's not an AIBU, I know 😚

It's my day off, the weather is fine and I need to pop out for a few bits. I need you to tell me whether to go to Aldi or Lidl. They're an equal distance to walk to.

I'm drinking tea in a fog of indecision. Please help me 🙏

Aldi this time and Lidl next time. Compare and contrast.

Darbs76 · 03/11/2022 10:54

Aldi. Went with my mum yesterday whilst visiting and some nice food in there I’d like to try. My God-daughter was delighted with the pizza I got her apparently, Hawaiian frozen. It looked good

SweetSenorita · 03/11/2022 10:57

Marvellous. Thank you. Let's do Aldi today. They're both good. I just couldn't decide which route I fancied walking 😚

Aldi, Lidl always seems to be empty recently, have tried different ones but really low stock levels in all.

CraigDavid · 03/11/2022 10:57

Aldi! They have all their delicious Xmas stuff - I bought some of their florentines this morning 😋

SpinningFloppa · 03/11/2022 11:05

I don’t really shop in either but Aldi seems to be the better of the two

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/11/2022 11:07

Aldi definitely. We tried Lidl for a change last week. It wasn’t a pleasant experience.

So why post then ? How would you know if you don't shop in either?

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 03/11/2022 11:09

Aldi is better… lidl is always a bit weird! Their pretzels are nice though

girlmom21 · 03/11/2022 11:10

Aldi food is better but Lidl has self service checkouts

xogossipgirlxo · 03/11/2022 11:11

Shelves in my lidl are quite empty. I'd go to Aldi.

Startuplife · 03/11/2022 11:14

I am a devout Aldi shopper but I’ve noticed prices increasing a little too much recently. The Lidl near our old house was a bit grotty but we’ve recently moved so I popped in yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised.
I’m going to do our food shop there this weekend and give it a chance.

I was in Lidl yesterday and overheard the staff talking about how to rearrange the shelves so they don't look empty

BarbaraofSeville · 03/11/2022 11:15

Lidl has Pastels de Nata on the bakery counter and sells Mackies crisps. That swings it for me.

AllThatAndMore · 03/11/2022 11:16

Aldi is better usually BUT Lidl has the best bakery !!!

I use both. Can't say one is better other than Lidl is more spacious.
Lidl have a loyalty app but you'd have to buy all your shopping there to benefit.
Aldi have a bigger range of fresh food.
Lidl have decent ice cream.
Both good for fruit and veg.
No empty shelves near me.

Bit hypocritical considering you've posted without answering the question.

@SpinningFloppa

Not pouncing but merely wondering why post when you have nothing to offer

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 03/11/2022 11:23

Oh and I would say Aldi hands down. The Lidl nearest to where I live is like a jumble sale and a bit grubby looking especially the floors

SweetSenorita · 03/11/2022 11:24

Thanks, everyone 😘

I'll head for Aldi today and try Lidl next time. Maybe the answer is to use both and get the best of both worlds 😍

Same goes for you! You was too busy starting on me that you didn’t answer it yourself idiot.

Don't get overinvested dear. It's only a thread

Definitely do that. I find it strange how so many people say they only use one supermarket or might talk about 'switching to Aldi' as if it has to be all or nothing. Or that you have to get all your groceries from one supermarket once a week, except for a small top up shop for milk and fruit.

We have Asda, Morrisons, M&S and Aldi pretty much the same distance away, and on my journey back from work I also can drive past Tesco or Lidl or Waitrose and Sainsburys with a small diversion so I just rotate round depending on which one I feel like going to or what we need and is cheapest for what we like so we use them all in varying frequencies and can go weeks without visiting most of them but are likely to go to one of them every 4 or 5 days, mostly alternating between Aldi and M&S.

Wow... No point going in this week then 🤐Discount coupons aren't great anyway, so even their app became useless.
